The Scribe

Description

A young scribe's life of working in the family business is changed drastically when the mage's tower discovers his gifts. Gifts that the scribe didn't even realize he had.

This particular book has a definite end point and the story is complete. (I just have to edit and post the rest of it.)

Note: This is my first attempt at publishing. Learned a lot getting things down on paper and then realized I had not learned nearly enough when I began a round of editing. Found more holes than swiss cheese. Hopefully I got it closer to brie after the editing. Little rough around the edges, but with a creamy center. The cheese metaphor only stretches so far.

Like the title says it's a great  story. a bit short because it seems like it's wrapping up but based on the chapters that are out it's definitely worth the read. don't wanna spoil anything so I'll leave It at that. Please ignore the spoiler

Absolutely gripping! The world-building is rich and immersive, pulling you in from page one. The character are unique and are quite dynamic. The unique magic system, reminiscent of The Magicians, is both clever and interesting. I already know this is going to be a favorite just from the quality of the written, I couldn’t put it down.

My favorite type of novel, mages that actually study magic not some system bs, the story was great. the only thing that I find "bad" is that is too short I want moreeee. Hope the author keep making more "short" novels like this but in the same universe, that will be cool. Take in account that this is the author first novel and is super good so just imagine his next works if he keep getting better.
ps: I had to delete the review and repost it bc for some reason the max I could give was 4.5

Just the review title should be enough but for the sake of 50 words review I must say this novel is going through wonders. Refreshing. Intriguing. Magical. Never expected from a scribe. Ditches every bad book you have read to bins..............Reviews must be at least 50 words long........come on. How long is 50 words.......................

A bloody amazing story. Captivating throughout! The MC is the real star of the show. Never have I seen a character so deserving of the title "Hero" (not in the stat sheet sense).
While I would have loved a bit more fluff the urgency of it all made the read all the more thrilling. Choices were not taken to extend the book, they were taken to finish the story.
There were many places where things were dealt with in a single sentence where I went "That could have been a whole chapter!". Nonetheless I am left satisfied.

This series is amazing so far.
The characters are vivid, the world-building is well done, and the magic system is intriguing. This story is also a proper edit of a previous work, so the quality is quite high. I read all 20 chapters in 1 day, each chapter is long and has no filler.
Please read this book if you can.

This is a great, self contained, good single book. Not a single grammatical or spelling mistake (that I noticed). Highly recommended.

Just as the introduction claims, the story started knowing where it would finish. Many moving parts carry it there, and you can reason a lot of it in advance. This is clearly intended, as are the reveals you don't see coming. This story is a wonderful example of good planning and well-maintained internal coherence.
It's another bright spark boy finding out he has magic and getting thrown into a national plot but with the world depth and grounding to not make you feel like it's something you already know. One thing that I have issue with is that enchanting seems to circumvent nearly all aspects of how affinities strongly direct what someone's magic can do, save for how only certain affinities are inherently capable of the precision it requires.
Spelling and grammar start getting a little bit loose over time but not below the standards I'm used to on this site. Easy reading nevertheless and would recommend.

I read everything that the author had published in one sitting (or lying down) as I was procrastinating going to sleep. It felt nostalgic to get so engrossed in the story that I couldn't stop myself as I more often did when I was younger.
It isn't perfect by any means, perhaps even a tad juvenile, but I personally enjoyed it a lot.
Does anyone else feel bad when they consume a book in a single sitting as if that somehow diminishes the authors hard work?

The characters are flat and don't behave like I would expect them to. Parents are too relaxed about their only child being taken. Protagonist is too relaxed about being seized from his parents. Neither does he seem upset or curious about the circumstances that lead to his forced abduction. It feels very contrived to get him to school. Could just start there and do a recap with his emotions having cooled since.
