451 Nakunan scientists and soldiers, all dead in less than a minute. Their killer? Buster Harkness, the Butcher of Baldwin's Fall. This biological weapons scientist realized that he was a bad guy, so he did something about it the only way he knew how: with biological weapons. Buster's not a typical hero for a dark military science fiction adventure: he's fat, he's middle-aged, he's never fired a gun or piloted a mech in his life, and he's a giant panda.

This fat old panda has to rely on creative thinking, technical skills, a mean streak a mile wide, and a willingness to throw himself in the line of fire if he's going to survive the lumbering bipedal walkers and sadistic pilots of the Nakunan Empire. He's going to have to learn compassion, empathy, and the ability to play nice with others if he's going to build a new life in a better world. And he's going to have to face the people he's wronged, one way or another.
