It’s the launch night of the first full-dive video game, Apocalyptic World, that utilizes Virtual Reality to its fullest. Midnight, the captain of a division within an esports team, is joined by her fiance, Winter, and her teammates Sheep, the second in command, Ghost the assassin and Lemon, the newbie gunner. As the countdown slowly reaches zero, the team get into their pods, excited for the release of the game they had beta-tested for months, eager to get a head start of the competition.

Upon launching the full-dive, Midnight finds herself in a strange situation. No character creation screen had been given to her, instead she awoke in an aged room holding a revolver. Upon calling out to the System, she found it different to what it had been during the beta and there were no options to log out.

Realising that she has been brought to another world and learning from the System that just over a million overs had been brought here, she soon links up with the rest of her team that had arrived along with her. She and her team must now figure out how to survive in this seemingly abandoned world, filled with enemies that the System warned them about.

The Machinist of the Apocalyptic World, written by author Arkean, is a progression litRPG fantasy novel that follows Midnight, the captain of an e-sports team that has been transported to another world, together with her crew during the launch of a full-dive MMO game. The story follows them as they rejoin each other, doing their best to survive and thrive in this other world that is nothing like they had been expecting it to be. The story is targeted toward adult readers, with at least one r18+ scene.
There is a broad cast of characters who are all interesting to follow along with, although we as readers primarily follow Midnight. Character interaction seems to be a main focus of the story, together with quests and establishment. Quests, numbers-go-up, and such manners are one of the core elements of the story, so litRPG fans will be well pleased here.
The grammar and writing of the story are both well done, and I found nothing to point out. The flow and prose are both done nicely and move you through the story without flaw.
All in all, if you’re interested in growth, exploration, and adventure-story, then you should give this one a fair shot! =)

Let me start by saying that this story is really interesting and that you should give it a try for reasons discussed later on in the review.
Firstly the style is something that i really enjoy. This story doesn’t waste your time with trying to be super descriptive when all that is happening is traveling or walking somewhere. The only problem is that i can get confused about the time frame sometimes of travel but that may be a me problem
Story is very good. Interesting premise. I also like how the levels are done and that it’s not like there are 1000 of levels. This makes the level ups much more impactful and give a feeling of great achievement for the readers and the characters. After all the volumes the MC is only level 3 but the power ups are strong and it makes the story worth it. Action is on point. I like the descriptions and the fights are well paced. They aren’t too fast or too slow. I also like the lore behind the world is getting more developed as the story goes along and it’s very interesting so far. There’s more to the game than just a rouge AI
Not much to say about the grammar. I think i see a spelling mistake every now and again very rarely.
Characters are good. The characters are relatable and i like how they interact with each other and give the feel of actual people. Sometimes some characters can get forgotten in a sense or you don’t hear from them u less it’s a big fight but that’s okay. The MC makes you feel engrossed in her story and you want to get more of her. And sense the story is in first person then you don’t really expect to see more of the characters. Power system is also really well done. MC isn’t actually stupid so that’s good. Side character are enjoyable and each have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Things that I really like about this:
-Base building! I love it, constant consideration of logistics, command structures, equipment, schedules, etc.
-The character dynamics. There aren't any fascinating characters, but I like the closeness of the main cast and the way they interact.
-The pacing. A lot of progression focused stories either take to long to get anywhere interesting or dump way to much power early and have to deal with terrible pacing issues. This moves at a really good pace and because their power goes up in leaps, we get enough time with each stage of power.
I recommend trying this out.

The characters made this story for me, and the narrative drew me in from the very start. It’s a compelling beginning---the author’s confidence and introductions of the characters as though we already know them really worked for the story. Right away, I dove into the story, and it hooked me---something that is a huge positive.
Second, as the story continues, we get more and more of a sneak peak into the characters and their relationships, which was a huge plus for me. As they explore this new world, we are also immersed. The author does this in almost a seamless fashion which I really enjoyed.
There are no glaring grammatical errors that kept me from enjoying the story. In fact, the author even formatted the blue boxes to add a really smooth, aesthetically-pleasing look to them which I appreciated (maybe that’s a silly detail, but it really polished up the look of things, especially since they are quite abundant).
If LitRPG is your thing and you want an immersive, character-driven story, this is your boat; don’t miss it. The characters end up feeling like your friends the more and more you read---and the action keeps you wanting to dive into the next chapter and the next… Well done!
