Description
Leo's first order of business when he is dropped unceremoniously into the pokemon world is to survive. Seeing as he is in the middle of the wild with only a small pocketknife, some papers, and a backpack, and with no signs of civilization in sight, that is setting up to be quite the task.

- zero1995Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0One of the best pokemon fanfic I have ever read. I just wanted to let the author know that i appreciate the time and effort put into the story and looking forward to seeing where it goes in the future. thank you for sharing it. I recommend all pokemon fan to read this amazing story.
- ArteriaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a fantastic story, even if you don't read fanfiction (which I generally don't). It's part survival story, part "boy and his dog" story, with a hefty dose of politics, of all things.
I think what I appreciate most is how solid all of the character feel, from people to Pokemon. Leo prefers being outdoors and in the wild, and he's working on the whole "trainer" thing, but somehow his journey to collect badges (or complete the island challenges) is never the goal. The Pokemon range from smarter-than-humans to dopey-friendly-dog, and the story even manages to explain how people can eat meat in a world full of intelligent creatures.
Zuko is my favorite by far. He's like a big dog that just soaks up all the attention.
And the secondary characters are equally good. I love how Victoria is struggling to deal with all the future-event stuff Leo dumped on her, but she refuses to ask him for help because she sees him as a child, and as an adult she feels like she has to protect him. There are all sorts of reasons, petty and profound, behind the rise of something like Team Rocket---a terrorist/criminal organization didn't just sprout up for the heck of it, and even knowing Team Rocket exists from the games doesn't give Leo the context on WHY. The region's leaders, the economy, the techology, and more, are all facets of this bigger, more complicated world.
Or take Oak, and his opposition to the Youngster License, and how the concerns of an adult whose fame puts his every decision under scrutiny conflict with his desire to support Leo. It's easy to see this as a real world.
There are a few small grammatical issues, but nothing big enough to really take me out of the story.
Overall, it's stories like these that have made me reconsider my stance on fanfiction. As a moderate fan of the Pokemon games, I still needed to look up several of the 'mons I didn't know offhand, but the story still works well even without having extensive knowledge of the franchise. Highly Recommended. - irondruid7Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is one of those stories I slept on and wish I didn't. I tried it out a while ago but didn't get past the first chapter because I saw two people had been transported. That's not really my thing, and I thought it was going to be more of a thing than it was(It isn't, for anybody else worried about perspective jumping around multiple main characters. This is a single main character story through and through). But once I revisited and gave it a chance I ended up loving it. I really can't recommend this more! I'm not even going to make this an advanced review because none of those other categories matter. It's not perfect, but it is perfect if you get what I mean.
Give it a try. And review if you liked it. Help convince the people who used to like pokemon but wouldn't consider reading pokemon fanfiction to give it a shot. I was in the same boat until I saw someone review another pokemon fanfic and mention being in the same position. It made me curious enough to try something I would've assumed was made by someone in pokemon's regular demographic lol - lomie0Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I check out pokemon fanfics from time to time, and have always found them to either be boring wish fulfillment or just too bad to be worth reading. This fiction is the first ever that I have found and didn't immediately drop and more than deserves my 5* with the realistic approach to the villains really enhancing the danger they represent as intelligent and supremely competent where in the shows and games they're laughably easy to beat.
- shambondRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've tried fanfics before, and I'd almost given up, but this gives me hope. The chapters are super long, but my only gripe is, now that I've reached the end, I wish it released faster. I would not mind shorter chapters(around 2k words) if it meant a shorter release time.
- AcesulfameRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Finally a good pokemon fanfiction, you can really feel the author's love for the series. The writing is very fluent with basically no errors. The story is quite interesting and with more mature tones than what you would expect from a story in the Pokemon universe, while still mantaining a slice-of-life feel to it, overall a very nice balance. The MC's true age is in his 20s, so he's capable of reasoning and introspection, the reader is (mostly) spared from shounen shenanigans like believing in the heart of the cards.
- ElloraRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This fic tells a mature and realistic pokemon story without getting too grimdark, which I very rarely see in a pokemon fic. The grammar is flawless and the writing flows fluently. And I love the slice of life bits that makes the characters seem much more 'alive', in a sense that makes you genuinely care for them. All in all, a fantastic pokemon story.
- GeneralFoxIronwoodRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Well done story, and I appreciate what the author was able to give us. Though it is 'dropped' Lightningwarrior still gave us closure with the last "chapter" with the remainder of the storyboard. Pro-move there, don't know how many dropped stories I've seen on here where it's just like "Whoops well we're done here," but this isn't one of them.
- GramNomadRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Pokemon is a robust setting that's ripe for talented writers to really make something special out of it. I feel Natural executes on this more than any of it's contemporaries, save for Borne of Caution. Those two stories rekindled my love for Pokemon that I thought had dried up years ago.
The only criticism I could have for Natural is that sometimes the author will set future plot points up then seemingly decide they don't like the idea that much and gloss over it. This is really a non issue though because the author does such a good job writing engaging plot and characters that you don't feel like you missed anything.
I highly recommend this story. It feels like it breaths life into the magic of the Pokemon world. - GreedyGoblinRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great and engaging story. All the characters feel real, with their reactions and interactions. Not just two dimensional. Like the team as it feels like he does have a connection with all his pokemom, not just the starter. Story has good flow and feels like a real journey, and meets a decent amout of legendaries, and his added lore sounds realistic in the pokemon world. Would recommend.
