The basis of the story seemed an interesting one. An immortal vampire demon-lord in a child's body and the comedy tag hinted promises that it would be a funny read.
Unfortunately, I was left underwhelmed. The demon lord (Arias) not only looks like a child, but also acts like a child. There's no sense of hidden age other than when he openly states (or rather, when he thinks) about being shocked that she thinks he's a child. This could be a facet of his personality but all we see is a doll of a child that goes along with whatever is suggested. There are thoughts framed to suggest that he isn’t happy about it, but… that’s all we get. I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be funny that he just goes along with it, but it comes across as bland and uninteresting.
The woman that takes him in also lacks personality. We're given snippets of her thoughts but all of them seem framed to explain what she’s going to do next for the boy. The author never expands on this to explain why she takes in the boy. The only emotions from her seem to be vague happiness or vague surprise and as a result, both the characters come across as entirely flat and lifeless.
In terms of style, the story reads more like a script. There is very little information given that isn't dialogue. How old does the child look? I have no idea. How old is the woman? I have no idea. In my head I had assumed that she was older but then she acts like a teenager when visiting her parents.
Because of the disconnect between myself and the characters, I didn’t find this an amusing read. Either the author hasn’t expanded into the comedy tag yet or the jokes just didn’t land. Other readers will have to discern themselves whether this comedy is for them, especially given how subjective humour is.
