I feel sure there will be films/movies, but the books are always better. Just started book four and it feels like the start of a new trilogy. Here is hoping (wizards don't hope they make it happen). A fast paced epic slice of life action fantasy with everything right about it. Don't miss out.

First review! I really liked the story, and the authors writing. The storry is set in a DnD like world were we follow "Hump" who is a beginning "low lvl" wizard. There is no overpowerd characters, and Hump gains power and ability slowly and realisticly. More character development and a sweet slice of life feel than a powerfantasy.

Absolutely loving this story so far. The world building, character development, power system, everything; its just perfect. Very good writing with no grammatical errors. Just give it a shot - its free lol.
Damn this review really needs to be 50 words long? Thats nuts. 50 words is a lot of words, like, a lot lmao. Thats like, what, 50 words? Jeez

Give this story a try and you will not regret it... Until there's nothing left to read. It is an excellent dnd themed tale. I felt like I was in the characters shoes. The magic system and power scaling is logical unlike a lot of stories. It has an intriguing plot and good character development.

Probably one of my new favourites of RR:
In this world the Gods choose a few, in their opinions deserving of their gifts, to wield the power of nature with but a gesture: Sadly for him, our protagonist is not one such chosen. Not letting the rejection discourage him, we follow Hump as a fledging Hedge Wizard, a human that takes the power of nature with study and effort, rather than as a gift. Which is a lot harder and less glamorous that what it might sound..
After his master found himself in the wrong end of an unexpected arrow, Hump graduates early from his studies and embark on a quest to find greatness, or food, a warm bed and some coin. With no clear goal other than glory, we are left to wonder what awaits for Hump in this world, as we get to know it.
This novel has; interesting well defined characters; a world full of potential and wonder; good flow in its style, which always leaves you submerged in the story and waiting for more; impecable Grammar, with the few mistakes that are made from time to time getting corrected right away by the author, and, most importantly, a great Main Character, with whom we get to enjoy the story from his perspective.
Highly recommended. I think anybody that's into fantasy would enjoy this novel.
PS: The author's cats are also really lovely

I had mixed feelings about this series at first, but it grew on me, and now it's one of my favorite ongoing RoyalRoad stories.  Both the story world and operation of magic are non-standard and interesting.  Together, they provide a nice set up for a slow-growth protagonist who isn't (yet) overpowered or overly important to the world around him.  It makes for a nice fantasy series.

As the title mentions, the MC is neither a Chosen of a God, nor does he have some super cheaty exploit/ an exploit that's disguised (barely) as the result of hard work/ some kind of macguffin.
He is a hedge wizard which is kinda like discount wizard without all the awesomeness that should accompany being one. His powers are limited, forcing him to get creative in order to stay relevant. This in itself makes the story much more interesting to read. Obviously MC will eventually become strong (not yet though). But the journey there is not simple or easy.
The characters are interesting, their interactions feel genuine and I'm excited to see where this story goes.
The writing quality is quite good as well.
Give this story a try and see for yourself what I'm talking about.

This is a Very well written story, easy to step into yet with an unpredictable plot and entertaining. Almost all the characters have depth, interesting origins and a personal moral compass.
There is something about Hump that makes him very real and easy to connect to, he is 'progressing' but not some powertrain, nor murderhobo, and is more directed by believable circumstances and cynical grumbling.
The hedge wizard is at the moment one of RRs better active novels in my opinion. And I strongly recommend it.

Took me 3 days from beginning to end, and 5 min after that I'm already in need for the next book to come out.
The world and character building is well done and although there are no surprises the story is really enjoyable.
cost me my sleeping hours but definitely worth it.

I've greatly enjoyed these first two arcs. The story is engaging, the characters are well-developed and defined, the world is exciting, and the writing is as good as it gets. Honestly, what more can you ask for?
Here's hoping the story will continue to reach greater and greater heights.
