The Heart of Delmar (part 1)

Description
A group of Refugee humans relocated on an alien world (The Moon known as Delmar M44) find themselves struggling to adapt, as one girl (Nicole Alekseev) faces the challenges of a lifetime. Something is different about her, and one maniacal overlord sees an opportunity and a target.
Meanwhile, a species war is on the brink between Delmarian and humans, as your favorite alien Overlord Gizzy tries to calm the shitstorm through any shady means necessary, including political eliminations, bribery and a billion dollar underground human lab-rat experiment.
Nicole must not only face her own inner demons, but her own heart, mental illness, and a literal 900 pound monster that seems to want her dead. It’s hard enough to fight yourself, let alone when half your loved ones think you’re insane.
Manipulation, love, betrayal, murder, thunderdome-style bloodsports, a proverbial game of human chess played by alien gods, and one young woman who seems to be right in the center of it all, asking, why me? What did I do? Why am I so different? What begins as a lifestyle change and a sudden budding romance she never expected, turns into a personal hell of insanity and survival, in this dark comedy adventure twisted around a love story gone horribly wrong.
Join us in the tunnels, bring a flashlight, I hope you can swim.

- Rae R GRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The characters were so fun, but I don't want to spoil it for you. I usually don't read sci fi, but this was really a fun read. It was exciting and a really quick read. I loved the romance between the leads. It was so genuine. My favorite character was Nicole. She was so relatable at least to me.
- tikiiriaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The grammar would benefit from a proofreader but it wasn't detrimental to the story. The story is a very hilarious space/monster/fear adventure with giant horned killer bunnies. The morality and sanity of many characters was a bit questionable but they made for a very interesting mix of funny and chaos. The world was great not quite what I expected from a moon but I understand the lack of cows and sympathize with the real steak desires. The alien culture battles were interesting and nicely based on their worlds. An entertaining story to binge.
- prissiRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The story is somehow described correctly in the blurb; but still one easily gets the wrong ideas. And one is thrown right into the setting, including inital confusion. But it is entertaining and soon draws you in.
Since it was apparently written by speech to text, there are some occasional wrong homophones and quotes for direct speed are often lost, especially at the beginning of paragraphs.
The story is multilayered and soon gets deeper. Certainly not a juicy alien romance, but of course they are adults. And not a space whodunnit but not that far off either. I have binged it in two days and was well entertained.
The space colony and science are believable. But, one thing, my pet peeve, is how earthlike some of the aliens behave, especially Vinn. Also, why should he have adrenalin? Why does everyone speak English? Why everyone can eat the same food? And there is surely better food in the galaxy than steaks ...
For that last part, I have to deduct half a star. Still, a very enjoyable read. On to the next volume.
