Description

[Volume I: The Midnight Candle] COMPLETE!

A cozy, retro LitRPG adventure, with a cottage-core aesthetic. Riddles, puzzles, and magic galore!

I dropped into an alternate dimension and need your help to navigate this odd world. I am to be an apprentice to a Sorceress. To do that I have to learn how to keep house, grow herbs, craft potions, and finally, learn magic! I have to solve riddles and puzzles to complete Old Toad's Grimoire, a mystical tome that will help me learn spells. With the help of my two tutorial NPCs (they prefer 'sidekicks' or 'sage advisors'), I aim to be the most powerful Sorcerer in the land! But first, I have to learn how to properly mop the floors.

I am really enjoying this story so far. It is an isekai, but with a good "in universe" mechanic which quickly wipes the slate clean. You know as little as the protagonist, and learn about the world together.  Initially,  the story is whimsical,  with exploration, puzzles and talking animals. Then, more dark elements are introduced, gradually revealing the magic world is much more complex and dangerous than it initially appears...
Some stats: Grammar is impeccable. Story seems to be well thought out,  with good pacing across the first book/story-arc. Characters are scarce in the first book, but even seemingly 2d characters often end up surprising you. Recommend!

What can I say except it is awesome, it has everything I love in a story, a unique system, a caster main character, a seemingly deep lore that the mc has to tease out as we go along for the ride, making me very curious and generating interest, also like the witchy feels and pagan references, very Razzmatazz.

I have been hoodwinked. Misdirected. Bamboozled, and quite possibly tricked.
There are some metatextual elements that really bring the whole thing together. A bit easy to miss if you don't check the character sheet. Anyway. I hope you enjoy the 100% definitely a slice of life romance story.
Admittedly, I should have seen it coming when the story started with the protagonist trapped inside a house that demands you solve puzzles to open doors. That's practically screaming where the story is going.

I was reading this for a light Litrpg but then I find that this novel is full of fantastic logica puzzles, I love games like Professor Layton, the difficulty is not too hard or too easy just 2 min of thinking. The story is a mystery tipe where the MC start with an amnesia and must find who and why is here. The style is fluid and light, I'm surprised that this novel is not yet in the rising star.

I can’t believe I am only now giving this story a review.  Apologies to the author for my lateness.  This is a wonderful book.
Grammar: it is a fabulously well written story.  The grammar and word choice lend to a good flow and carry you through without any jarring disruptions.
Characters: I like the main character.  Obvious strengths and weaknesses and the author stays true to them.  Of the supporting characters, they add as appropriate for their place in the overall structure of the story.  The villain is fabulous.
Setting: The world building and magic system are exceedingly interesting and the main character's gifts align with the rules that have been presented so far.  This is very imaginative work.
I recommend you give this a chance.

This story is heavy on the system. Be prepared for constant level ups, skill unlocks and various other aspects that readers of the genre have come to enjoy.
The story's first person perspective also helps to convey the game nature; the dialouge does feel like a rookie trying to go through an old school RPG as the blurb implies.
This one is for the hardcore system fans.

After finishing the first volume of this, I've certainly been left pretty satisfied. This fiction does a lot of things that feel instantly familiar to LitRPG readers, but they manage to feel fresh despite all that. This is a very system heavy story, as the entire first volume mainly deals with the character learning about their immediate surroundings with little other to interact with other than the system. The first volume maybe feels a tad like a long prologue, overstaying its welcome a bit. I look forward to what the actual proper story is going to be like.
It's the little things that make this - There are no blue boxes, instead the system messages are in a pleasant purple. Somehow that just made it a lot more calming for me. The reincarnations scene is also one of the better ones I've seen, and the
    horror twist
to the system is well executed.
Much of the riddles felt a bit too logic-puzzley for my tastes, as I prefer the classic style of "guess what I am". That however did not really hamper my enjoyment at all. The first volume even included some rather charming bits of poem and song, so extra points for that.

They aren't actually called tables but that's what I call the litrpg message things. I liked the way the fiction showed them. Isn't really entirely new but I like the way it integrates into the fiction as an whole. Personalities were fun enough to read, though the plot didn't seem too focused. 4.5/5 for now.

Honestly I started this novel with not much hope because I've read similar novels that quickly became boring or monotonus but this one is not only the exception but has a wonderful way of being both light hearted and warming to read but delves into darker tones and ideas to make the light all the brighter at the end of the tunnel. I whole heartedly recomend this book for people to try. It might not be your exact cup of tea but it is warm and soothing and makes me want to cuddle up and read more.

It starts off pretty abruptly, and right now i'm not sure if we're in a game, or an alternate world, but neither does the character. I'm waitinng for that mystery to come to light. I'm also kind of a sucker for romance. Im fact, right now I'm reading a Nora Roberts romance, lol. Anyway, I'm not sure I would call this story a romance, but the main draw for the character so far is the sorceress. The MC chose a star sign based on romance, and I thought he would choose something else. I liked the surprise. I'm also enoying the first person past tense nature of the writing.
I'm not typically a big LitRPG reader for hard stats, but if you like hard stats with lots of numbers and calculations, then you'll love this.
It's a good start and I'm introgued about the sorcerous. I'm excited to see where this goes, though I would like to sit in the character's headspace a little more. At times he spends a lot of his energy interacting with the envionrment, which is fine. I like action, but I want to know his thoughts and feelings as we go forward. I'm sure those will come as we get farther into this house of wonders. All the doors are locked, and to open them, he has to get XP. I like the reward system.
