- IrjaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Its good. The flow of the story is nice. It doesnt waste words count on describing the room a character is in, unlike some other stories.
Theres a touch of HFY in the story, but not too much. After all, main character need plot armor, but not too much or too obvious. Author manage to find a balance in ths aspect.
Lots of tech aspect regarding weapons, ships, armors, etc. But it doesnt take too much out of a chapter. The chapter still focus on the story.
Theres some POV change, but again, not too much. Its just enough so that reader know what happen elsewhere. Some other authors waste too many words on it, telling the background, family, aunt, kids, etc during POV change that doesnt affect the story whatsoever. In other words, effective application of POV change.
All in all, a good read. - gary0044187Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very nice. Starting to detect story influences from all over, everything from Homeworld, to Stellaris, to Star Trek, etc. Love the blend. Good luck moving forward.
- Helo1987Royal Road★★★★ 4.0Quite liked it. probably a lot of tech for most people but i apreciate details in world building.
if there was a fullsized contunuation i whould proably be willing to pay for it. - KingLionexRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Seriously just pitch this to a game company. You have more than enough, well, everything here to make a fully fleshed out 4x strategy game. You have practically already wrote the entire tech tree down to the statistics of the energy output of a engine. You already have everything here, you just need some one to program it. On the story itself, there are not many typos and it's mostly commas placed in awkward positions that bring down the writing quality. Also, putting all those technical details in a spoiler instead leaving them out in the open was a good decision. Overall it's a solid sci-fi that I would recommend to people that love the technical aspects of that genre although I don't think it willl interest people who don't really enjoy that kind of thing.
- ZethuronRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Well, what a good sci-fi story this is, especially all the techinical detail were quite nice, even if it is overwhelming at times.
This story starts with the fall of Humanity, for Mankind was at war with a alien race, the Cathamari, a race that thrives on slavery, and either destroys or enslaves fresh races they meet. The war has not been going well, with only Earth remaining of all of the worlds Humanity had, and they do lose, for even the strongest defenses they can field, are not enough to defend against the overwhelming number advantage of the Cathamari, and so Earth itself falls to the enemy, but hope is not all lost, for Mankind's newest ships, that were outfitted with the means to travel between stars survive the battle, thus the EFS Enterprise (and yes, not exactly a original name) along with a couple other ships, set out for the stars. They discover there that the galaxy is far larger than they thought, with many races travelling between the stars, having all kinds of varying ships and levels of technology. Humanities survival is not guantreed, for the galaxy is a harsh place, with many dangers, even a single battle lost, could mean the end of their race, and they would not be the first race to fall in such a manner.
I will be fair, this story is not much in terms of characters, but that is more due to what kind of story this is, it features a LOT of characters, with a couple being the most focused on, emotions and growth is barely shown at all, which is sort of excessive, even if most characters shown so far belong to one or other kind of military.
What this story does lack in terms of character, it more than makes up for with its universe, the plot, and the amount of technical detail put into the story. It seriously does excel there. So far i have been loving the story and the larger universe it is set in, it is exceedingly well written.
This story does feature a galaxy with many different races, of all kinds of forms with them having their distinct uniqu - HeeimweiredRoyal Road★★ 2.0Essentially a good story, however the writing leaves a lot to be desired.
Fact heavy, clunky non-dramatic combat. Diplomatic conversation opportunities almost completely ignored. etc.
A notable scene can be (only sightly) summarised by:
We flew into their space.
They shot at us.
We shot back and crippled their ship.
They surrender, invite us back to their homeworld, talk to us about their shields, hash out a peace treaty and are now our only freinds as we immediately leave for the next sector of space.
Also please, please learn the difference between two, too, and to.
I really appreciate that writing to a schedule is hard work, and I admire those who make the effort.
This story could use a revisit and rewrite to do it justice.
