- sgtluaxRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I can say without a doubt in my mind that your story is immensely better that the original material!. Allow me to explain ;D
I was re-watching the original anime to refresh my memories from when I was a child as well in the 90s and to also compare it to the remake on Netflix, and I was growing frustrated with the non-existent story!, there was so much potential but it was wasted:
*No character development
*No lasting consequences
*No real struggles
*Very few emotions transmitted to the views
...but your story?, it ticks all of those and more!!
I was looking for some answers to questions I had about Ranma getting more used to being a girl as the anime progressed and then I saw one of your posts (not the only one I presume :b) about your story on reddit and began to read it and I was immersed from the very first chapter!.
I have cried, felt anger, fear, suspense, hope and so much joy and warmth from your story!
I am grateful that I found your story! and God,
Ranko's songs need to be brought to life as they would have sounded live on her stage!!!
Will be there for when the physical books are ready!
Marvelous work *u*!! - EldanilRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The style of writing is captivating and draws you in, making the world come to life with the descriptions of the little things like current clothing to the before characters unique speech and thought patterns. The individuals characters grammar can be off but that only makes the story more engaging because who uses perfect grammar, especially in a casual setting. Outside of the character's use, the grammar throughout the story is great. The story itself is so captivating and stands both apart and is able to stand alone from the original fandom. Those who are fans of Ranma can enjoy this as well as those who have never seen it from any form of it's media. The story itself draws you in and showcases the struggles and accomplishments in the journey through life, giving you glimpses into the minds of the characters and developing an empathic connection between character and reader. Each of the characters themselves respond, learn, and adapt from the events in the story like an actual thinking person. Overall the beginning of a truly unique and great story. May not be for everyone but even the sceptics and uninterested may be surprised so highly recommend everyone give it a chance and follow Ranko on her journey of self discovery.
- PumpkinWitchRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Loved the original version of this fic, excited for Reignited! Yey!
The story thrives with it's original characters, like Ranko new sisters and rest of the family(Mama Hana FTW).
The journey of a deafeted Ranma who lost it all to Ranko who despite it all is beaming with life is something amazing!
--------
The Plot: The story diverges from Ranma at quite an early point, and quickly becomes it's own thing. Focusing on Ranko overcoming adversities and trying to have a normal life while learning her value as a human being. It isn't an easy road, but it's very rewarding to follow as a reader.
The Characters: Oh gods, I do love Mama Hana and the rest of Phoenix staff, each of them is a fully realised character with their own depth. Some of the existing manga characters also gain a new angle, so it's always quite exciting when they reapear in the story! Always waiting for those moments.
Overall: Phoenix as a whole gave me lot's of joy, it's a really wonderfull jorney, of growth, rising form the ashes, getting back on own feet and fighting the unfair circumstances! it's a powerfull story, ideal for a worse day.
Summary: Try it out and rise! >w< - PyrusLexRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Reignition of Phoenix is awesome, I am really enjoying it.
It has a Great style that seems to flow well.
Phoenix Reignited has an in depth story that is not just characters in a vacuum, but interacting with a world that feels like an experience of the time (with its setting of around 1990).
This story has good grammar which can be a rare thing on any fanfiction.
The characters of Phoenix reignited are true to themselves (for example characters are making decisions just to advance plot but because it’s what that character WOULD do in any given situation - even sometimes having a characters decision partially foil where they are aiming for at any particular time). Does anyone have any idea how many words I have written right now? Just wait until the later chapters drop, this fic will take you on a well built emotional roller coaster.
in store for the future are injuries, events, toxic characters getting their comeuppance, actual effort to achieve a goal, self sacrifice, idiots being idiotic, people learning from mistakes original songs, karaoke, romance, original drinks, dance routines, award shows, past characters not being toxic, proper parenting skills, real life struggles and rags to riches - RumusMupinRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I picked up this fanfiction months ago on a different platform out of curiosity and oh my gosh was that one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The story has such a unique take on so many tropes that leaves readers hungry for more.
not only that, but despite being fanfiction tied to an original piece of media, Readers don’t actually need to know the original work to understand what’s happening in the story because Anne does such a good job of describing the characters and settting to transport us readers directly into the story.
As a reader I hope to see it succeed here on RoyalRoad because both the story and the author behind it are so amazing.
As for the grammar, I personally didn’t find anything of note. The spelling and punctuation all looked professional and the formatting is easy to read.
For the characters that don’t belong to Anne, she did a wonderful job bringing them to life in a way that’s both reminiscent of the original work and have their own unique feel that you can only find from reading Phoenix: Reignited Edition.
The characters she did make, I absolutely love them. As someone who hesitates when reading works of fanfiction with plot relevant original characters, I cannot imagine this story without them. Both because they are indeed plot relevant but also because I’m too attached. Like I mentioned above, the author has a talent for breathing unique life into the characters.
Phoenix: Reignited Edition really does deserve all of the love it gets and it’s such a privilege to be able to read it. - SuccubusRoseRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0An amazing story already, being updated with more experience behind the keyboard, this is going to be and already is a fantastic story right from chapter 1. Anne's writing style, while already wonderful, has improved with experience like all people do in their crafts, and the story itself is already well hooked for an exploration of these characters that is rarely seen or done in the fandom. No visible grammar or spelling mistakes to detract from the work itself, and I already love the fact I can see dimensions of the characters that are normally left unexplored beginning to develop. Obvious the first example is Ranma, who is being faced, for the first time, with something that she cannot fight, bravado her way through, or otherwise fix. We're seeing her in the throes of depression and upheaval that the source material and most fics don't go into, and in addition we're seeing how her behaviors and the situation itself effects the chaotic system of personalities around her. Akane showing a level of consideration and care that goes a long way to make her more of a person than a caricature as she's often portrayed is a great example of that. Ryoga is an ass though. Great work, and absolutely worth the read.
- TesseaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love the Phoenix Saga, and the Reignited version only improves it! It builds on it and adds even more personality and worldbuilding without altering the original story.
This is definitely the version to read, and when you're caught up you can switch back to the original release to continue! - Vikara_ZeeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you have read the description of this story then you already know that this is a remaster of an already existing story that is a lot further along. So this review will include some knowledge of where things go in it. No spoilers, but the way things are going. With that said, let's get to the actual review.
The setting is based on an existing story, but you do not need to know about it to understand and love this story. Everything that is important will be explained as you read along. So no reason to shy away from starting because of that.
Let's just go through the review points:
Grammar:
The story is well formatted and has no problems of bad writing or grammar.
Story:
You will experience a wonderful story about a girl that lost almost everything she ever had and her struggle to find a place in the world. How she finds and embraces her new identity, family and love. And the struggles that come with all of that. It's a story that will make you cry in the best ways as well as smile brightly.
There are ups and downs, downfalls and triumphs, but you will not feel like these are just arbitrary. Things will make sense, and victories are earned.
Characters:
The characters here are great, each one has a distinct personality, and you can differentiate them just by how they speak and think. And each of these characters aren't just flat cutouts, they are fleshed out very well and feel alive in the story.
Style:
It's a very well put together story. It reads like you would expect a published book to read. Clear and understandable and well structured, you won't be confused by plot points being skipped over or ignored.
Extra:
Since the original songs are already announce I will say that they are excellently written and choreographed. You will wish that you could hear them sung for real. Every time a new one get's shown it's unique and interesting.
Lastly, even if this kind of story isn't normally your things, give it a try. It will capture you very quickly and you will wait impa - Arteris EntriRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Have I got your attention? Good
You need to read this fiction, even if you don't know the source. I didn't have the slightest idea where it was from, and I'm leaving this review. If you've made it here and spent the time to look at the reviews, you are a little bit curious. I am here to tell you that this is just that good. This is not for a review swap, this is not because I know the author. This is just that good. That's it, that's all, go read it.
Still here? Maybe you're thinking, "but it's a Fan Fiction, how good could it possibly be?" My answer? You've got that wrong, this is fiction that somehow ended up in someone else's universe. It absolutely stands on its own two legs, wayyy outside the original fictions scope.
Now let's get into why:
GRAMMAR:
It's good, no issues in any way I could find. In fact, the formatting is great and actively helps make the story better.
STORY:
This is a fully comprehensible and understandable story, with no need to have any understanding of the origin that it comes from. There are no loose and random plot threads coming in from nowhere because "they are happening in the show" there are no "you should already know this from the original thing" none of that. Instead, we get a story that immediately sends itself on its own understandable and unique trajectory. The story is about a girl just coming of age who has to deal with the mother of all gender dysphoria. You see, they never wanted to be a girl. Seeing this main character have to deal with the reality that they might not just need to, but also actively enjoy embracing their feminine side, while also not needing to abandon who they are, is an absolute treat to read and done incredibly well. Interested? Read it.
CHARACTER:
You might be concerned again here, "it's a fanfic, I'm going to be so lost I won't know who anyone is." I will promise you this is not a problem, instead it makes the story more interesting. When you don't know who the characters are or what is going on in the - drefRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5For me, the MC has changed so much that he's no longer Ranma; he changes his name to symbolize that, but I don't see why they couldn't just create an original story.
The original work was a comedy, so it's impossible to take things too seriously. However, it always seemed to me that Ranma didn't care much about his body shape, not about how he "dressed" (like the author's interpretation), but more like being indifferent. Ranma is Ranma regardless of whether he's male or female, and this transition that forces him to become more feminine bothered me... but on the other hand, his characterization is very good. The abusive father, the feeling of isolation, the discomfort with intrusive touches, even the recognition of female fear (which I only recently realized) all make sense, and I even like how he detaches himself from the male interpretation. What I don't like is him starting to play a woman.
What bothers the MC the most is that he "can't" play the role of a man in a female body (a Japanese thing, men have one role and women another, there's no middle ground). This is the motivator for his escape and also the driving force of the manga.
I have minor complaints, but they go against what the author wants to convey, so it doesn't make sense to complain about them. If you were interested by the synopsis: read it, it's a solid work... it's just not for me.
