- sleepysunsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0this is an absolute gem of high fantasy.
there's actually a lot more to the mc than him just being overpowered which is where a lot of fantasy novels do fall short. there's even some chapters focused on introspection and a unique perspective about him actually caring about the body he's found himself in which is really something i've never seen.
the supporting cast is also pretty unique but definitely could use some more development when it comes to the side characters because most of the focus is on the story itself i love the fact that you won't ever get bored because the pacing is fast and you never feel like there are "filler" chapters so far. the world building is decent and it's done without lore dumping which feels good because it's spread out throughout the story. and the author really does upload nearly every day which is great.
though i do love the pacing, i think the author could afford to slow down from time to time because it's going from plot point to plot point really really fast and even though it is entertaining it can be a bit much but then again, it's better than having like 5 chapters straight where the story isn't progressing at all.
i do like the dashes of greek mythology that's sprinkled in throughout the story as well and i feel like that's going to play a bigger role in the future of the story, at least i hope that's the case because i'm a huge greek mythology nerd and that would be awesomme.
i love the action in this story because it doesn't shy away from being graphic which is something i do enjoy personally. one thing i would say is that the author could work more on the magic system? because it does seem a bit all over the place but other than that, a really great story in the making!! - ShadowFox00Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Lord of the Seas is one of the stories I follow because I'm invested in the story over some of my other reads where I read it for the physical action and buildup. It's a story with a setting and world I don't find myself usually reading and while it's had a few pitfalls it's never had anything that's made me want to drop it.
The most critical aspect of it that threw me when I started reading was that the Main Character starts off powerful, and is nearly a pinnacle of the meaning Deus Ex Machina, they are someone who has the abilities and power to resist and defeat most things that they can face and it somewhat throws that in your face without any major struggle, in physical prowess at least.
And that's where the story and style is greatest to me, because while there are combat situations they are rarely ever the main aspect of threat and intrigue to the story, but rather more political situations are. Where the biggest issue is often threats revolving around saving ones entire species, both within and without.
With the 4 Aspects of a review, the biggest issues are within the first Book I'd say, and as that's where the biggest issues to me take place, it's where I'm focusing my review. Besides the fact that I'm terrible at dancing around spoilers.
Grammar - The writing is good and punctuation is good, the issue with the grammar itself is that it feels very linear, in a way I find hard to describe. The pacing of the first book, the first half especially, seems to jump in odd ways at times that ties into the Story aspect of my review and I think is likely the biggest hurdle in my opinion for people to get through.
It felt greatly rushed within the first and improved just as much once the Second Book came about and the story expanded, I believe, giving the author time to slow the pacing down a bit which helped immensely.
Story and Characters - The Plotline has me invested, I want to see how characters fare, the good, the bad, and the ones where I cannot tell. There - Sirbobthe1stRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0One of the best novels I’ve read developed characters and a diverse plot. One of the best non human mc novel I have read. Don’t even start with how good the fight scenes are written there dynamic and impactful and full of emotion. I also like the fact that this isn’t a mc who sided with humans entirely.
- YSKJRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As a fellow MMA fan myself, let me tell you, this guy knows absolute ball. Even the very first fight pre-isekai is set up in such realistic manner—the old timer giving it one last shot at glory vs the rising up and comer—the sort of Jon Jones vs Aspinall or (for an example of a fight that actually happened) Ilia vs Volk fight. It’s the type of scenario that MMA fans have watched time and time again, except with the heightened drama of the MC actually passing. Thus far, the worldbuilding has been incredible in the first few chapters alone.
But what I’m most excited for is how the author expands on using the MC’s MMA background in a high fantasy setting. Real interesting stuff.
The magic system and racial hierarchies are also immensely rich thus far. And, best of all, the chapters clip along at a great pace.
Excited to see where this goes.
If the writing continues at this level of thoughtfulness—especially in how it bridges real-world combat theory with fantasy elements—this could end up being one of those rare crossover stories that appeal to both fight fans and progression fantasy readers. It's got grit, depth, and a fresh enough spin on the genre to keep things from falling into the usual isekai traps. - fatty cattyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0goated with the sauce for sure, give it a chance and you definitely won't regret it. here before this shit fucking BLOWS UP
the premise i would say isn't something too out of the ordinary. reincarnation and whatnot but the setting with the dragons is actually really interesting though and the pacing though a bit fast is absolutely thrilling, there isn't a chapter where i'm not bored.
but the author could definitely use some more time to develop the character more in the beginning chapters but you can see he's doing that especially after the whole fight with the kraken
a lot of the times i read reincarnation stories, they rarely feel "guilt" that they're actually in someone else's body but the fact that the MC actually considers this is actually such a great aspect of this story.
going to have to recommend this highly because it might turn out into a really impressive story
fight scenes and combat in general is actually very entertaining in the story which isn't something you find everywhere.the only thing i'd like to suggest is perhaps working more on the world building because i'd like to understand more about the world this takes place in perhaps more on the magic system and power system of the world? hopefully that will come as the story progresses actually really glad this guy came back to writing because i really liked saikou which i think he abandoned since it hasn't been updated.
glad to see this author is back because i do enjoy his pretty unique style of writing. hoping to see more! - Seal0591Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Found about this novel from a tiktok video, saw the cover and decided to check it out since it looked intresting and boy was i glad i did, this is one of my favorite reads of the year, highly recommend anyone to read this novel( I NEED THIS AS A BOOK SO BAD).
- TakeoMasaki889Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5I loved the premise of this book. With some minor polishing, it would be a 5/5, easily. Like this, I made some suggestions for improvement that can be implemented quite quickly.
Style: 4/5 - Energetic and bold, great sentence structure and descriptions. I propose to show more, don't tell or narrate too much. This is so far the largest flaw in the story. Also (and this is just my personal taste) but I think it leans a bit too heavily on modern slang and profanity. It sometimes clashes with the fantasy setting.
Story 5/5- Excellent premise. MMA champ dies, gets reborn as a dragon prince—instantly compelling. Strong emotional and plot stakes throughout. Love it
Characters 5/5 - Lukas is layered, Selene feels real, and Katrina is a standout. Some nobles feel a bit one dimensional so far.
Worldbuilding 5/5- Linemall is unique and vibrant. The dragon hierarchy and magic system are fresh.
Grammar 4/5- Generally solid, but some repetition, tense changes, and bloated inner monologue.
TLDR: This is a good book that’s trying to be great, that should be great, in fact! If you sharpen the narration style, reduce profanity where it undercuts tone, and shift more exposition into the world naturally, this can easily hit 5-stars. - Inkwell RabbitRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This is a First Impression Review. I only read the first 4 chapters and a future chapter for reference of where the author progressed in their writing
Let's start off by saying that the writing is real rough around the edges. Ryu is clearly new to the hobby/profession and that just fine. Sure they doesn't grasp filtering, show don't tell, and passive/active voice techniques, but how many successful RR writers actually do?
Do they head hop POV's, yes. GOD YES!
Do they actually put little commentary notes for the character instead of show the read that the character actually goes through it...yes.
So what does this writer do well? Why give him a 4/5 stars?
This writer has a wonderful grasp on 2 things
- Descriptions
- World Building
Right off the bat we are thrust into Julien, a MMA Prize Fighter that dies of a heart attack? I think. The fight scene has a lot to be desired as far as writing skill goes, but I'm a stickler for action. All the same, it gets your blood pumping and we are brought straight into this new underwater dragon world for the subsequent chapters. This is where Ryu FLIES! Their descriptions and world building are top notch. Are they Tolkein or Sanderson? No, but at the same time Ryu isn't working with the same amount of experience and knowledge those two had.
- As far as the future chapter I read...the author gets MUCH better at writing
Definitely give it a read! - IacereRoyal Road★★ 2.0The first seven chapters are pretty awful. I’ve enjoyed plenty of transmigration power fantasies but this guy starts as such a bland Gary Stu with everyone falling over themselves to say how great he is and honor him, choose him to rule…
It’s just written very poorly and to an immersion breaking extent. Hopefully it improves. - FenekkuKitsuneRoyal Road★ 0.5Always been a fan of non-human characters, as well as dragons. This story puts itself out there like it’s going to be that, yet it isn’t. At least not fully.
The start’s main issue is how inconsistent with perspective it is. It’s hard to tell who the main character is, who we’re meant to be following, as it seems to shift between the two characters. It only becomes clear when one character starts to die.
From that point, the story becomes riddled with time skips. Plot lines that could be interesting setup and then immediately discarded through being skipped over. MC was in a coma, so their body is weak and they need to train to be able to perform their duties. The very next scene shows them fully trained and recovered. An enemy that has plagued the kingdom, that needs to be rooted out. The very next scene has the accomplices already captured and being interrogated. A mastermind behind everything, that needs a plan to confront. Very next scene the mastermind is known and being confronted.
It would’ve been interesting to explore the world alongside the MC as they train, learning about the characters and how things work. It would’ve been interesting to see character interactions as they tried to root out this supposed enemy, to figure out who the mastermind is. But it’s all skipped over instead, and instead things are told through exposition.
I tried to stick with the story for a few more chapters, to see if things improved. But I went from one chapter talking about the MC trying to come up with a plan to face the newest threat, into the next chapter wherein he’s doing the exact same thing, except now he’s also only just realised the consequences of how he got to the world. This is supposedly after a month and some change, mind.
This is all not even talking about how the story seems to setup that the dragons can shift between a humanoid form and a draconic form, yet it never properly describes the draconic form. All we get is bulging muscles and increased size. It seem
