Description

Even in a world with witches, sorcerers, and alchemists, psychics are rare. There are normally fewer than a hundred in a century—which is why the Torr is so confounded when they get a letter from the headmaster of an English boarding school who claims that there are over a hundred psychics studying at his school. When all their investigations turn up nothing, they call on the head of all Torrs, Jack Noctis, the embodiment of death.

But Big Jacky doesn’t know what to do about it either, and he’s skeptical about his ability to do anything. He asks Darius Vasil, Conrad Bauer, and Emerra Cole to go in his stead. Between the vampire’s super-hearing, the wolfman’s amazing sense of smell, and Emerra’s legendary Eyes of the Sphinx, he’s hoping they’ll be able to find what everyone else has missed.

When they arrive, what they find is that the psychic powers are appearing more frequently and becoming more powerful every day. They need to figure out what’s going on before the situation spirals out of control.

Another gem! A story very much unlike the regular RR average.
I was hooked from the start to the very last page. Wit, emotions, suspense. Noctis series has it all and then some.
There is a third part available already to satisfy my growing hunger for more adventures.
Still - I would very much wish for more in-depth development of the main character's companions.

Amazing writing! The dialogues are first class and I read through all available books in a week because they kept me hooked real good! Also I did not know that I needed a "fantasy crime"  crossover genre but now I want more!

Obligatory fifty words extension to fill the word count.

An amazing second entry into the series
Like the first book it’s again a great magical mystery novel with a compelling plot and great characters.
We get to learn more about Emerras past and her abilities.
So yeah it’s great you should read it.
    sidenote:
I do wonder if it would’ve been better to publish all those books under the same fiction here on royalroad instead of putting them separate tho. Just for better visibility and reader retention.

The second installment in the Noctis series was, in my humble opinion, just as good as the first, if not better.
Not to lie, I missed those left back home in Big Jacky's mansion, but with a smaller(relatively, anyway) cast of characters, those relationships shined just that much brighter to me. The new characters were a great addition, and it was fun to see Emerra interacting with people who were more her age.
I will say the no-reason angst between her and another character that went on for like half the book was kind of annoying, but I understood the need for it from a doylist standpoint.
The plot of this book was not nearly as complicated(in hindisight) as the previous one, but it was one hell of a mystery, still. A lot of the revelations creeped the hells out of me, and once again I couldn't deceisively pinpoint a suspect without ignoring details.
Overall, great book that I'd bravely recommend to anyone who has read the first one, for they won't be disappointed.

I enjoyed the first appearance of Emerra Cole and her new wacky family in the first book. But, as most first books are, there is a lot of jargon to learn, characters to introduce, and reader-relationships to build with the characters.
This second book feels like the story has got its footing and is able to tell a tighter more concise story. The titular "Psychic Academy" gives us one solid thing to learn about while focusing on a smaller group of the main cast. This lets the mystery be able to unfold naturally and letting us focus on the character relationships. Speaking of character relations: The new characters introduced are all wonderful to have around. Emerra's new bestest buddies in particular.
If I did have a MAIN gripe  with this book, it is the relatively forced drama between Emerra and one of the other characters for what feels like half the book. I understand kind of why it's there, but it felt rather unnecessary. Could have done without it.
Either way, fantastic book in a great series that I'm of course eager to read more of!

I liked the first book in the series, Dead Eyes Open. It is a well written murder mystery -- not too long, not too complex but a very enjoyable read at a quality that I'd consider professional. And I did enjoy rkgoffs other story about the Marvelous Mr. Penn's engagement as well. So I was having relatively high hopes for this book and what I've read so far managed to exceed my hopes. The characters felt immediately familiar and so does the story telling. Like finally having time to catch up with a good friend and immediately getting back into the groove despite having walked different paths through life the last couple of years. I'm definitely looking forward to continue reading this book.

This is wonderful I love the dialogue it’s my favorite part but it’s as good as the first book of the series if not better I have nothing but praise for what I have read so far and I’m exited to read the next book in the series (filler to get word count)

A bit late to this book party.
    cheers.
    Really good.
I once heard some talk about how you know when something complex and creative like writing a book is done.
"When there is nothing left to take away. Then it's almost perfect"
Comparing your writing to some of the other litrpg one RR. I really enjoy your simplicity and minimalism, in comparison to some of the other works I have read here.
It's such a pleasure to read and simple to understand. I don't feel like I wasted any of my time. I felt immersed in the story and characters the whole way through. I was invested what was happening and with who. The characters motivations and actions are consistent and I understand them.
This really is a well constructed story. The other author who's works I enjoyed like this Etzoli and FortySixtyFour
I read all of etzoli content because it's also like yours. I am so happy I found more great stories to read. Thanks for posting on royal road.

I tried to like it. I really did. The authors first book was great, I loved it. The first noctis book was good. This feels bland. The returnung characters have already been established in book one and don't change much here, the new characters feel pretty thin and the plot doesn't move much either. It all feels like it's just treading water.
The situation isn't helped either by half of the cast effectively being a single character I will refer to as The Boys, because they only show up together and share the same plot function and personality. That being fawning over the main character while delivering light exposition and obnoxiously overwritten teenagerism. Really, these characters read like they are mainly based on vague recollections of what being a teenager used to be rather than any actual person. I tried skipping past their scenes but they make up about half of the book because, while the main characters are nominally there to investigate something, our main characters investigation consists mostly of hanging out with The Boys.
Which I guess brings me to the next point: there's not much investigating going on in this mystery book. Especially the main character seems to have been struck by a fatal case of Damsel syndrome where she can't do anything useful unless told to and won't notice anything important until it's spelled out to her.  On reflection, she wasn't the most proactive character in the previous book either but I guess it's more egregious here because at least she used to hang around more competent people in the last one and there were at least few scenes where she actually tried doing stuff by herself. Here, in 26 chapters of empty banter, we haven't even established what the investigation is actually about. If this was a murder mystery I'd still be waiting for the first corpse, so to speak.
Perhaps an example could help illustrate the problem and luckily the book delivers. There's been a side plot so minor and early established that I won't conside
