Description
Banished for the murder of his master, a lone Astronomer has set out to deliver a written history of his School to the ancient city of Calrathia, home of all knowledge. None have attempted to cross the frozen wastes in three centuries. And in the bitter cold, worse things than scavengers haunt the desolate trek.
The Domes of Calrathia is a Sci-Fi/Fantasy mixture set in a post-apocalyptic, pre-historic civilization. The story is for those who desire an alternative to exhausted fantasy tropes and genre conventions.

- JDocSauvageRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's good fam. Picaresque Dying Earth adventures of defrocked Space Jesuit with a melange of Hastur and Sarnath for sauce. 10/10 will back the KS for dead tree.
In a sea of system and progression fantasy paint-by-the-numbers copy-pasta, you owe it to yourself to read something in conversation with Appendix N instead of Crunchyroll. - MPM-GCPRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The 'Domes of Calrathia' takes place in a technologically advanced distant past. An interesting setup, and one that I think the author made good use of. The hero is competent, but not invincible either. More importantly, he's an admirable person. You will quickly sympathize with him. The story itself is full of philosophical undertones, but I never found it intrusive or gratuitous.
- Mr. Mild-ManneredRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very good first half of a duology. I can't wait for the sequel!
A very original and engrossing fantasy world. The author does well to fill things in slowly over the course of the novel. The focus is instead on the protagonist's journey and his emotional and existential trials.
I love that it isn't a standard Tolkien ripoff. Very interesting world-building and I was truly surprised by the unique creatures our hero encountered or spoke about.
Very importantly, I feel Domes of Calrathia captures the zeitgeist of our age. The sense of melancholy and loneliness. The certainty in the minds of many that the greatest days of our civilization are long past. That our current society is in decay and and lives in the shadow of what came before.
Sorry if that's melodramatic, but that's what I felt reading it.
Anyhow, a great novel! A competent and heroic protagonist! Cool and unique creatures!
I can't wait to spend more time in this world!
