Alt title: How to Dragon 101
Kill. Eat. Evolve. Repeat.
Jade was born wrong, as a magicless half-beastkin in a world ruled by power.
After a failed elven ritual traps her in a monster-filled dungeon, restraint stops mattering. She wakes up with scales, wings, and a body that grows stronger with every kill. The hunt feels good. Almost too good.
The only catch is that she’s becoming a dragon, in mind and body.
To escape, Jade must climb the dungeon’s food chain, indulging the instincts she spent her life suppressing, or die as prey. After all, humanity is optional. Survival isn’t.
What to expect:
- A monster evolution system, with Skills, Magic and Mutations- This is a weak to strong story and Protagonist needs to sharpen her skills instead of just making numbers go up.- Combat, power-ups, unique skills and mutation merges for powerful abilities
Current update schedule: 2/3 times a week (temp.)Patreon!- Support me on Patreon to gain access to up to 16 chapters ahead of the public release!

- SauravisusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Dragon Heir: A Monster Evolution/Progression is one of those stories you pick up thinking, “I’ll just read a chapter,” and then suddenly it’s 3 AM, and you’re ravenously clicking “Next.” Seriously, it’s that good. The pacing is spot-on, the world-building is rich without being overwhelming, and the protagonist’s journey is one you just can’t help but root for.
Each chapter feels like a perfectly baked cookie—satisfying, addictive, and leaving you immediately craving the next. It’s the kind of story where you devour one update in minutes and then spend the rest of the wait daydreaming about what’s coming next. The monster evolution and progression vibes are strong, keeping things fresh and exciting as the stakes get higher and higher, even if it's interspersed with cliffhangers here and there.
What really hooks you is the balance—intense moments of tension, bursts of triumph, and just enough mystery to keep you guessing. It’s fun, it’s fast-paced, and it’s packed with all the juicy fantasy goodness you didn’t know you needed.
Bottom line: if you’re into progression fantasy or just want a wildly entertaining read, The Dragon Heir will have you hooked. I’m counting the days until the next chapter drops—because, let’s be honest, once you start, you can’t stop. I couldn't at least. - ConundrumEffectRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall

The story starts a a great spot in MC’s life. Context and exposition set the plot line up for a myriad of outcomes. I cannot wait for more of this to come out and I am looking forward to all of it. - sarafiaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I signed up for an account, because of this novel.
A phenomenal work. The main character is fun, sassy and shows a human side to the inhuman suffering, thoughts and problems. She is funny, engaging and dare I say "Aggresively Bri'ish" . The flow if the story is perfect, it easily and flows, using advanced sentance structure, gramer and other literay effects to maintain a constant flow that engages amd sucks you in.
The stat blocks are nicely spread, not used as filler, and provide engaging progression. While the evolution of her progress in entertaining and on point.
I am aware I am rather vague and that's to avoid any spoilers. But honestly the only thing I could ever have wanted more from this, is polls, it's been fun for me to read the various choices she is presented with, and pick what I would go for, and what I think she would, and how often I get it wrong.
Now for a breakdown.
Style.
5/5, the story is engaging, and while it follows the genre well, it has subtle changes and nuances that are highly enjoyable. The writing style has flow and structure that is a pleasure to read.
Story
a regrettable 5/5
regrettable? I wanna give more.
its amazing. Honestly. Jade is engaging, witty and fun. The world is fleshed and feels alive, with just enough info sprinkled in to never feel bothersome. I am still within the first 100 chapters or so, but thus far, i adore the story.

ok. Admittedly I am far from an expert. But i find the story easy to read, well spaced and without any jarring wordig or structure i often find. So 5/5

I love her. Jade is great, the other mentions are all living characters, showing complex emotions and thoughts that give subtle hints and flavour to the story.
Finally. Fantasied work by the author, and truly deserving of a high rating - TheBORoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0MC stats of slow and takes a while before transforming. But it gives her character good depth.
This also lets you see the change of thought pattern before and after transformation.
The Deus ex machina could be introduced earlier. This way it almost feels that it is just there to solve plot problems. - Joshua AaronsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Im loving this fiercely its a fun world where the advancements are to look forwards to. If I had to pick something I would change, it would be the repetitiveness of some subjects. Like Lottes stubbornness or explaining a skill in her mind while the new skill description is right in front of her. It just seems like a poor use of word count and makes me want to skip the chapters until she decides. Everything else-- totally enjoying.
- SPEERoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The first is introduction to the character and the world, this is fairly well done. There is a moment that makes you question the sanity of the MC, but with more context later on, it does fit. *shrug* (trying to avoid spoiler)
Anyway, the writing style is fun, the monster evo crawl is fun, the magic is fun!
One of the few(along with Chrysalis(the ant one, not the HFY short story)) that had me engaged with the plot outside of the hyperbolic chamber that is the usual Kill>Consume>Evolve>Kill etc. - ir0nang3lRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5When you are given a monster isekai/reincarnation/other story we usually only have a few options we are given from sociopathic power fantasy where all problems can be solved with the power of friendship(minions) and excessive force, or those stories where someone wakes up as a slime or something small and has to work "smarter" against an overwhelming enemy that is too dumb to function properly with what is essentially common sense and lucky breaks that happen every other chapter. I would place our spunky salamander in the interesting sweet spot between these two, she can frankly be considered overpowered but in this story that is fine, the antagonists also fall into this role and is more or less used as a way to filter out the meaningless fights for the interesting interactions while forcing her to use her head against a somewhat competent enemy that acts very dumb in some situations because they are top of the food chain and who can honestly expect to fight a gecko with humanoid intelligence when this isn't a common occurrence. one of my grips about these types of stories are when the mc obsesses over a human form for the sake of "keeping my humanity" and get's it handed to them in 20ish chapters and let's the author to ignore the monster aspect of this story entirely, our lizard here does admittedly want a humanoid form but for an actually good reason, meeting up with her family to let them know she is alright even if she is very comfortable in her glorious new form and we can see many times how much she appreciates it even if she can clearly seeing her new biology messing with her thought process as being a oversized iguana would give anyone an ego. Speaking of family we are given occasional glimpses into the perspectives of our antagonists, previously mentioned family who misses her, future side characters/antagonist possibly on rare but well measured pacing.
for the setting and other stuff such as systems and magic I'm not going to bother grading how the magic - God of ReaderRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0the story begins in a clichéd way. a young girl in a magical world who has no magic and is bullied by other girls totally deja vu. but hey it's the beginnings, it's very well written too. so why is the series so good? because the follow-up is just magnificent and with a unique system that I have never seen (really never in my case) of mutation targeted by organs. and especially the personality of the mc, she talks about having known them destroy the life of it's a stalker but not wanting to hurt them having a (severe) addiction to poison without forgetting that she is probably a cannibal and enjoys doing experiments on subjects living with deadly poison that anyone would rather die than touch it. so yes I advise you to read it and give it a chance
- FranglepopRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0It seems like an amazing story with a well thought out and familiar monster evolution system. The literal only reason I’m dropping this book so fast is because I cannot stand to read in a constant British dialect. So if you can stand or even possibly enjoy reading like a brit then you’ll love this book
- AloofscarabRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Early yet but it seems solid! Writing is decent, though the MC sounding British feels a little odd to me. I’m going to guess that since she had memories/dreams of things from Earth that she’s been reincarnated into her new world. Though right now there are a lot of open questions.
the system kicks in at chapter 14, and looks good so far too. Simple enough in that it has skills and mutations as well as stats. I have questions for the way levels work, but those will probably be answered as the story progresses.
