Description

A lot of stories begin with the heroes hanging. Typically that means with each other, in a tavern or at a festival, and not from a tree, but in this case it's the latter.

One day, in the port city of Kaimen, on the coast of the Odyssean Sea, the destinies of Ace, Riven, Halvor, Draxl, Galina, Cili, and Kai forever intertwine themselves as they are all gathered on the gallows for their execution. Though they initially work together to escape their shared demise, over time, these seven remarkable individuals form a close bond.

However, the past of each echoes in their ears, beckoning them to answer and face the demons lurking within, a call none of them can refuse.

This is the story of a found family facing off against the world together, and it all starts with a deal with the devil. Because when has that ever gone wrong?

I've chanced upon this book, and damn am I sad there are only ten chapters available for now. The thing that managed to draw me in was the cover art, which I liked, I'll be honest, but now I'll be staying for the whole book. If you don't want spoilers, skip the story part just in case.
I won't talk much about the story because so far, it's very simple and didn't get the time to develop: MC hangs, MC makes a deal with the Devil, and MC now has to go find a key alongside similarly hanged people, hence "The Hangmen" (really cool team name, by the way). But I'll come back to review this further once there are more chapters out, to give a more detailed view of the story. The story is very fast-paced so far, despite what the author says, (in ten chapters, we got every character for the group, two towns, and a fight scene) but we're very early in the story, so keep that in mind. The power system is a little blurry so far, even though it's pretty easy to understand without any explanation from the author. I'd still need one later in the story to confirm my theories, but it seems quite simple. I'll take half a star away for now, but if things work as seamlessly as they do currently, I'll probably give it back.
The characters are, in my opinion, the strongest point so far. There are seven characters, and each of them is very distinguishable and recognizable, be it the way they talk or act. Some are already annoying me, while I'm a big fan of others (Galina is just too funny). It's very interesting to see them interact with each other, and I'm eager to see how they'll develop in the future as well as what their backstories are. Seeing a group of individuals animated toward the same goal and cooperate is surprising since generally there's always competition or the like, but I didn't dislike that, quite the opposite.
The style is pretty good, as is the grammar. There are a few mistakes here and there, but I won't be taking any points off for that since I'm probably worse than th

This is a great story so far. Already you can tell the author has planned out an extremely vast world for his story. We get hints at a world filled with a variety of different factions, powers, races, influential figures, and social ills. Plus, we get to explore it with a fun group of characters whom I can best characterize as a D&D party akin to Vox Machina or Dimension 20. So let me break it down for you.
First Grammar, this is pretty simple to grade as the grammar is very good. No obvious spelling mistakes nor any glaring grammatical errors that make sentences. If the story is right, I willing to be understanding if grammar is 100% perfect, but there is no need to for this story. It reads like it was professionally edited (or at least edited by someone who had more than a high school education).
Style, I like the world and genres the author has set up. It is a fantasy story for sure with mythical beings granting powers, magic spells, and even skills. However, at the same time the story shows remnants of a world that once was with hints of guns, DNA, and some sort of cataclysmic event in the past. It adds a nice dash of sci-fi to a very fantasy setting. It creates a unique experience that draws you in and makes you want to explore the world in greater depth. Plus the author is always ready to add various hints and references to give the reader impression there is an intricate world with many secrets to discover.
The story is good, but in many ways, we are still in the early stages of the story. While one of the characters has received a grand mission from a higher power, there really haven’t been many scenes to get the readers and the characters invested in actively righting the world’s wrongs. That isn’t to say there haven’t been any sort of conflicts or challenges. The characters have had to fight and overcome a variety of challenges. In fact, with the traps, puzzles, and unexpected enemies it feeds into that D&D-esque feeling even more. However, it is still ear

This story has been incredible. It follows seven main characters and despite not fully delving into the specifics of each of their backstories, it is clear that each character has been thoroughly though out, including their histories. The world is also very interesting and, while clearly taking inspiration from other fiction, still very unique. From the magic system and its relationship (direct and indirect) to the divine, to the overall world as a whole with the various groups within and the hints at its history.
I’m going to outline each of the points in the advanced review, and that is going to involve some minor spoilers, but they will be clearly indicated so that you can try to avoid them if you would like to go in as blind as possible. I have given each point five stars, because they all deserve it, but there are certainly some aspects that are done even better than the others.
    Grammar:
For a story this good, I would be more than willing to accept some issues with the grammar. In this case however, I don’t have to, because the grammar is great! There are no major problems in the grammar and I have not noticed any minor grammar issues that detract from the story. This is particularly impressive considering the rate at which the chapters have been improved. I also personally enjoy the inclusion of words like “epithet” and the way words and phrases are used in the magic system (which I will go over more in the style section).
Style: As I said, I like the way the author has implemented their magic system. I usually don’t particularly enjoy the way chants are included in magic. Whether it be an ancient/divine language (that the reader can’t understand), a method for separating the main character and their “chant less” magic, and/or whatever other reasoning, it is usually boring or even detrimental to the story. However, I like the way it is done here because the magic is not chained to a very specific element, spell, or even ability. It is more so chained to the WO
