Description
The Soulweald is no ordinary forest. Its monolithic Towers of Mourning hold the memories of ancient ArchFey—alongside the budding potential of new Fey yet to bloom. When a desperate wizard arrives to mend his fractured soul, he sets off a chain of events that ensnares Dahlia, a fairy caretaker sworn to protect the Towers.
Caught in a wager between Lady Nyxaria, Mistress of the Soulweald, and Vaelmir the Eternal, Dahlia is exiled to the mortal world of Nantes. Her only hope of returning home is to outmatch her bitter rival, Deborah, in mastering the Gloam—a twilight magic bridging life and death. The winner reclaims their place in the Fey Realms as the greatest necromancer Nantes has ever known, while the loser faces permanent banishment.
Thrown into a realm of fragile mortals, vengeful spirits, and relentless ambition, Dahlia must wield powers that threaten to consume her. Will she rise, her Tower of Mourning eclipsing all others, or fade into a forgotten footnote beneath the forest floor?
System: D&D/Pathfinder based. There be Spell Slots Ahead.

- ArkazielRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Disclaimer: I'm married to Jamie, so you might consider me biased.
Overall: The origin of Dahlia goes back to a bard played in our D&D games, so it's a soft spot in my heart. This version of the character is awesome, and I loved beta reading the whole thing.
Style: Jamie has worked a lot on her habit of telling vs showing, and I definitely felt it showed vs some of her earlier works. She flows in and out of descriptive prose into amusing dialogue effortlessly, and doesn't bother explaining things multiple times. If you want hand holding, you'll need someone other than the narrator to do it.
Story: A fairy gets bullied into becoming a necromancer on a world she has no real connection too, full of stupid mortals who quickly become power pinatas once the Glimmer system opens up to the MC. I love the temptation brought into the story by the Glimmer points, because like in real life, it's faster to gain power if you're an amoral asshole, but Dahlia still manages to make it without going cut-throat (so far).
Over-all the plot seems to be focused on the War of Thorns and Iron, and the past strife between Fey and mortals. I'm interested to see where this goes.
Grammar: Good with the caveat that it is what it is -- a fairly early draft for Royalroad and not yet professionally edited. If that's what your after, you probably aren't going to find a lot of it on royalroad anyway.
Characters: The strength of the book, in my opinion. Lots of awesome characters here that I found myself liking early on. Drynthor, the double shield wielding warrior is one of my favorites, but it's hard for anyone to compete with the utter-badassery of Xeras. Dude's an ancient noble fey spirit embodied in wooden armor/vessel, with a RGB spectral light and a wooden sword named Gloombough. It's hard to get more up my alley than Xeras, but Dahlia is the right amount of Kawai and maelevolent to be a match for the edgy Gloamknight. - KingddonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Hey guys, let’s go! 🌟 This novel introduces a fairy in the most terrifying sense of the word (stealing children, names, and dragging mortals to dance in her realm for eternity). This particular fairy has set herself (and others have set for her) the goal of becoming the greatest necromancer, both alive and dead! So far, it’s been a really fun read, with a character progression style that really reminds me of [ded5e]. The story has a solid progression system and world-building. The protagonist has a lot of depth. Yes, she’s dumb and inexperienced, but that’s intentional since the protagonist is a young fairy, which also leaves a lot of room for future growth. Her strength grows at a steady pace, although a little rushed in the early levels (which is to be expected in [ded5e] style). I truly hope the author takes this novel to its full potential. 😎✨
Overall Rating ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – As mentioned, the story has been a lot of fun so far.
Style ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – The writing style and progression have been excellent.
Story Score ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – The world shows great depth and backstory. You can tell by the character interactions that effort went into building the world.
Character Score ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – I might be a little biased here, but I love fairies, especially chaotic-good ones!
Grammar ⭐⭐⭐🌟 – Okay, let’s be honest, the novel could use a few more beautiful words here and there. It’s good, but could be better. - Randy.OrrRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I started reading this on a whim. I had ran out of updates in my follow folder. I wasn't expecting much. As I was merely passing time on my lunch hour, I had began to read absent-mindedly while I ate my lunch. Before I knew it my lunch was over and I struggled to go back to work. The world building so far is excellent and it pulls you in. You're immediately surrounded by believable characters even though there are very fantastical in nature. I look forward with bated breath to the future of this novel and the many hours of enjoyment I will get from reading it. Whatever mistakes I have found so far are not egregious but merely a few spelling and punctuation. I would go in so far as to say that those mistakes may not even be mistakes, but are there for a reason as flavoring in the text for the characters themselves. For the love of the fae and by all things holy in nature please keep writing this. Thank you.
- ranaki1967Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is an interesting story that balances world building with character progression.
The fey are true to fairytale character being devious and tricky to deal with.
The magical system is easy to follow and not over powered.
The man character is a blend of an antihero and a hero, and is quite funny.
