Description
Book 1: CompletedOn the island of Dromo, faith is law. The Valval Priesthood rules not through armies, but through a power that seeps into every breath, every thought: a power called the Light. To doubt it is to vanish. Aros, a former revolutionary, knows this better than anyone. When he finds a young girl named Gemma, a child who can hear the same divine frequency that the Priesthood wields, he realizes she may be the key to understanding the true nature of their godlike power. But Gemma is no savior. Her gift burns her from within, and the Light seems to whisper her name. As they flee through the shadowed alleys of Dromo and into the arms of the rebel order known as the Knights of Light, Aros must confront what he once believed unshakable: that resistance can exist without faith, and that power disguised as holiness can corrupt even those who fight it.

- packetMagiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story feels like the calm before a massive storm, the setup for a world that’s about to explode. The writing blends grit and poetry with a heavy, immersive atmosphere and characters who actually feel lived in. The tone is dark but never edgy for the sake of it; it’s thoughtful, filled with mood and small human moments that linger long after reading. The side characters aren’t just background figures either, everyone, from the scarred soldier to the rebel scout, feels important and adds real weight to the journey. It’s clear the author is building toward something big, and even in these early arcs, the world already feels huge, alive, and ready to erupt into something greater.
Aros and Gemma carry that energy at the center. Aros is a worn-out ex-hero who’s seen too much and now just wants to keep the kid alive, while Gemma is young, curious, and clearly tied to something far beyond her control. Their bond feels raw and believable, two people clinging to a bit of humanity as everything around them falls apart. You can tell their story is only beginning, and whatever’s coming next is going to hit hard. - DiegoGonzalezRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Quiet Heresy surprised me in the best way. It’s not your usual fantasy with loud magic and flashy battles, this one builds its power slowly, through atmosphere, silence, and faith twisted into control. The story takes place on the island of Dromo, where religion isn’t just belief, it’s law. And if you doubt it, you vanish.
We follow Aros, a burned-out revolutionary, and Gemma, a strange girl who can literally hear the divine “Light” that the Priesthood uses to rule. Their relationship is complicated and fragile, and watching them move through this world full of whispers and fear is honestly gripping.
The writing is beautiful without ever feeling overdone. The author has a great sense for tone, every line feels like it belongs exactly where it is. There’s this quiet sadness running underneath it all that makes the story hit harder than you expect.
If you like stories that take their time, that let the world unfold naturally, this is absolutely worth reading. It reminds me a bit of Malazan or The Book of the New Sun, but more focused and personal. Thoughtful, mysterious, and emotionally heavy. - CorruptibleRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Love the world building and how each character has its own, unique personality. Had a fun time reading and the reading is not boring, the settings/environment are well described, and the atmosphere is incredible. I'm looking forward to reading the new chapters and it's been a lovely adventure so far.
- NewbieArtistRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This novel delivers a haunting, beautifully written dark fantasy that blends lyrical prose with an atmosphere of religious dread. Across its first three chapters, it builds a world where faith is both weapon and prison. The dynamic between Aros and Gemma, anchors the story with emotional depth amid its oppressive theocracy.
It’s a powerful, immersive beginning and is full of promise. - RyanKewllisRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Quiet Heresy isn’t a story you rush through. It’s one of those novels that asks you to slow down a bit, to pay attention to what isn’t being said as much as to what is. At first it can feel quiet, almost restrained, but that restraint is very much the point. The tension builds slowly, through ideas, beliefs, and small moments that start to feel heavier the further you read.
The world feels oppressive in a subtle way. You’re not constantly told how things work, and sometimes you have to connect the dots yourself. That won’t be for everyone, but if you enjoy figuring things out as you go, it’s genuinely rewarding. There were moments where I had to pause and think back on earlier chapters, which I actually appreciated.
The characters aren’t heroic in the usual sense. They doubt, hesitate, and sometimes make choices that feel uncomfortable or incomplete. That made them feel real to me, even when I didn’t fully agree with them. The story is more interested in belief, fear, and quiet resistance than in big dramatic set pieces.
Overall, The Quiet Heresy feels thoughtful and deliberate. It’s not flashy, and it doesn’t try to please everyone, but if you’re into slower, idea-driven stories with atmosphere and moral weight, this one is worth sticking with. - SpeyvenarebleRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0What a great introduction, it fully of mystery and unique building, also the name of character, it also easy to understand and easy to imagine the scenario
. This has a beautiful building, also best dynamic. And also when we first introduce to this world, when everyone done reading the first chap I think they share the same view as me, it was mysterious, and leave people with questions that lead to desire to know more. - T.LecrenierRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So far, I’ve really really liked this story. It has such a heavy, atmospheric vibe that pulls you in before you even realize it. The world feels alive… creepy, beautiful, unsettling. Like every street and forest has a memory you’re stepping into. It’s moody in the best way, and honestly I didn’t expect to feel this immersed this fast.
But what got me the most were the characters. Aros is… complicated. The kind of man you watch carefully because you know he’s carrying way more than he lets on. And I really liked Gemma. She’s the heart of the whole thing. There’s something so fragile and mysterious about her, and you can just feel that she’s walking toward something huge and maybe terrifying.
Even the side characters don’t feel like extras. Broko, Diana, Candriela — they each have these raw, messy backstories that actually matter, and the author weaves them in so naturally you barely notice how much depth you’re getting until later. You can tell the author didn’t just throw people into the story to fill space.
The story mixes sorrow, tension, magic, and this quiet ache that sits under everything. The writing is just gorgeous without trying too hard.
This is dark fantasy with soul… the kind that’s more about wounds and choices than flashy magic tricks. It’s honestly really worth reading. - TheRagingElephantRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love how the writer captured the atmopshere, the tension between Aros and Gemma with the priesthood. Damn. It felt like he was building up a quite intensity, like a sense of anxiety in a good way. The pacing is good. Plus, the world building is so creative, Dromo, its so dark and gloomy, like it has many secrets that no one tells. And creepy too. I really hope that the writer continues more on the story.
- Twisted by choiceRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This opening chapter immediately drew me in with its haunting atmosphere and measured pacing. The imagery is vivid and cinematic the mist rolling over the square, the chanting Custodians, the crowd’s cold devotion it all feels heavy with ritual and meaning. You did an excellent job creating a sense of sacred dread; the execution scene plays out like a religious ceremony rather than an act of violence, which perfectly sets the tone for this world where faith and power are indistinguishable.
- Kyler.L.Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5The words and adjectives chosen to paint the scene are effective and refreshing. You did a good job making sure every scene felt alive when it was first introduced. The dialogue was also believable. A lot of stories have dialogue that doesn't seem to fit characters but I believed their reactions and words
Style and grammar are well executed, the author leads you to Aros and Gemma's situation off the start, and paints the image of a religious cult-like scenario and their next steps onwards.
Story score I gave 4.5 stars because it is well done up to where I read, but I think an early hint at a plot twist or something to make me speculate more and drive me to make theories of what could happen down the road. But thats the only reason I gave 4.5 stars
Character score I gave 4.5 stars as well. The dialogue was believable by all parties from Aros, Gemma, Talon, Broko, etc. The descriptions helped lead the way to imagine their looks and appearances, but I feel you could have described a bit more on their looks, hair color, the feeling someone gets by looking at them. Not that this wasn't done, but throughout reading, I kept changing the way I imagined the characters because I didn't have a more constructed image. However, if this was done on purpose to let the reader create their own ideas of how they would look, then I'd leave it as is.
Overall, I'd recommend this story to anyone who enjoys atmospheric story telling that adds a layer of mystique. I enjoyed my read.
