The Dragon Thieves

Description
When you’re desperate for work, anything looks like a good gig. But stealing a dragon from the royal family might prove too much for Janu and his crew of dragon thieves. Especially when they have to kidnap the princess, too.
With half the empire on their tail, a cart full of disgruntled dragon and a captive princess full of attitude, they just want to hand in, get paid, and go home. Their employer has other plans – plans that will strike a much stronger blow at the empire than one simple robbery.
Will they come through this with their skins intact?-[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
[Contains mild/infrequent swearing]
During the Writathon, I will post as soon as I finish writing chapters. Afterwards, I will reduce this frequency to once per week, provided all goes to plan. This will be a relatively short book – I’m aiming for 90,000 words overall. I have a suspicion it will end up shorter.

- OmnipresentCoffeeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Dragon Thieves is an excellent novel, a true hidden gem! I highly recommend reading it.
Grammar: Excellent, no issues here.
Style: The format is relatively standard, we have a third person narrative following the main lead Janu. There is nothing terribly unique about the prose, except its quality. The quality is that of a good published novel (something rarely seen on RoyalRoad); there is excellent variation in sentence length, word choice, and seamless transitions between events in the world and internal thoughts. The world building is immersive. There is no info-dumping and the reader is lead to an understanding of the world at large in a natural way.
Characters: I think this is the story’s strongest aspect. Every character has their own motivations, opinions, and personality which are all grounded in the world built in the story. This is what makes the story pop. Many of the characters have histories lingering about them that aren’t revealed to us from the get go. This provides the cast a certain amount of intrigue to each of their interactions, something that I’m all for.
Story: The story concept is unique and the pacing is great. We begin with Janu and his crew (Fraidun and Galnai) in the midst of a heist—for dragon eggs. After, we are set up with a classic “one last heist” scenario, but again, with dragons. This makes it better than your typical heist of course. Now, it’s not so simple as that, but I’ll let you figure out how when you read the book. I’ll all say is that it’s worth finding out, and looks to be going in even more interesting directions.
