Thousands of years into the future, humanity has recovered from the first Apocalypse. Ancient gods walk among them again, and half of the year has now been deemed the Training Season. During these six months, the gods sustain society and humanity trains as soldiers. This year, however, the gods have opened up a new type of training: the Seven Trials, the deadliest competition in history.

Merit has no interest in participating in the Trials, but when she's entered against her will, she finds herself struggling to survive. And the more she fights, the more she loses. Merit harbors dark secrets, however, and if she's not careful, those may just be her undoing.
