Description
THE LAST TECHNOMANCER One satisfying career crisis, one planet abduction, and one very opinionated robotlater,MauraEverharthasthirtydays tosurviveamultiversetutorialthat wantsherdead. Maura Everhart was having a bad Wednesday. Keys down a storm drain, a failing game shop, and a locksmith who charged like a surgeon. Then the sky split open, and every adult on Earth was yanked into a tutorial dimension for 30-days alongside initiates from 61 other planets. Choose a class. Level up. Don't die. Simple enough. Right? Except Maura chose Technomancer, an ancient class so rare the multiverse considered it extinct. Before vanishing the only other Technomancer reshaped the entire systems of reality. Now cosmic powers are watching, and not all of them want to see another one rise. Armed with an energy sword she barely knows how to swing, a mechanical robot companion with more attitude than a house cat on a Monday, and an INT stat that's growing faster than her ability to stay out of trouble, Maura has to do more than survive. She has to build. Innovate. Forge alliances with species she didn't know existed yesterday. And figure out why powerful beings are breaking the rules of the tutorial just to get close to her. In a world where death is permanent, magic is real, and morals are a thing of the past, the only thing more dangerous than the monsters in the forest is the secret Maura carries: she's not just a player in this game. She might be the reason it exists. The writing style is fun and a little bit flowery with good descriptions and no weird cut off points. The story is written in first person but in a well written way that doesn't feel odd or off.
The story so far is a standard premise with a couple of interesting tweaks and some good potential to be really interesting as it progresses.
In stories like this the main character can often be arrogant or stupid or overly prideful at the start. But not the case this time around. The main character is interesting and has the potential to be cautious without being overly arrogant or disinterested.
The grammar is good and the author seems to be correcting any mistakes found pretty quickly.
So far I am enjoying the story and will continue to read it :).
As a note I found this story from the Reddit post and read it immediately. I am terrible at writing reviews so I hope this comes across as how I meant it to. And this little note is definitely not just to pad the word count on this review out to meet the word count minimum - ED3NCRVFTRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I absolutely loved this book! I have to confess, I’m a huge fan of multiverse stories, and this one totally delivered! The way it blends spirituality and technology within an epic multiverse adventure is truly fascinating. I was hooked from the very beginning—scratch that, from the prologue! It’s a compelling, easy read that’s definitely worth diving into. Highly recommend it for anyone who loves a good mix of sci-fi and thought-provoking themes!
🤩 👍🏻👍🏻⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - HenryflapjacksRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This book has been so engaging to read so far. The author’s world-building and character portrayal really pull me in. I’m excited to see more of the conflict between old-world ideals and how people are trying to progress in this universe!
The main character feels relatable, and the interactions she has with the other characters feel so natural, it feels like someone recounting a conversation to you they actually had. - JE PayneRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Technomancer stories are my weakness, so when I saw the class in the description I was already in. What kept me reading was how well the author handles Maura as a character. She's not suddenly competent because the plot needs her to be. She's a sleep-deprived small business owner fumbling through her first real challenge, and her voice is consistently funny without undercutting the genuine stakes.
The system elements feel purposeful rather than stat-dumps for their own sake, and the world-building is confident without being overwhelming. Byte is already one of my favorite companions I've encountered in this genre, and I'm only a few chapters in.
I can tell a lot of work and effort went into this world. I love the naming scheme for everything like 'Bangle Berry Bush' It's clever and only helps to better establish an already quickly developing and vibrant world.
The reboot was clearly the right call. The pacing is tight, the foreshadowing feels deliberate, and the supporting cast all have threads worth pulling. If you like LitRPG with a protagonist who solves problems rather than just punches them, this one is worth your time. Already on chapter five and not slowing down.
The writing itself is well polished and easy to read. Nothing was pulling my attention away from the story. I'm so glad that I found this one. I have slammed the follow and favorite buttons! - KhuriRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great start to a story that has a long established theme, but not taking it immediately into a Death Game and letting your characters explore and learn is a good choice.
Description of environment could be cut down on though as the story progresses, but I understand why you are doing it. This is a entirely new World for these people to experience.
Can't wait to see how this turns out. - LilleneRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This starts off well, with good characterization and a lot of hints about the larger universe. It takes a little time to let you get to know other people and the tutorial location ... and then things go wrong, getting the plot moving again.
I like the characters introduced so far (other than the utter asshat, and that's by design).
Byte is especially memorable, a cute and useful companion. - ThrillianRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is a fun LitRPG with a very relatable central character. Maura is transported to a world wher magic and technology collide and finds herself forced to adjust to a LitRPG with a party of adventurers - and face many dangers along the way.
Maura's character makes for an interesting lead, especially as she reacts to the various trappings of the LitRPG world, such as stat blocks, and slowly becomes more accumulated to her new role.
The style is understated and engaging, giving a very readable experience without bogging down the reader with unnecessary details. Similarly, the action scenes are really fast and clear, creating a LitRPG that's perfect for newcomers and experienced readers alike. The concise grammar only adds to the experience.
Maura herself is a relatable character as she adjusts to her new world, and her interactions with her fellow travelers are also interesting. Her adventuring party all have unique traits, but that said, they don't stand out quite as much as Maura. Since the story is told from Maura’s perspective, they just don’t get enough time to shine. Still, this is a problem that can be easily fixed in future installments.
All and all, it's a very fun read as well as a great introduction to the LitRPG world! - TelRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This one right out of the box lands well.
Great world building, interesting characters who are well defined, decent magic, better fight scenes, and a fair pace and progression.
Problem is some of the scenes don't land well, the fungeons are a little bland, one of the monsters a bit of a unscary joke, and crafting is a bit shallow.
It's very enjoyable overall, and I am looking forward to the end of the tutorial arc to see if the author can find threir footing in a wider world setting. - WrecktifiedRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Ten chapters in and I am hooked. I read allot of stories on RR and this has already jumped onto my favorite list. Can’t wait to see what happens next. I love that this story has a unique twist of class magic and eager to see more. I am hoping to get to know more about the other characters as the story develops as well.
- darckshinRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5The story in general is not bad, but too many small things put me off to continue reading.
For example it was described when picking the sword battle forms were embedded directly in muscle memory. But when fighting the boar she is just flailing randomly. If the knowledge of fighting was like manual in her mind she has to first practice that is OK, but not how muscle memory works.
There are too many similar things in just the first 4 chapters for me to continue reading.
