- Eric VanderlipRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Last Hero of Allerion is the story Tara O'Toole who gets transported into her favorite MMORPG, the Swords of Allerion, as their prophesized hero. Can she prevent the scheduled doom that amazing fantasy world?
Style: a consistent perspective and very smooth writing. Dialogue is natural. Pacing is brisk and engaging. Descriptions are both detailed and succinct (a sign of great writing). No complains.
Story: Transported-into-a-game has been done before, but the execution here is absolutely stellar. You can tell that enormous care has been given to every facet of the setting. The realism of Tara's abrupt transition drives the plot.
Grammar: Near perfect. My need to edit went mostly unfufilled.
Character: Phenomenal character development. Tara makes a fantastic protagonism. The rest of the cast is just as vibrant and alive, video game characters brought to life. Their dialogue has personality befitting a fantasy world (“Oh by the blue wings of the ancient bats!”). Reactions and interaction feels genuine, and one can't help but root for Tara MacQueen, chosen hero of Allerion.
Conclusion: I highly recommend The Last Hero of Allerion because of the compelling protagonist and excellent storytelling. It feels almost like the reader is transported to the world of Allerion. It's an addicting read. - Matt FusionRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Okay so I am starting to really like Litrpg after reading this book. Coming from a non Litrpg person I must say it reads very good. One particular reason I was intrigued by Tara's story was because it reminded me of the wreck it Ralph film where the arcade was about shut down but Ralph decided he had to save his game, so he went into another game to try and save it the entire game universe. In this book Tara does a similar thing, but instead of saving her own world she is out to save the world of her favorite game. Pretty interesting.
Style: I really don't have any critique to give hear because the prose I found to be good and everything else reads well.
Story: As stated above, Tara embarks on an adventure to save her favorite game by being transporting into its world, and her development through it all is very rewarding to watch(or should I say read).
Grammar: Oh wow. Do not have any grammar mistakes that great to insert here. You will have no difficulty understanding anything.
Character: I don't know about everyone else but I kind of found Tara's interaction with the game characters to be funny(In a good way). The are plausible in how they respond to Tara and I think they make interesting character on their own.
Overall this is a very good book that I think you will enjoy if you give it a chance. - mathrianRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Last Hero of Allerion has thus far been an immense joy to read. The author does a phenomenal job of balancing between expressing Tara's excitement at finally experiencing Allerion with the often painful realities that come with that authenticity. I've really enjoyed how Tara is slowly learning how to temper her excitement and navigate this world.
What inspired me to write this review was the latest chapter, 39 at time of review, where Tara is overcome by sheer awe and joy at Allerion being real and her being in it. The was this scene was written spoke to me deeply and evoked that feeling of childlike joy & wonder of experiencing something magical. This feeling is what made me fall in love with fiction; that trembling overwhelming awe of experiencing a new world, of losing yourself in it and, just for a moment, believing that it was real.
Whatever happens I greatly look forward to the rest of Tara's story. - zertzaxRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm still early but Rosemundus is showing the old school rpg fun I grew up with. Tara struggles with the story she's played with the truth that things will not be scripted for her. Her decisions and the consequences of failure will come to play as she quests her way as the Last Hero.
- kidneythieveRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5The story is great and I like the mc, but the combat is just way too "health bars and stamina" for me.
I love litrpg's and gamer stories, but having hp points along with health bars that float over enemies is something that kills any interest I have in a story 90% of the time.
Characters very clearly dying and then just coming back to life? No repercussions for mistakes with that.
Magical fireworks going off that everyone around the MC can see? Everyone immediately knowing that the MC is the "hero"?
Tara had gotten just thrown into a real world with pain and suffering all round her, and all of this just broke all of the immersion I had built just built up.
Even with that, she can apparently just "save scum" her way through a boss fight. Meaning there will never be any tension in a fight.
ally gets hurt? Just die and restart.
You make a huge mistake and get yourself killed? Doesn't matter, used the Konami code and have 99 lives.
Not my story I guess, I had more to say but I'm typing on my phone and think I've put enough in my review already
