- Mount Tai UnleashedRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I only read webnovels these days, the last professional work I read was darren shan and that was years ago in highschool, where there was mandatory reading time which was enforced!
Anyway, this novel reminds me of that as the story flows well and the grammar is excellent!
There's plenty of character expression and even with so few chapters, you can easily tell the main cast apart; for example-
Jacob is the meek character of the bunch and Brielle is young, hot blooded and defiant of their current circumstances. She has yet to be burderned by any heavy responsibilities as from what i've seen so far, zach and hikaru do.
What I would like to see in this story in maybe a side arc is the opposite of zack and his group.
Like another group of orphans after being treated like trash by society decided to choose the dark path by becoming criminals and villains.
Like batman and the joker? Lol just an idea haha :)
Overall?
It's a very well written take on the superhero genre with a twist, definitely worth a read. - SigurdRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Style: 5
The paragraph and dialogue structures are among the best I've seen on this website. Someone may find issues with the varying length of the chapters, but I would never call it a flaw. Nothing more to add.
Grammar: 4
Tenses and punctuation are mostly fine, they could be used more effectively in a couple of situations but in the end it's just down to personal taste. Some repetitions here and there, nothing that editing couldn't fix. Overall pretty good.
Story: 4,5
It's still early to tell, but the setting is promising so far. Without spoiling anything, the story seems to move on at a steady pace, without cutting any corner, it's dynamic and entertaining enough to keep the reader invested and doesn't look improvised at all.
Characters: 4,5
I find no issues with the characters other than the fact that too many are introduced in the first chapter together. This (at least at the start) undermines the balance between them and overly confuses the reader, who can't momentarily keep track of who is who. It's a bit of a shame because their interactions are actually believable and interesting.
Overall: 4,5
The slower than average release rate might keep most readers away from this school-superhero drama. Yet, its level completely justifies the time the author needs. Too many choose to sacrifice the quality of their stories in order to push a tighter, daily schedule (and the platform itself rewards them for such), so it's nice for once to see an author who isn't scared of doing things right.
A definite yes, for me. Read it, bear with it and get used to its quirks. I can already foresee how much it will deliver. - WinterwispRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This review applies as far as chapter 5.
Since the story has only just begun, I won't go into detail, but give an overall picture of the structure and strength of the story, as well as comment on the potential it has.
This is a very grim and stark depiction of a society that has collided with the supernatural. It is absolutely brutal in its description of the conditions that these heroes live in, and a far cry from the shine and glitter of comics and fairytales.
The writing here is of real quality. Exposition is seamlessly integrated into the narrative, leaving out the specifics for the reader to catch on to. The characters are compelling, with distinct personalities, and their dialogue is fluent and natural. There are virtually no issues with grammer; sentence structure is tight and the spelling is excellent, indeed it is a pleasure to read!
The only issue I have is that you, so far, have to buy into certain premises, for which the background has not been entirely explained yet. One is the utter antipathy against these heroes, which is my big one; while the other concerns how they are supposed to be operating in secret, and yet everyone knows about who they are and what they do.
The story is obviously still in its early stages, and thus these minor issues does not detract from the fact that this story has real potential and a solid foundation. I'm honestly surprised it hasn't gotten more traction already, but as long as the chapters keep coming I'm sure it'll get there.
I plan to return for a more ind-depth review once more chapters have been released, and I look forward to follow the story! - TimothyMcGowenRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I've read up to chapter 5 so far.
If you've seen the Umbrella Academy then you have the basic premise of this story. Orphans as heroes, except in this telling of the story instead of just the man who adopts them being cruel, cold, and mean it is literally everyone.
The first chapter took me a moment, but once I got used to the style it really is a good story. The characters feel unique and varied enough that the dialogue isn't boring. The story doesn't give to much to quick which is always good.
I hope that the writer explores why everyone would hate them so much, otherwise I feel like this is a weak point. I, however, have no problem waiting to see where it goes and have faith that the writer will address this eventually.
