- SK_PaydeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So I really liked this one.
The story follows an unreliable/unhinged narrator who is seemingly in the midst of a downward spiral in frantic guilt and self sabotage. I found myself believing him at points and completely not trusting his words in others. It had me on the edge throughout. I just binged it - happily.
The style is really stylised with such a great unhinged voice, really getting in the mind of the character. It had an angsty almost film noir feel to it - think Sin City crossed with You.
The other characters were surface level, and I liked that. I think it added to the psychological thriller aspect - we are following this psycho and he only knows others on a superficial level. We are more caught up in his thoughts and any added character building / POVs of the others would have been a shame honestly. Perfect balance!
Now, I've left grammar to last as I don't know. It started off okay, then I saw a few more errors, then quite a few more and it got to the point where I was questioning whether I was in fact the insane one. Was this intentional, to make the guy seem even more unhinged? Did this just need another once over by the author? Honestly, I still don't know. What I do know is that the grammar errors added to it. So, if it was intentional - well done. If not, what a happy little accident!
I would highly recommend this and am looking forward to whatever the author has in store next. It's bound to be stylish. - ft.JaydnRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So far that this fiction goes, I love it, there's mystery and a backstory that I like to see in the books I read. This book makes me wonder what'll happen that no other book ever made me do. Can't wait for the next chapters
- Aetherchasm ExplorerRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is an emotionally sharp, symbol-laced thriller with a noir heart and a lyrical voice. If you're into psychological spirals, guilt-drenched narrators, and dark romantic decay — you’ll be hooked by chapter one.
What works:
The prose is vivid and atmospheric, evoking dread, obsession, and heartbreak with impressive control. Symbolism is strong and consistent — mirrors, shadows, rain, and letters weave through the chapters with recursive emotional impact. The characters are standout: the narrator’s internal voice is raw and compelling, while Clara, Max, Leonard, and especially Tara bring layered tension to every scene. Chapters 4 and 5 deliver a near-perfect escalation of stakes, emotional rupture, and paranoia-fueled suspense.
Room to improve:
Chapter 2 lags slightly, with Ethan’s flashback needing a cleaner narrative arc. Some introspection-heavy dialogue could be streamlined to keep the pacing tight. A grammar sweep is also suggested to iron out small syntax slips and ensure polish.
Final Thought:
This serial is nearly publication-ready. With continued refinement, it could become one of Royal Road’s best psychological thrillers. It balances voice, character depth, and emotional weight better than most — and leaves readers eager (and unsettled) for more.
Recommended for fans of: Sharp Objects, Drive, Mr. Robot, and anyone who likes their fiction poetic, broken, and bruised. - LethalEmmaRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I really loved the way this story is told, it's very unique, however, it lacks a little in spreading the idea of the side characters, it only consists of the narrators point of view and maybe I'm wrong but with a tad taste from other characters views it would be easily top 5 novels on this site.
In conclusion, I LOVED this novel and I would suggest it to anyone searching for a good dark romance novel : > - The Writer MeaRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I haven't seen much of the 1st point of view. Rare but very usable if needed. The story is good and the flow carries the story. The world needs to be explained a little more. The characters are also well-crafted. A story worth reading. I recommend you give it a try.
