The Hybrid: Chasing Destiny
Community Rating
Description
Since mortals first walked Archaicron, they have wrought chaos and destruction to change the threads of their fate. Foiled only by the very gods and spirits they sought to reach eons ago.
Abandoned at birth and raised by an untouchable, Ava was never destined to become anything more than an outcast among outcasts; to fight and die in the half-frozen muck of Spectermere. While Caeden, raised in the shadow of the Empire’s throne, was always destined to serve, but never to touch it. Even as a royal, his life would be forgotten to the pages of time.
But the gods and spirits do not care for the trifles of mortals, for the Ancients have returned, corrupted and cursed. If Caeden and Ava must fight or die, it will be for their cause and at their command. Destiny has always been theirs to stitch, and both must now chase its threads or become ensnared in the tattered tangles of its weave.

- CervineComedyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I’m really enjoying the setting of this world so far! It feels familiar but new all at the same time, and find the atmosphere spot on to match the tone. I really enjoy Ava and how she handles her struggles as well as her attitude! I’m greatly looking forward to reading more!
- LM_BussimanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Just finished Chapter 5 and I’m honestly impressed by how strong this story is getting. This story completely surprised me. From the first few paragraphs, I was hooked by the atmosphere and the depth of the world. Spectermere feels cold, harsh, and alive in a way that few fantasy settings manage. It’s not just a place where things happen, it’s a constant force pressing against the characters, shaping their decisions and survival.
Ava is an incredible protagonist. Her strength, stubbornness, and deep loyalty to Minervin make her compelling from the start. You really feel the weight she carries, not just the danger around her, but the judgment and rejection tied to her mixed heritage. The way she navigates the world, always on guard yet never fully defeated, makes you root for her constantly.
The side characters add so much texture too. Minervin is a standout, full of warmth, mystery, and quiet power. Malgorn is intimidating and unpredictable in a way that keeps every encounter tense, and Crastius is just the right mix of slimy and useful. The dialogue is sharp, and every interaction reveals something important.
The fantasy elements like the Panacean Fountain, the spirit whispers, and the return of long-forgotten creatures are slowly layered in, which makes everything feel grounded even when the story leans into magic. There’s a strong emotional core beneath all the action and survival, which really holds it all together.
If I had one small suggestion, it would be to occasionally break up longer paragraphs. The writing is vivid and beautiful, but adding a bit more white space would make it even easier to follow, especially during introspective moments.
Still, this is a fantastic read and I’m excited to see where it goes next. - ViUlRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story pulls you in right from the start. The action is fast-paced and tense, making you feel the weight of every decision the protagonist makes. The setting is eerie and immersive, with chilling winds, strange creatures, and an unsettling stillness that hints at something bigger lurking in the shadows. The ending leaves you on edge, making you wonder what’s coming next.
