Description

(I, The Commentator, am posting this story for a friend. This is not my original creative work, but I am helping to edit it.)

A group of 3 disposable assassins on a covert mission through deep space encounter some old friends, and some newly discovered nightmares. The Medusa, a spaceship made of stone and run by Captain Evee Nicole Alekseev, is unprepared for what awaits. When they discover that they can never go back home, and that they will likely all die on a quest to find a list of both forbidden cursed items left by an extinct species of primordial gods, and some of the demon gods themselves, the group's true determination shows.

Locked and loaded, and willing to sacrifice everything, the team of lost souls must face challenge after challenge, losing themselves and everything they know on a mission they don’t fully trust or believe in. It promises to take their lives and leave broken shells of what they once were. The weight of the universe bearing down on them, they press onward into the void.

The two feuding leaders of the motley crew debate a dark prophecy where one of them will become one of the very chaos gods they must hunt and destroy. Which friend, or lover, hides a destiny of murder and betrayal, and which one will leave a wave of blood and chaos in their awakening?

The Angel of Death patiently slumbers, waiting for the right time to awaken.WARNING!Medusa’s list canonically follows the events ofDelmar season 3. HOWEVER, the Medusa’s list stand-alone book series requires no prerequisites to read, and Medusa’s List can be a starting point for those who prefer horror and dark psychological scifi over goofy scifi comedy. However, if you DO enjoy goofy, semi-raunchy, space comedy and want to read the Delmar books, it is recommended to begin with “Hearts of Delmar 1” to avoid retroactive spoilers going back later. This is just optional for those wanting a much larger book universe with different comedy genres as well as darker space horror spinoff sequels. For those of you that just wanna get right to the demented stuff…proceed here with Medusa’s List 1, and step behind the Veil.

Alright, this story’s like a cosmic roller coaster built by some sci-fi genius who had, let’s say, a lot of time to dream this one up.
Characters are A 1 steak sauce. AKA they are good, life-like, and believable.
We’ve got Captain Nicole, who’s every bit a grounded, sarcastic presence we need when staring into the chaotic abyss of space. Gizzy, is a walking whirlwind of intrigue and frenetic science, bringing with her a darker, almost fever-dream quality.
The humor’s top-notch, if you’re into that surreal, dry, Douglas Adams-style wit that twists everything—existential dread, clone AI therapy, and genetically engineered pet snails—into bizarre but compelling reflections of humanity.
The pacing is quick and jagged, and this oddball mix of character quirks, high-stakes mission, and intergalactic nonsense just works. Nicole’s crew becomes a bunch of loveable misfits you root for because their strange solutions to survival feel refreshing and, at times, surprisingly relatable.
Stylistically, yeah, there are a few minor grammar quirks, but they actually fit. They’re like little marks of authenticity that don’t slow things down at all, just add to the vibe of this sort of grimdark space guide to saving the universe. Honestly, if you’re into sci-fi that isn’t trying to be pristine or formulaic but is focused on keeping it interesting, this series deserves your full attention. A madcap ride that takes risks and genuinely pays off. So yeah, 5 out of 5.

If you like very complete world building then this is certainly a book for you. The writer has a clear idea of all of the rules that govern the clone and memory technology. I’m not a huge sci-fi fan, but I really liked the expanse because it took the time to explain how things worked. This book does the same and it's better for it.
When you get to the end of the chapters there is a real treat. Full layout and design of the ship with level by level floorplans and statistics, full weapon specs. The eye for detail is astonishing.
    Story
The story is really intriguing from the get go and the use of the memory wipe is a great tool to give us an understanding of the technology available, while also giving us insight into the main characters. The story moves on at a great pace and I found myself easily carried through the chapters.
The story makes you feel like you have jumped into a world that was ongoing long before you arrived. Characters have complicated relationships between them with very eventful backstories. Again the strength of the worldbuilding shines, each part of the universe has been thought out.
    Characters
Jack is a sarcastic character and is well written. In the opening scenes however I thought that the way that Jack and Gizzy/charlotte spoke was very similar. Both were quite snarky, witty with dry humour. It would be good to see them have more identifiable and unique personalities. In addition to this as I moved further in the story I found that because it is written from a third person omniscient perspective, we don’t get much insight into what the characters are thinking and so have to gain all information from the dialogue. As much of the characters have a similar tone it’s a bit hard to really set them apart.
    Grammar
I wasn’t close reading for issues, a few mistakes here and there are to be expected, but nothing interrupted by enjoyment of the story.
