The Demonologist
Community Rating
Description
The year is 1848. London is a hotbed of supernatural activity, with new cults and covens popping up day after day. The Inquisition, stretched thin, cannot spare enough Inquisitors to properly stamp the rot out. But where a sword fails, a dagger may succeed. Enter the Demonologists.
Join Edward, a jaded street urchin, as he is plunged into an unseen world, full of magick, angels, witches and occult rituals.
Dark, victorian occultism-based progression fantasy. Bit of a slow burn at first before it gets crazy. Posts at least twice a week
Author Note: I draw from western european christian demonology, angelology, and occultism, though the other abrahamic faiths might also sneak in.

- Blind_WatcherRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Most of the cooler magical shenanigans is currently reserved for the prologue, but I liked what I saw and am looking forward to more as the stroy progresses.
Grammar: The grammar is pretty solid. I don't think I caught any mistakes on my read through.
Style: There are a couple of narrative shifts in perspective throughout, but I think it is handled rather well and achieves a specific objective. Switching from third person to first gives us some insight into what Ed, the MC, is thinking in relation to his immediate environment and recent events. While the third person perspective allows the story to flow more quickly through action scenes and generalevents.
Story: Still early days, but the prologue lays some interesting groundwork for what lays ahead. Based on what has already been released, I found the exposition to be well balanced with the general world building. neither was overly excessive or heavy handed, and I feel like I have rather good grasp of what is going on despite previously only posessing a rudimentary knowledge of the real world setting.
Character: Not a huge amount to work off of thus far, but I haven't seen any problems with the characters. Ed is an interesting character to follow. His relationships with other urchins really helps define his more positive traits. Urchin with a heart of gold might be a tyope, but I like it. It will be interesting to see how Ed matures as the story progresses. - CashewRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm really enjoying this so far. First off, it's well written and there aren't many grammatical or punctuation errors to trip me up. Honestly, it's really well written. Sure, I could nitpick and find minor mistakes but one edit and this thing will be shiny.
this normally isn't my genre but I feel like it is written in an accessible way. Sure, there are things that I don't understand right away, but they are explained later. While it's still fantasy, it feels grounded enough to be read and enjoyed by me.
i like Ed. He feel like a real person to me and that's important. Too many times, I see characters thah the author forces me to like instead of inviting me to like. It's well down here with Ed.
Sometime the whole demons and high fantasy stuff can be overblown and just, I dunno, annoying, but it isn't here. Ed literally talks to satan and it doesn't feel weird so props for that.
to be quite honest, I don't have a lot of negatives to say right now. The style is nice and the all caps or bold font seem appropriate when used. It's a dangerous game playing with bolds and caps so be careful. Don't overdue it!
so far, an intriguing world with interesting characters and I have a lot of questions! i can see a lot of ways this story can go and I'm looking forward to what the author comes up with!
I'll be following closely and may alter my review later! But so far so good! - srwoodsRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0There are only a few chapters out as of this review but it has a solid start and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Style: The story flows well and I enjoy how everything is described in the third person with a few first-person thoughts from the MC to let you know how he feels about the world and whatever situation he's in. I know not everyone likes it when an author switches from third to first person but it works for this story.
Story: The setup is good so far and it leaves me wanted to read more of it. I'm a binger and don't normally read stories with so few chapters.
Grammar: I didn't find anything wrong with the grammar.
Character: I like the MC he's being mixed race and an orphan puts him at the bottom of mid nineteenth century London society but he doesn't seem to be bitter about it. It will be nice to see how he grows.
Overall: While I’m I don’t normally like stories set in our world I like this one and I'm going to keep reading it. I'd definitely recommend it so if you are hesitant to start give it a chance you won't be disappointed.
