Description

Transmigration isn’t always fun and games.

For bored office worker Oliver Marsden, being summoned to a land of fantasy is a dream come true. He can go on adventures, fight monsters, and become the greatest hero his new world has ever seen.

Unfortunately, the System has other ideas.

One cheap RTS knock-off later, he’s burdened with the crown of the continent’s poorest kingdom! Armed with kooky subordinates, strange Skills, and a stat sheet ripped from the wrong kindof game, Oliver must face war, poverty, treachery and corruption in his attempts to rebuild his new nation.

He'll have to learn to reconcile grand ideals with a harsh reality, and stare down the true cost of progress.

But can he become the King this country needs?

What to expect:

- A jaded but idealistic protagonist with a strategic mind

- A System that fuses RPG and 4X mechanics, complete with stats and blue boxes

- An expansive cast of varied and dynamic characters

- Tactical combat

- A HFY story containing elements of action, kingdom building, and a character-first approach

Whatnot toexpect:

- A harem. Yes, there are female characters. Yes, they are friendly with the protagonist. No, that does not make them a harem, no matter what certain reviews would have you believe.

- Any kind of murderhoboing

- An OP protagonist who is an instant expert and doesn't make mistakes.

Tbh just keeping a 5 stars because anything lower is considered trash, it's got problems with it.
The main character is not a fan of suffering and is reasonable enough at delegating though he has flaws which are rooted in his good qualities and there is learning to be done.
The system he has explains once hes already figured it out which avoids bloat and the standard system investigation.

Not going to lie, I've been lowkey craving a plot premise like this. 5 stars for encouragement and to let you know imma be eyeing this. Swear to god if you end up throwing a harem in this imma scream though, though that's more of a suggestion then anything. I'll still read it but look at all the females in it with scorn.

If I was isekai'd into this world with an RTS styled system, Hana would have my head almost immediately. But unlike me our hero Oliver is an RTS savant. But a begrudging one. He has always dreamed of escaping to another world to be a hero, fighting in the thick of things, risking his life and getting all the glory. Instead, he is given responsibilities, way more than he ever had at home--he finds a whole kingdom in desperate need of a king.
These early chapters are filled with Oliver wrestling with himself, trying to escape his new role while pretty quickly becoming invested in the people and their troubles, despite all his misgivings of being a king.
This internal battle is extremely compelling and alongside the characters and slowly learning more about the world and the RTS system, the story has captured me completely.
Style: The prose is fantastic, it puts you totally into Oliver's thoughts and his sense of humor is really just second to none. There are also some incredible descriptions and analogies that the author weaves in and sprinkles so casually into the narrative. Such as this line: "I added enough gravel to my tone to pave a driveway" Like, dude, how awesome is that??
Story: Most my thoughts were covered in the opening, it is an expertly put together plot, where all aspects of the story are weaved together into an addicting whole.
Grammar: I'm not the best at spotting grammar issues, but I know enough to know that this story has been cleaned up to a pristine condition. I did not see a single mistake.
Character: The characters are FANTASTIC. Oliver of course is the stand out star, his voice and humor is what ties everything together. But the others are equally as great. They all seem to have a lot more going on than what they show on the surface. There is a big world history that Oliver doesn't have knowledge of and also his friends own personal history. But it seems to me that those two points won't be mutually exclusive... I can not wait to see more of t

So I’m turning my prior review into an advanced review on account of that, not only does it deserve a proper breakdown between the pros and cons, but also to draw attention to points I feel have been skimmed over. I’m gonna go by the four categories, starting with:
Style: this is the writing of an author who’s had boots on the ground in reading and writing basically from out of the womb. It borders carefully between using colorful similes and character study while also being incredibly minimalistic to the point of aggravation, personally. It’s the sort of writing that tells you it’s here to do a job, do good with the job, and get to go home after the job feeling good about what it accomplished. Now, this is affected by both the fact that we’re tagging along with our MC, an unreliable narrator, and also the fact that this book’s top promise is to deliver content DAILY. With enough time, this has the potential to delve into so much more than it already has going on for it, but because of WHAT it is and HOW it’s told, you get this. I’d say what’s been delivered under those circumstances is pretty great. So I’m giving it a 4.5 in both understanding the reality of the work despite my grievance of craving more detail in a tale overflowing with it being told in short-form.
Story: now, regarding our premise, this story does a LOT of things outside of the norm in both LitRPG and Kingdom-Building RPG genres. And that’s not a bad thing! It’s a bold integration of both that I think deserves celebrating. The System performs as an interesting mechanic that turns RPG-questing into kingdom-building and somehow it just works. And mind, I fully admit that I DID NOT HAVE experience with either genres before reading this. But I’ve since lightly dabbled into both and while every take has its unique qualities and approach, not one so far has done what I’ve seen here. You also have fast pacing in a story that gives new material every day, which is impressive. Where it lacks for me has to

Premise 5/5: Love the kingdom building/ dungeon core genre as a whole, with this work going all in on it.
Characters 3/5: Got some decent development in some side characters, however such a idealist MC leaves him overshadowed by other characters. This is contentious as he is getting the most development by far and yet it seems the rest of the party are carrying him until he can stand on his own two feet. Would like to see him turn realist in his policies as he cannot afford to be idealistic without plot armor.
Plot 3/5: Its ok. Nothing other than survive for now.
World 3/5: Will for sure expand and develop as the story goes on.
Verdict 4/5: Excited, yet worried. Wait and see

Really well written, no noticeable granmar mistakes, and I like the characters and their interactions a lot.
My only complaint would be that the pacing could be slowed down a bit.  If it is a kingdom building story then things take time.  You could always use the explanation of magic but it also looks like not everyone has magic which makes that a hard sell.  Perhaps setting up a few projects and some machinations or background deals then doing a bit of time skip would be better, but I'm unsure. Keep up the great work, this is one to follow!

The idea of having your story play out more like an RTS, rather then a typical for most isekai adventures RPG is an interesting one. At least that's what the author claims is attempted here.
It can be done well and make for an amazing story; even when few novels try it.
Unfortunately it just doesn't seem to work here. Or at least I can't see it; this seems more like it wants to be both, but it is doing bad job of mixing it up.
The story seems more like the mc was transported to some fantasy, harem, date-sim graphic novel. With a lot love interests showing up around with their problems for mc to solve and earn points. Even if he decides to go friendship route on his playthrought.
The characters are also a weaker aspect of this novel. Due to time passage being somewhat vague the relationships between characters and some of their behaviours look odd; I sometimes can't tell what is going on in their heads even while having part of chapter as their pov. Some things just seem forced, others like we've missed a chunk of the story.
Together with author seemingly unsure of how to deal with some more militaristic aspects of the kingdom at war; after mentioning mages on the battlefield, on both sides, to have them do nothing the whole time while one of the mains solo slaughters the enemy commanders and vanguard. Until another one of the king's women can cast a huge spell, that ends the battle with 0 loss for our mc... Maybe it's based on a turn based game? As when firebals start flying i would expect more chaos.
Even darker aspects, like having certain character and his family die felt cheap, and put there into the story just to trigger the 'depresion and being comforted by love interest' chapter for our mc. As a reader likely wont feel much from those deaths, we knew nothing about the family prior to their demise, and just met the man himself a bit earlier; learning he is either a hopeless idealist willing to risk his familys life for the cause, or an idiot.
    Also for whatever

It's a nice story, easy to read too. The pace is eyebrow raising though: the MC gets transmigrated and recovers from his shock because he can now live his dream of being a summoned Hero. Or not. He has to be King instead. He gets over the loss of his dream surprisingly fast and into the King thing even faster. He becomes fast friends/family with his summoners and whoever he recruits, barely knowing their backgrounds or having shared anything other than a talk. His ideas and problem solving are also implemented fast.
The pace is saved because the author manages to remind us of his discarded dream every so often and since the recurring issue of finding money still keeps it somewhat credible. I hope the author can either slow things down a bit or at least keep walking this fine line without shifting to the too much too fast-lane because then the credibility will really fly out the window.
What might help is adding walkabouts through Larm to the story where Oliver will be faced with small troubles or scenes that show his policy is working. The scene where the architect was found was a good one, but we were led to believe one sing and a speech solved it all. That's impossible. Why not write a scene where something happens that shows that things aren't alright yet, but getting better?
Good luck! I hope to read more fun chapters 😃

'- A jaded but idealistic protagonist with a strategic mind' : he, without a doubt, is no strategic mind.
'- A System that fuses RPG and 4X mechanics, complete with stats and blue boxes' : fancy words, no clue what they mean.
'- An expansive cast of varied and dynamic characters' : the only variation i took notice of is in their physical appearances.
'- Tactical combat' : pretty much inexistant.
'- Focus on character interaction and the human element of kingdom building, mixed with action and in-depth worldbuilding' : to fix a broken kingdom with a food crysis, he immediatly spent most of the kingdom's money on a glorified singing hall.
It is a kingdom building book, or so i was told, and I don't even remember what's the kingdom's or it's dukedoms names are after 30 chapters (except for the antagonising duchy).
Characters are meh at best. Every single one of them fails to leave any deep impressions whatsoever.
I have nothing to say about grammar, as it is not my field of expetise.

It's okay story if you're looking for generic "I isekaid in different world and became king" anime with all goods and bads from that: funny cliché moments, classic "got three girls by chapter two" trope, random big brain strategist fall in his arms after "inspirational" speech – if you read few novels in this style, you read them all.
So, if you're looking for teenage popcorn – it's for you. If you're looking for realistic kingdom building with the System – it's not.
