The Order and The Lost

Description
An ensemble cast on both sides of the line between good and evil walk towards disaster. Every chapter is a different lead from the previous. I apologize for the sometimes awful character names. Part of the Demonsword Project universe (First Age).
Started during NaNoWriMo 2018 but never finished. Updates Monday and Friday for now.

- ThousandOdysseysRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I hesitated to read this for a long time, as I don't usually enjoy stories that constantly changes their POV's.
However, this has proven not to be true here. The Author does a great job of balancing the POV's that exist, keeping them to a core cast and following one line of events.
I'm never left confused, wondering who's head I'm in, where I'm at, or even when I'm at, as can be true with a lot of other stories that follow this format.
Beyond that it is simply a very enjoyable story. I definitely recommend it. Especially to anyone who is reading the other novels by this author, as this one adds a great deal of depth to them. I wish I had read this sooner. - LooseLeafOolongRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I always give an overall score based on very objective metrics.
The writer writes with good style, good grammar and good dialogue. Characters are not speaking as though people would think, but rather how people actually talk. The interactions fall into place pretty nicely.
The only thing that made me take off half a star was that I'm not really sure what anything looks like in terms of the setting. For objective aspects of writing that is the only weakness of this story: I like to smell and feel what the characters feel from the environment.
The character development pace is good, and everything checks out.
That being said, as I always have comments on subjective matters I will jot down a couple here:
Only Chandra and Dennet jumped out to me as characters. I like when I start to instantly like or dislike a character based on what they're saying, thinking or doing. The way that other characters are described/interact made it difficult for me to care about what they were thinking/doing. Particularly...
Spoiler: Spoiler
The way that Janinda and her father, Amon reacted to Roan's death was very underwhelming. And the two characters in general do not jump out to me in any way, at least as of Chapter 21. In contrast, Chandra and Dennet made me take an opinion on them from the moment they were introduced. This shows me that the author is clearly able to make very compelling characters, but the "personality brush" was not evenly applied. Even Torit was okay, but Amon and Janinda just aren't doing it for me.
All that being said, if you like dark fantasy like I do, definitely give this a read. I will continue to read this.
