Description

They say death is a curse that cannot be treated by any priest, saint, or doctor in the City of Plagues. Gael Halloway would beg to differ. Gael is a brilliant but unlicensed doctor practicing medicine in the slums of the lower city, and he has never seen a good death. Toxic mist smothers the air, magic parasites turn people into foul monsters, andthe upper city barons hoard all the symbiotic systems and bioarcanic weapons for themselves, leaving the lower city unable to fend for itself. How is he supposed to make a living if his patients die before reaching his clinic? But when a young parasite-hunting exorcist stumbles onto his doorstep, half-dead and missing a partner to link up with her symbiotic system, Gael sees an opportunity to make a difference. Limb-worshipping gangs, mad plague doctors, and flesh-hungry ghoul cults? Screw all of them. Gael will rid his district of the wretched parasites, upgrade his clinic, and carve out a sanctuary in a city that has long forgotten the taste of fresh air. He’ll be the best damn doctor there is—and he won’t be able to do it alone. Update Schedule:Every Thursday and Saturday

I love the Bloodborn/Dishonored-like setting and the balance of the RPGish mechanics existing diegetically in the universe without the whole world running on video game logic. The chemistry between the main characters is fun. I’m interested in seeing how the characters develop and learning more about the background of the world.

I think what sets this series apart is just how inundated the world is with curses and darkness.Lots of fantasy series will have evil in the world, but the world itself is always resisting with the darkness hiding on the edges. Even in dystopic stories the average person is ignoring the darkness and going about their days like normal. This series however really captures a world that not only isn't fighting the darkness, but has been consumed by it and kept living anyway. From poisoned air or the casualness of human experimentation there's a society that really is not just living through a monster infestation, but capitalizing on it to keep living. We've seen edges of it so far, but the world is a truly big place with countless horrors to find and uncover.Seeing this through the lenses of of duo it has the satisfaction of a slowburn that keeps pulling you into the next chapter to not only see how they grow and achieve their goals, but also to find out the answers to all the burning questions of the world lore.In summary this series has a wonderfully dark backdrop that manages to come across as organic rather than contrived.

The story may not be for everyone. Being rather esoteric.
But what it is , is dark,  gritty, thought out and crafted by a master of his craft.
Which is rare on royalroad which is typically all ideas and arse holes.
Best thing? No "muh expect no harem" aka simp subjugation.
    Recommend 10/10.

10/10 story, love the character, the plot, the world building and how you absolutely create eldritch horrors, the exorcist system is really cool too, how it's linked between two people and all, but what really gets me it's how funny Gael is, being a mad doctor and a drunkard idiot somehow works well, no complains honest.

I didnt know i needed this. Medicine parts need some polish but very good. Every surgeon use koter for pass the subdermal thissues, lancet only for skin. Rightangle klemp for delicate work. I want some monster hunting, scavanging ingredients and more of the citys politics. I wonder why people dont leave this city, is wildernes too dangerous, can they escape from the city, from the poisonous fog?

Great story so far, characters are well fleshed out and I love the setting, giving me great Bloodborne/Dark souls vibes. Enjoy the way the characters interact with each other, and how even side characters feel well thought out. I like how the system is implemented, as more of a support than just an overpowered thing that makes every fight a breeze.
    Keep it up!

I've been able to read up to chapter 21 and I definitely recommend giving the Exorcist Doctor a shot! Gael is going to make the PlaguePlain Front one hell of a lot healthier as one of the 72 Warcrime experts / Plaguedoctors. Oh and his Symbiote Exorcist girlfriend is cool too I guess.

This is a very fun read! Some of the best character interactions I’ve read, mainly because the setting makes the interactions feel necessary. The dark undertones contrast and interact really well with the characters outlook. I alpha read the story and I cannot wait to see everyone else’s reactions! (Read her other stuff too it’s great)

Visual storytelling, unique style and gripping characters in a rich world. This feels like a story clearly thought out and full of energy and craft.
I feel like it could be a manga or anime very easily.
The author is clearly having fun and that matters. Thank you for the story.

This story is an absolute gem
I was drawn to the story first by my fondness for the plague doctor aesthetic, but in doing so I was ensnared by a compelling tale of a well-written cast, each with their own motivations and emotional issues (I did say well-written. Nobody is totally sane here).
The setting is a marvelous blend of Old England and some kind of gritty supernatural post-apocalypse that I absolutely adore.
The MC (as messed up as they are) resonates with some of my own thought process so we'll, I am going to be wearing a Plague Doctor mask this Halloween.
Bravo, Author. This is one of the greats.
