- Tu ShuaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Troublemakers playing with magic.
Style: The author has done an exceptional job of creating a world that strikes a perfect balance between familiarity and uniqueness. The fantasy style of the story is captivating, drawing the reader in with vivid descriptions and imaginative details.
Grammar: The novel exhibits a commendable grasp of grammar, but I found a few instances of awkward sentences; these can be attributed to the author's limited experience. However, with sufficient time and practice, the author's writing style is sure to evolve and improve, eventually leading to a more polished and refined story.
Story: The carefully crafted world by the author left a lasting impression on me. The main character, initially portrayed as a playful troublemaker, soon finds himself embroiled in a complex web of deception and intrigue. The story takes a sharp turn, plunging the reader into a world of conflict and hidden motivations where nothing is quite as it seems.
Character: The story follows Eiden, a naive prince with magical powers who doesn’t care for the throne and simply makes trouble all around. However, after an incident, the main character is set on a journey to grow into a worthy character.
I believe the novel is worth a read. From the magic to the conflict and the worldbuilding, it will surely capture your interest.
As the chapters progress, you will notice the growth in the author's writing. - Shade711Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have read through 10 chapters so far and I am happy I started. This is a very well written and interesting work of fantasy. Its not groundbreaking but does what it sets out very well.
If you like high fantasy, then this is the way to go. It almost made me feel like I was living out a JRPG. - IZWRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Disclaimer: All of this is based on the first five chapters. Further reading might improve the scores, and from what I’ve read, it likely will.
All in all, a bumpy start was quickly eclipsed by significant improvements. This was the case for almost all aspects—except the plot, which was good from the start, though a little muddled in translation.
Style & grammar: The former can so easily be affected by the latter, which, at the start, was not the greatest. Serviceable, but with quite a large margin of improvement. This margin was leaped over in no time—what started as 2.5/5 ended in 4.5/5, and within five chapters, no less. All the floating commas, the disconnected paragraphs, and the lack of dialogue tags disappeared. As such, the style was finally given room, showing it to be a fast-paced and slightly flighty type that pairs well with both the protagonist and the plot.
Story & Character: Interesting. The protagonist is a little naive, for my tastes but still utterly believable, considering his age and upbringing. The insidious undertones given to the uncle's character were, in my opinion, masterful, though this is predicated on my prediction of his vile nature.
Overall, this was a great and promising fiction with fantastical elements that are slowly being revealed. - TheHaoboSpatulaRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The Lost and Found: The Broken Key is a captivating fantasy novel with an anime-inspired flair. The story unfolds in the richly detailed Nesolian Empire, where a young steward, poised for magic and adventure, faces a life-altering magical incident. It's a nice novel that's marked by great worldbuilding.
Style: The novel is marked by a vivid fantasy-anime style, blending action, dialogue, and exposition seamlessly, creating an engaging reading experience.
Story: The narrative excels in world-building, showcasing a realm filled with historical depth, magic, and intrigue. The element-based magic system adds a unique touch to the fantasy genre. It doesn't have that many bells and whistles but its consistent and comfortable.
Grammar: While the story is compelling, it is somewhat marred by grammatical issues, including tense inconsistencies and punctuation errors. But I honestly think that this is not that big of a problem.
Character: The protagonist, a young prince with magical abilities, is well-crafted. His journey following a magical accident sets the stage for substantial character development and growth.
It's definitely worth a try, it might take a little to get into but it certainly has its shining moments! If the grammar was fixed a little the overall reading experience would be nicer too. - Veriana RoseRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The first few lines of the story immediately caught my attention—but as I read the first five chapters, some parts brought me out of the experience.
Style: It’s written in third person and uses some descriptions that help visualize the surroundings. However, the writing—including the dialogue—feels a bit stilted to me. There are also a lot of weird timeskips with very little indication that time passed.
Story: It has a promising start and has an interesting premise. The story suffers from the strange timeskips and stilted writing, though—they make the story hard to follow, and it gets a bit confusing. It takes me out of the story and makes it more difficult to enjoy, because I can’t quite understand what’s happening. As an example, Eiden starts the story at age 14, then in another chapter he’s said to be almost 16, then the next mention we hear of his age was him turning 19 the following summer—the passage of time isn’t made clear in the text. With all that said, though, I had no issues with the pacing—the rate at which each plot point happens is pleasing, save for a few character moments I’ll mention below.
Grammar: Some sentences are oddly phrased and there are strangely placed commas, but otherwise the story uses good grammar.
Characters: As mentioned before, the dialogue is a bit stilted, and that makes it hard to get to know the characters—no one has their own distinct ‘voice.’ Some of Eiden’s actions confuse me—his change in mood from remorseful to disliking his uncle’s family in the first and second chapters, respectively—but a part of that may be the timeskips lacking indication. Additionally, there isn’t a lot of development for Eiden and Esme’s relationship—we only see the announcement, the initial awkwardness, and them eventually liking each other, but little to no in between moments. (Although that could be personal preference, because I’m a fan of seeing how characters change, especially in relationships.) However, if the writing style was a bit differe - The Writer MeaRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5In terms of the story, I think the biggest problem is predictability. It is obvious that a girl who has been seen before will be in a romantic relationship with the MC. Instead, I believe that the author should suddenly erase the events he planned in his story and include twists and turns. Apart from that, the story of a magic-based prince or now king with a lot of potential in terms of story is being told. I haven't seen much about the world, we will probably be enlightened in the following chapters.
The style was good. The author conveys the story in a beautiful and direct language. I cannot say that it is the best, but I cannot say that it is a failure. Except for the author's minor grammar mistakes, I did not see much problem with the grammar.
The characters seemed quite similar to my eyes. As far as I can see, good and evil are separated in a clear line. I hope that this way of thinking will be broken in the future and we will see the development of the character through philosophy and the goals he gains with it. MC is still young and has a long way to go. I look forward to seeing his emotional and exciting moments. - LifeWisherRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Let me start my review with the biggest weakness of this novel, which is grammar. I don’t mind the occasional mistake. The author is new and we all make mistakes. EDIT: I started reading just before a major edit, and the author has already removed a lot of the issues I pointed out in the continuation of this paragraph.
The edited chapters flow much better, and most major issues have been resolved. It is always good to see authors listen to feedback and react fast!
The one thing I liked most is the worldbuilding, which is something I say a lot. But there is a ton of effort and thought put here, and the descriptions of architecture, rainforests, rivers, and castles are vivid and give off the feeling of a world that has existed for a long time. As if the author has a map and description of a real place in front of him as he writes the story. It is well done and I have to give points for that.
The premise is not complicated, following the story of a young prince with pretty cool inherent magical powers. He is a likable enough character, although it remains to be seen if he will be well-developed.
I think it is a story worth checking out. Supporting newer authors is important. It is a plus that there is a lot of it!
