Description
The world is a wide, wide place. And that's without taking into account the many creatures that inhabit it. When a new Dungeon Core is born deep below the surface, it faces challenge after challenge. The only question is; is it up to the challenge of living in this world?
This is my first attempt at writing a Dungeon Core story. I'll gladly take any and all advice, comments, or criticism.
Releases on whatever day I can muster the ability to write. Which tends to be inconsistent.

- GreatazuredragonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Review made as the story reached chp 11:
The Obsidian Core is a very solid and well written dungeon core story.
The author’s MC is interesting and he develops it and the other creatures very well. That, alongside how well he managed to develop the first group of intruders that reached the dungeon despite how short a time frame we had with them, shows a lot of promise in the character development side of things.
A solid and enjoyable read. - InsanElderRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It didn't do anything very original yet, but it is diferent enougth that it doesn't feel like i am rereading another one of those generic dungeon core stories.
The pacing was good, not too fast and not to slow...no instant death dungeon. Very little worldbuilding yet.
I liked how the autor didn't just use all the usual elements comom in the genre like many like to do. - somu910Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0After reading horrific about isekaid/edgy/harem dungeon cores with 'scarily' intelligent friends and the emotional range of an entire soap opera, this feels like a nice, original dungeon story that focuses on the dungeon itself.
Great work to relex with, and the lack of any really exciting action till now doesn't exactly exclude some in future.
But what I like is how well deicted the slightly alien mentality of a sapient, alienalien species is done ny the author.
Keep up the good work! - tomdabombRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A very entertaining new addition to the dungeon core sub-genre. I thoroughly enjoyed binge-reading through the current entire novel in one sitting. Only drawback was a slight vernacular deficiency (grammar and word choice was a little off in places), but it was small enough that It was in no way distracting or immersion-breaking. The way the core is acting in what I find to be natural for a newborn creature such as itself and is willing to trust its instincts and expand, create, and kill instead of being queasy about killing is very satisfying (I can't tell you about the number of novels I drop in this genre because the core is a human soul that spares at least half of its delvers). All-in-all I really like where this novel is going. If a patreon was made I would be one of the first to subscribe.
- rexharrisRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This novel is still in its infant stages, but seems to be set up for success. I will go over the aspects of the story that make me excited about this novel, and then more into the review.
So far this novel has done a lot of things right. I say this from the POV of someone who reads a lot of novels and also has read a lot of dungeon and LitRPG novels. Here are the main points I noticed so far.
POV Changes: the author has handles them very well. There aren't too many, they all add to the story, and give us both background knowledge and foreshadowing. Many novels get caught up doing to many POV changes or do them to often to one side charecter (usually a dungeon delver) and it can blur the focus of the novel.
The Boxes: the litRPG aspect is down very well, it is there and adds information and choices to the story. But it's not excessive to the point where your just focusing on the system and tiny details
Polls and integration with Readers: the author seems to value readers opinions and has already done some polls. The author comments are also informative and interesting. This is one of the main reasons I'm taking the time to write this review.
Pacing: the novel is paced very well so fa. The dungeon is getting stronger, but not insanely. Most of the strength is also from a few strong creatures. The progression set up so far is good since it prevents just mass power leveling and producing op creatures.
Options: One of my personal favorite things is when authors take the time to make interesting options for choices and not just always have one or two obvious winners. During the first dungeon evaluation there are a lot of good options and really made me think about the possibilities.
STYLE: the author does a good job keeping the style relative to the POV. The first chapter seems slower to symbolize how the dungeon is newer and slower thinking. The parts from a sentient races perspective are adjusted to feel more like normal writing from a persons POV.
STORY: This novel is - DxdraydenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A well written dubgeon story, good core perspective and good world building, however just one warning to the author, dont go down the roads others did that made them fail, you are a dungeon story, stay that way dont include the long drawn out lives of humans, or elves or whatever else, keep the story on the dungeon no pity or helping the greater good. Just keep the same premise you have now and you will do great
- AlyienRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I'm rating this as of Chapter 11.
My overall grade on this story can be summed up as a simple 'Quite Interesting'. Quality wise, there are better stories, but in terms of grabbing my interest? At least in the first 11 chapters, this one is definitely one of my higher ranked stories.
The MC is a dungeon core, one that doesn't seem to have any previous lives/memories, and what we get is kind of a stale MC who has the intelligence and maturity of an adult but no experience and therefore no personality. This is both a pro and a con for me. It makes perfect sense that he's stale now, but stale is always meh, but it also gives the character a ton of room to grow and develop a personality.
Side characters introduced thus far have been pretty interesting. While the first adventurers died quick, I really liked how the author introduced them and they felt like 'real characters'. The most recent chapter also showed us a couple scenes from other people and I'm looking forward to how everything there develops. The dungeon creatures are similar to the MC, a bit stale right now, but they are all newborn creatures and have already started developing habits/traits that catch my interest.
There is pretty much zero world building as of Chapter 11, so I can't really express my opinions on that. We've caught glimpses of others, but details have been on the people with no real introductions to the cities, states, countries, etc, that might exist. We also aren't aware of the power levels, if normal people have a system, how powerful the creatures in the dungeon are versus the average person, etc. This is another thing that is a pro and a con for me. I'm glad not to have a bunch of information dumps and the lack of information actually makes me more interested in learning about the world but it also can't be dragged on for too long. We just have nothing to compare the dungeon to.
I'm very interested and have tentatively rated this at 4.5/5 stars and will follow this novel and hope it doesn - CourtJessterRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Are you a fan of Dungeon Core stories where the dungeon core wasn't a human in another life? Well, this is probably the story for you.
I give 'story' a four star rating because it is strong. Not the best start I've EVER read, but it stays true to itself, there is nothing fundamentally wrong with it and it has huge potential as of chapter 13ish? It's just too early to give 5 stars for story, because I believe stories require time to reveal their originality and personality - and it's still a young story with room to grow out of the standard tropes and cliches of the genre.
Grammar is pretty good, and the author is quick to edit based on comments, so, if you see something, you can probably expect it to be fixed. At no point was I derailed from the story by grammar errors.
The characters are good in my early opinion. Again, true to themselves in a general sort of way. Shit happens, as it does in life, which lends the characters a delicious air of authenticity.
In terms of style, again, it is early but there was a very smooth and believable and RELEVANT perspective shift for a chapter. I hate perspective shifts. I do. But this was done really well, and added so much to the depth and pace of the story, to the action, etc.
I'm not an expert, but as story starts go, I think you should read this and stick with it. - Scipio231Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5Not a bad start at all for a Dungeon story. There's plot occuring, reactions from those outside the dungeon and interesting things happening in the dungeon with satisfying regularity. There's also a bit of personality and interacton between the dungeon monsters and the start of an ecosystem. I'm looking forward to reading more.
- TooLucidRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5A well done dungeon core LitRPG so far. Well focused on development of the core, his favortie monster minions, and the layout of his dungeon levels! Easy, fun flow - it was effortless to read up to here in one sitting. All of the characters, settings, and development are believable and realistic. The interludes and side scenes are appropriate and add flavor to the main story (much appreciated). I look forward to more!
