its definitely not my usual style of read, but once I read that it was sort of a world building prequel set up I was totally down for that. I like lots of descriptors but I usually prefer them more naturally blended, however I’m HUGE sucker for intense world building and and this book had such a good mix of heavy world building, intense descriptions, and actual character plot building stuff, that idk I just genuinely enjoyed it so much. the entire chapter about the animal kindgdom in the wastes??? TOP TIER. did I need the whole story of a long dead emperess? YES I DID.
also I love the characters, we barely touched them but I love them. I love that Anaya kinda sucks, like just not the best person idk it makes her feel more real. Paterniel seems lowkey evil and I love that. Kali lowkey gives the vibes of those AI robots in the movies where they become obsessed with the main characters idk lmaoo. All the other weird little side characters are also so interesting and I want to know so much more about them.
