- B.M SmithRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Where do I start? Firstly, this was a really fun read. It felt like I was watching a TV in my mind as I was reading.
STYLE/STORYLINE
The author does a good job, raising each scene to keep it interesting. It allowed me, as a reader, to become involved in the story and keep reading, hence the TV show. The author also does a really good job at raising the conflict as well, and the twists? They were writing so well that it was unexpected, especially with the way some characters were introduced.
I also like how they juggle humour into it to break up the tension. The storyline is quite crisp in the way that It's not boring. With the whole going to 'magic school' trope, it can at times drag, but with the tension and character twists it kept the trope from being a used idea to something quite unique.
CHARACTERS
I love them, they're all interesting to get attached to as the story goes on. And they're dynamics really blend together to create the perfect set of characters to carry the storyline e.g., Denovan's calmness, Ignis' coolness and Callista's strong but emotional dynamic.
GRAMMAR
It was actually really good, but I would the only improvements would just fixing some commas and some rare misuses of words. "your not a bad person" should me "you're" but they're quite rare and don't pull you away from the story. - Lazyreader26Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This stroy was nothing like I had expected. I had came here with hopes of seeing a general villaness heroine, but bang! what I saw blow my mind.
This story tricks you into thinking that mc personality is not developed but then all of a sudden she turns from a flower into fricking snake and its executed perfectly. That I can't hwlp but praise the author work.
When I stared reading this, I had thought the best thing is the good world building with a soft and fresh writing style.
But it's turn out to have even better characters than I had expected. The side cast is very good and distinct, their personality feels natural yet childish as their age. They make mistakes that can be forgiven as child mischievous nature or their own paranoia and fear of unknown.
Mc has a bland personality at the first look but I promise she did such a 180⁰ turn that my mouth was left open. Her personality and eccentric nature leave us left baffled and captivated by her very charm.
For romance lookers I can say you will get an early romance and at the very unexpected moments and I liked it personally very much.
The author has done a great job with the soft and slow world building dropping hints here and there.
Grammar:- There is no issue, the writing is pretty good with simpel sentences and easy to understand flow of work.
Conclusion:- I would heavily recommend it, this book is a hidden gem with many mystery, drama, romance, world building and full of magic with enchanting details. - Mad-SibylRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm a sucker for a magic-school and The Scions' Gambit most definitely fulfills that. Callista Alberts is a new student at the exclusive Lumin Academy. There, her classmates are all distinctly aristocrats - princesses, future dukes, children of the most influential members of the realm - while, Callista's background is oddly veiled. When she arrives, her peers are first fixated on her striking beauty and only then begin to question how it was she was accepted into the school. Without giving away any spoilers, it seems there is more to Callista than meets the eye.
Very quickly into starting her lessons, Callista is drawn to the handsome young duke, Ignis. She's direct with him from the start, openly admitting that she likes him, and initiating an uneasy relationship. Callista falls in with him and the rest of his set, who are immediately suspicious of her and her motives. They read more as frenemies from the outset. As the reader, I can't really blame them, I too was never sure of Callista's motives.
As for the plot, while there is a central storyline, a number of the chapters are broken out into shorter episodic arcs - the first being 'Can't Fool A Blind Man?'. This was something I hadn't initially expected, but ended up really enjoying. I think it works especially well given the serialized format. - EllembriRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This story has a very interesting concept and well thought out character arcs. It follows a beautiful young witch by the name of Callista and her trials at the Lumin Academy, a prestigious magic school within the Empire in which she lives. Her latent magical abilities are proven on day one, but are coupled closely with her ignorance of urban customs as she has lead an isolated life up until now.
We meet a colorful cast of royals also attending the Academy that adds flavor, depth, and mystery to Callista's journey. While on the surface they seem like your average magic student, there are intrigues and suspicious mishaps that tend to happen when they are around.
Callista is searching for something here, but must navigate the "mean girls", dorm marms, and other mundane obstacles as well as the more dangerous ones that certain parties seem to have in store for her.
Some notes for the author:
I love your worldbuilding thus far. There is a richness to it that I feel you should elaborate more and include more throughout your story. I think this will give the reader a more immersive experience within your universe.
Your characters are well developed in the sense that I can tell that you know their mind and motivations. As a reader, I find myself wanting to know them almost as well as you. It might help to describe some of those motives as well as their actions. This might be kind of tricky to do in Third-Omni, but you might explore other ways to bring the reader closer to the character's state of mind. - macabre_heretic_Royal Road★★★★ 4.0yo, this story got me hooked faster than a kid seeing free wifi. we got four empires flexing their magic, money, and might, but our girl callista? she’s out here minding her business, vibing in the woods, until boom—academy acceptance letter. and just like that, she’s tossed into a world of posh-ass nobles, magical politics, and a student council that’s basically a reality show waiting to happen.
callista’s got that quiet badass energy, but the real spice? the side characters. we got ignis, the brooding mystery boy; ivan, the human disaster; and anastasia, who could glare a dude into therapy. the banter? chef’s kiss. the world-building? richer than opulette’s economy. the drama? bruh, it’s giving elite fantasy school but with actual stakes.
if you like magic, intrigue, and characters who actually have personality, this is your next binge. go read it before it blows up. 🚀 - D_whispersRoyal Road★★★ 2.5The concept has potential; however, it reads more like a manga script than a web novel. It lacks the descriptive elements typically found in books, making it feel flat without a visual medium to convey the missing pieces. While the idea is good, it would benefit from significant editing and polishing. As it stands, it is somewhat hard to read.
