The Endless Expanse [A Progression Fantasy]
Community Rating
Description
They were the stuff of legends; fables from folklore; stories of the superstitious.
Since time immemorial, tales of monsters, whispers of magic, and the promise of power spread far and wide. Anecdotes of adventure blended fact and fiction, and though people tried, no one could verify the truth. There was a simple reason for that: the brave or strong favoured mysterious lands, and the weak or cowardly returned home only to be labeled as madmen. The rest... met an unfortunate end.
Jonah, Delia and Jermey learn of this truth when besieged by beasts, voyaging across unchartered waters. Their struggle for survival brings them to alien lands where monsters reign supreme in the sky and roam the earth like monarchs.
Danger lurks in every corner, and whether fools, or reckless, one thing is clear - the sailor turned adventures must become strong.

- DreamTicklerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is definitely a page turner. From the first paragraph, The Endless Expanse grabs your attention with vivid imagery and a distinct style. It is succint and short, but not bland and lacking. It strikes a good balance between descreptiveness and good pacing.
While it is on the slow side of things, the story keeps you hooked by leaving little hints and nuggets here and there of character development, exposition, and high octane action scenes. Which reminds me of this story's next selling point: the battle scenes. They are well-written, immerses you with high stakes, and keeps the tension going. Definitely an exciting read.
For Grammar, there is nothing to worry about here. You won't find many typos and you won't be distracted, so I won't be talking much about it.
For the characters, I honestly like Jonah the most, though that is to be expected as we're getting his POV most of the time. I did not mind Delia either as she seemed as a likeable character. And to be fair everyone in the main cast is likeable, and they have a lot of potential to develop as more chapters are rolled in.
Overall, it's a nice story that will definitely slay your boredom. Give it a few chapters and see if it's your cup of tea - FlossinduneRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Endless Expanse is (so far) a riveting tale of one man's multi-chapter fight with a mythological beast and the consequences of victory. I have not read anything else from the Uncharted Waters competition since stories on the high seas aren't what I usually go for, but I'm going to be keeping an eye on this one.
Story: Halfish of the chapters that are up right now belong to a large-scale battle and follows a few points of view. Against this type of foe, I can absolutely see why and I 100% support it. Of the other half, one is setup, and the rest is the repercussion of the fight and digging deep into the consequences of the character's actions. It really puts things in perspective, and I think it's a nice change of pace from the overpowered MCs that would be absolutely fine after the fight.
Style: The only thing I don't like about the style is the constant line breaks, but that's more of a Flossi nitpick than anything. There's nothing inherently wrong with the style overall.
The style flows very well, though. The words chosen evokes images to the mind, and I can clearly see the events transpiring as I read them, which is exactly what you want from the things you choose to read.
Grammar: Very good. Asides from a few things here and there, there weren't many roadblocks that shocked me out of the story.
Characters: The story follows the point of view of three characters, with a fourth that's present, and they each have a clear personality. They feel fleshed out with a common goal (survive) but with their own nuances and worries. Very three dimensional, and I look forward to certain reuinion. - Jack0fheartRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Endless Expanse is a captivating tale that is sure to leave you on the edge of your seat! The story is set on a ship, and the mood is tense as a storm approaches at the beginning of the book.
Overall score 5/5: The characters are well-developed, each with their unique personality and backstory, adding depth to the story.
Style score 5/5: The writing style is engaging and pulls the reader in, making it impossible to put the book down. The vivid descriptions of the storm and the sea battles are particularly effective and really bring the story to life.
Story score 5/5: The story is a thrilling adventure that takes the reader on a journey through dangerous seas and battles with mythical creatures. The twists and turns keep the reader engaged, and the storyline is well-crafted and exciting.
Grammar score 5/5: The grammar is excellent, and the writing is clear and easy to follow. There are no distracting errors, making the story flow smoothly and making it easy to become fully immersed in the tale.
Character score 5/5: The characters are well-developed and each has their own unique personality and motivations. Jonah, the protagonist, is a determined and brave character who will stop at nothing to protect his crew and defeat the beast that threatens them. Delia is a caring and supportive character who adds a touch of heart to the story. The supporting cast of characters also contribute to the story in their own ways, making it an all-round enjoyable read.
In conclusion, The Endless Expanse is a must-read for fans of adventure and fantasy stories. The writing style is engaging, the characters are well-developed, and the story is thrilling and exciting. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a page-turner that will keep them entertained from start to finish. ♥ - JoyBlossomsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0What an adventure out in the middle of the ocean! We get a mix of Greek mythology mixed with what feels like old Viking legends and some Judeo-Christian influences. This makes for a nice modern tale set in what feels like a historical fantasy.
I'd recommend this to anyone who likes stories that have an exciting scene right from the get-go, and even more so to anyone who is looking for a story based on ancient folklore of older England times. I wouldn't be surprised if there were also some Germanic influences that I had overlooked, too!
Style: There were a few scenes here and there that I would have preferred to be re-ordered, as a reader, because I felt it to have affected my progression in the story and the overall focus I could give to the plot. This is perhaps a bit more personal, as the writer's delivery is never meant to appease every impatient reader, but this is the main reason for the 4.5 rather than a 5 from me.
Story: A 5/5 category for me; the pacing is great, the worldbuilding is interesting and keeps the reader's attention without being either too descriptive or leaving the reader confused/needing to guess.
Grammar: Not much wrong here; though honestly, there were moments when the story was pretty fast-paced and I just read through it without really paying attention to the grammar, so even if there were issues, it's nothing that deters from the reading (excluding if you're a trained editor, yourself).
Character: The characters are great. Some have specific dialogue trends to make it easier to see who is who. There isn't really any that is unlikable yet, if that's important to you. I also personally like character-focused stories and understanding character personalities. There isn't as much development this early in the reading, but we do get clear molds of who is who, and there is the promise that more history will be revealed as the story progresses, so this gets 5/5 from me. - Luca DRRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I came here biased, and left happy. This story is quite unlike the usual light novel style of most rr productions, instead choosing a slow and patient pace, with a unique style and a voice of its own. It not only stands on its feet but shines as a small gem in the rough, sadly unerappreciated by the whims of the algorithm. Here's to hoping it will get noticed more and soon!
everything is impeccable. I had the luck of coming to read this story after some editing, and got to enjoy the final product after it had been polished. Nothing short of five stars on all fronts, from the perfect grammar to the awesome characters. The prose is like a tale of old, careful and immersive, sometimes letting us glimpse at something more, but never revealing too much.
There are no signs of the rookie amateurish passages that are otherwise ever present in stories on this website, instantly placing this piece of prose ten feet above most of what I've read here. And you, reading this review, should read this story too, for it will take you on a journey you won't expect.
I just loved how even with action scenes, I felt like I was connecting with all the characters of the main cast, noticing their interactions, living on the ship with them. The fantasy elements are introduced slowly and carefully, hinting at a wide range of possibilities without being overwhelming.
Suffice to say, I want to read more! - RighteousEggRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you are obsessed with the description of battle scenes, then this story could not be more suitable for you. The author spends four chapters describing how the main character defeats the octopus sea monster. You will definitely enjoy it. This seems to be a short story created specifically for the event? That's a real shame. I've only seen the tip of this mysterious world now. I really want to follow the main character to visit this world.
- VVerityRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A nautical based fantasy and adventure that opens us up with a world of thrashing tentacles and crashing waves!
Style
The author opts for short concise chapters with some amount of description but what really drives it is the interactions, whether in battle or simply through dialogue. This gives the impression of an almost hurried kind of movement, you are being pulled along the story as a craft upon the waves.
Grammar
Nothing is really noticeably wrong with the grammar.
Story
The story itself is more of tied together vignettes, brought about by the battle against THE KRAKEN and spinning off from that in flashbacks or afterwards. The ramifications of it are continuing to echo through the tale, and a noticeable overarching plot hasn't quite begun to show itself yet, but there appears to be a slow amount of rumbling towards one.
Characters
There are three main characters mentioned in the blurb, but as of right now Jonah seems to be the center. The sun of which all others orbit in some form. Jonah is a well written character, as well as Delia and Jeremy, but Delia and Jeremy's characterization appear to be tightly connected to Jonah while Jonah is allowed more independence. I hope in later chapters Delia and Jeremy get to stretch out their legs a bit more, and each get their time as the sun! - vorlefanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall: If you are a fan of mythology and odyssey style, then this novel is for you. You will follow the adventures of three characters across unchartered waters. Battling against monsters and unrevealing the secrets of fairy-tale lands.
Style: The description and narrative are really incredible. You can imagine each scene and behavior pretty easily and mainly, isn't tiring to read. The battle scenes are amazing, you could picture them in your mind fairly well.
Story: The story starts really well, amidst the fierce sea. I must say, I really enjoy adventures on a ship with the atmosphere of Pirate of the Caribbean (or my fav: One Piece).
Grammar: Excellent, a mistake there and here, but nothing to really point out!
Character: One thing I'm missing here is the little inner thoughts of the characters themselves — I mean, about amenities of life, to create connection in the common things. But all in all, they are amazing, especially Jonah, who gets the most attention from them. And Delia's development is refreshing I must say. And I need to point out Jeremy, I don't know the reason and maybe I'm wrong, but he combines pretty well with the music 'Jeremy - Pearl Jam'
Summary: I'm on. Will be following and wishing a lot of creativity and inspiration always for the writer.
Suggestion: I don't know if is in your mind to do it, but your story has a nice setting for you to create adventures themed with suspense and some bit of terror. And, one video worth giving a shot is from the channel, Archipel: 'toco toco Shinichi Sakamoto, Mangaka' - Wilhelm DuyRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The Endless Expanse as I read is the tale about the crew wandering the depthless sea battling endless mythical monsters with the limited power humans can possess. The story's progression is slow-paced for the whole experience as if you are the boat itself and battle against the monster yourself. Let's go further into detail.
Style: The story style is very descriptive, as a mutli-povs story. It is switched between the characters as they are distinctively different as there are serious Delia, grimace Jonah,...My only complaint is that some scenes in between seem rushed as if the time between the pov is drastically pushing forward one another.
Grammar: There are some minor errors but it doesn't affect the reading experience much.
Story: The story vibrates with many colors of emotions. Because of the slow-paced nature, each chapter feels like a small story being unfolded for the readers to experience each character's story. As mentioned before, some of it was rushed to pull another up. It should have taken a slower appoarch or mention a skip in time.
Character: Each character has unique personality and distinct perspectives on the same events so their views provide a piece to a larger picture. I fell in love with Delia's determination to keep everyone safe. - LadyFffireRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5It's a very good story, the only reason I didn't put 5 stars is due to my personal dislike for multiple lead characters, although I know that some people are fine with that.
I also like that the fight had some long-reaching impacts as being deaf will be an issue in battle.
The clear theme of oceanic exploration so far is also super cool, considering how scary the ocean is when thinking about all of the monsters that could be lurking beneath the depths.
I usually try to make my reviews a bit longer than this however I currently have a headache and i'm tired, read it! =w=
