The Power Cycle [Vol 2: The Aether Sword]
Community Rating
Description
This is a Xianxia isekai story written by a non-Asian author, which touches on sci-fi, philosophy, and an alternate Earth-like world in which Djang Empire (styled loosely after the Chinese) has conquered much of the world. The main protagonist (of Vol 1) is from a high-tech aetherpunk world and is brought to something worse.
[Vol 1: The Power Cycle]
As with every known military, the Crestan Mixed Marines expected the impossible from their members. Sobon, a Cyborg Aether-tech specialist attached to a system defense Destroyer, was not expecting the impossible to follow him into the next life--especially not with his memories intact. Transmigrated to a brutal world of corruption, qi, and starbeasts, Sobon must make the best of his new life--or lives. At stake may be more than just his own life, and perhaps more than even one mere, brutal, backwards, blood-soaked world.
[Vol 2: The Aether Sword]
Ki'el, a young islander girl, has followed her master in search of a better life, but now finds herself struggling through a Sect, far from her master and everything she's ever known. She has new friends, people who Sobon has gathered, but can she trust them? Where is Sobon now, what is he doing? What kind of future is Ki'el even hoping to build? Does she even have any answers of her own--and is she supposed to, before she has even grown into an adult? The world keeps turning, and much is changing, although Ki'el can only focus on what is in front of her, right now. The Sect... and the gifts her master left her. One spiritual assistant... and one aether-powered sword.

- DefectivebyDesignRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Since there isn't more reviews I am adding one to help boost. It's a mix of genres, technology and cultivation, although the technology is cultivation based. There's been an accident on the planet that needs help to fix, but the focus is the journey and people met on the way there. The natives on the planet seem to be set on their own destruction through delusional hubris, and Sobon is the accidental help from an advanced civilization. Not to say this is easily done or Sobon is a one man army. The natives will destroy themselves if left alone. Sobon has to fix the accident while dealing with insane cultivators who need a reality check, and making friends and allies with anyone that has some decency. If you like unfathomable senior, you'll probably like this too. Make sure to follow and rate to help this get more views, it deserves a bigger audience.
- Normal7615Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Just putting this here so that other readers can have a heads up. I'm finally understanding that Authors will never use the tagging system on royal road well. Got invested in the volume 1 of the book and enjoyed it only to start reading volume 2 and find out we now have a new protagonist. I understand that there are people that like reading books like this but there are also people that absolutely detest this. I dont think it is to much to ask to put the multiple lead tag in a book like this(or to just generally assign better tags) then it can be filtered out when we the readers are searching for books to read
EDIT:
I am leaving the previous post so that readers can see that the author reads the reviews and listens to feedback. The tag issue has been corrected so there is no need for the previous rating as.
Regarding the book; it is very good. I advise potential readers to have a go at it as it is one of the potential gems on RR. I don't personally play around with different protagonists but It doesn't hinder me from admitting that this a freaking good book. I'm off to find another greener pasture :) - reman37Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This novel doesn't have the visibility that it deserves.
The story is complex with multiple levels of depth, sometimes explained by the author in his notes.
The world (universe) is complex and rich. the scope is wide and goes beyond the simple cultivation of the main characters. You have the feeling that a greater game is at play and you are just seeing a minimal part.
If you enjoy cultivation I suggest this read even if confusing at the beginning. That's because the main character is confused as well. Placed in a world of QI while coming from a universe of technology and aether.
As the protagonist you start confused with minimal information about the mechanics of the powers, the surroundings and the cultures. You are the outsider and you miss the context, exactly like Sobon.
Is QI and aether the same thing? Are they similar? One based on the other? You are going to find out in the hard way: by the mistakes of the MC.
A good blend of adventure and mystery, philosophy and introspection.
And finally I got to see a character creating a storage ring!!!!!
Now I'm curious to see out the story is going to progress and how the protagonist is going to challenge. I even hope to see stories of this broader universe with its races and powers. - DracanmanRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is a good story so far at the point of writing it there’s a great balance of story building to character development and introduction to all aspects of the story are not jarring. I feel like I’m smoothly flowing along learning with the characters and getting attached to characters and hating characters as I should. There is only a little bit of grammar issues but I feel like it’s not immersion breaking just the normal amount. If you enjoy cultivation and slowly learning along with main characters and side characters about how certain things work then I think this is your book.

Getting the feeling this is a bit of a slow burn with rising tensions throughout but I'm not bored. Hell, I'm intrigued to see how this all comes together and how the characters might interact.
