Sylas always wanted to be a hero, a savior who could protect others without breaking himself in the process. But when the System descends and Earth is forced into a brutal initiation, ideals mean nothing. Strength is law. Victory is survival. And failure? Erasure.
The battle for Earth's throne has begun. The winner will lead humanity into the Multiverse, wielding power beyond mortal limits. But leadership isn’t earned, it’s taken. And if Sylas doesn’t claim it first, someone stronger, crueler, and far less forgiving will.
But the System doesn’t reward mercy. Every level gained, every kill secured, drags Sylas further from the man he was and closer to the monster the world demands. Power feeds on pain, and survival means making impossible choices. If he wants to win, he must become something more than a hero, something strong enough to endure, to dominate, to shape the fate of a planet.
The System crowns the ruthless. Can a hero survive long enough to claim the throne?

- MTG_FanaticRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Oh do I love a good survival story. The Painbound Saga has been such a wonderful literary treat to find. Story is compelling and editing seems very professionally finished. I could actually seen this being made into a really cool movie series. Thanks for the contribution and can't wait for the next installment.
- Shade ArjuunRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really like the 'twist' in the beginning. Where it appeared as Sylas was being tortured, I never would have guessed that he was actually being... helped. Usually, the conventions of novels of this genre dictate the MC meet truck kun or some other form of death first before they explore the magical world, but I was pleasantly surprised.
The author really likes his detail and as it so happens, I do too. The amount of information given when Sylas was customising his body was rather interesting. It read like the Elder Scrolls panel for choosing racial Traits. I really enjoyed how thorough the author was.
The author also has a knack for naming things - abilities and monsters in general. During the 'contest' to choose who will rule the world, I was quite surprised by the unique naming conventions the aithor came with and as the chapters went on, I was happy to see that this didn't affect the pace of the story. Introductions to other characters, the action, the explanation of individuals goals doesn't lag.
I quite enjoyed what I've read so far. The writing style also makes it easier to digest, which is an added plus!
Rock on - Lance KrautlargerRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I really enjoyed [The Painbound Saga- Book 1] and found myself immersed in its world from the very beginning. The story is well-paced, with a compelling plot that kept me "turning" through. The characters are well-developed, each with distinct personalities and motivations that make them feel real and relatable.
One of the standout aspects of the book is the rich, detailed, and thoughtfully crafted worldbuilding. The setting feels alive, and I appreciated the depth of lore woven into the story. The prose is engaging, making getting lost in the adventure easy.
While I thoroughly enjoyed the book, there were a few moments where the pacing slowed, or certain plot points felt slightly underexplored. However, these minor issues did not take away from my overall enjoyment.
This was a fantastic read, and I look forward to seeing what the author does next! Highly recommend.
