The Cycle of Hatred: A Naruto Insert

Description
[A Naruto Self-Insert as Naruto Uzumaki]
They say you should dig two graves if you want to go looking for revenge... so, it's a good thing I've already died once because the delusional one-eyed maniac that railroaded my life is going six feet under, one way or another.
You see, this is what happens when an ordinary guy is reborn as a not-so-ordinary child and is forced to shoulder the world’s burden for his survival.
Luckily for me, saving the world and revenge are just two sides of the same messed up coin.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
- Meaningful growth that feels realistic, fleshed out, and above all: contributes to the narrative. There'll be no gaining strength just for the cool factor even if the strength Naruto gains can be cool.
- A slow-paced story—it's just a quirk of my writing. I enjoy fleshing out characters, exploring their minds, and attaching them to readers, so that when it comes to the conflict and consequences, I can deliver the maximum emotional effect.
But I understand it can be frustrating sometimes. I've been told my story is one better binge-read in the earlier stages.
- Slight tweaking of the power system & world. Full disclosure: some of my changes to the world are inspired by or are either directly taken from "Naruto: The Outsider's Resolve" by FictionOnlyReader. The reason is that it's something that's come up in our discussions regarding worldbuilding in the first place.
Not ALL changes, but a fair few. I'll try and keep the spirit of canon in mind as well.
We are friends, I'm not a thief... at least, not a mean-spirited one anyway.
- I'm ignoring things from Boruto because I want to separate this story as much as possible from the world-eating, planet-hopping, numbskulls that are the Otsutsuki.

DISCLAIMER:Barring my OCs (Original Characters), I do not own any of the characters in this story nor do I own the rights to the ‘Naruto’ franchise. I am but a lowly fan, expressing his love for the stories that he grew up with.

- 1bhigpackRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I’m 16 chapters in, and as a longtime Naruto fan and avid fanfic reader, I have to say: this story’s unique narrative direction is seriously impressive.
It’s a refreshing, bold take that still feels true to the essence of the world while carving out something entirely its own.
Hats off to the author, this is quality work. - AvidReader2425Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0So far, I am early on into the story, but I have to say that this is a very well written and well layered fanfiction. I feel like the teacher of their character here, Naruto that is the reincarnation of someone else, is very realistic, and responds to his environment in a believable fashion.
I also like that we are able to see events from other perspectives at times, so that we can understand the reasoning behind some of the actions of other character characters. Even if we might not condone or agree with those actions, we at least are able to see where they are coming from.
the other main side, cast of characters are also very well written, and I like that the butterfly effect is pretty noticeable, even if it isn’t massive from the get-go. There are very understandable changes that happen, and the main character isn’t just following the script from the anime or manga. in so much as as possible when he is at such a young age, since he’s pretty much doing his own thing anyway.
Overall I would say that you should give this story a chance, since I think most people should enjoy it, and if it’s not your cup of tea, at least you gave it a shot. - E.star.lisRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've read hundreds of Naruto fanfics. It's hard to find a really good one. This story deserves to be familiarized with it. It's well written. I like the way the main character is characterized, as well as how the other characters are written. The dialogs are interesting. The fight scenes are written very well, dynamic. I hope for regular release of chapters) Good Job!
- HavrothRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really liked this story. But I'm terrible at writing reviews so take the stars please and thank you. I enjoyed watching the mc grow into his position. This is a reincarnated as the MC story, but other worldly knowledge doesn't come up too often, they definitely have more vibes of what will happen rather the details. It's also satisfying that most of the changes are caused by MC having a different personality then Naruto, and the ripple from that.
This fiction generally does have the issue of children not sounding like children, though that is standards for the genre, and is a plot point in early arcs - comcom-Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0never reviewed but here you go:
Slow , but good . Loved a bit of it , liked a lot , hated some POVs that were not at all needed (village chief and some of asumas)
hope you don’t drop it . Great job on fleshing and the cast . - ColtonEverettBlackRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5(I’ve read this story on EPUB. My Royal Road chapter and read time aren’t accurate to how far into the novel I actually am, which is significantly further)
I think this story was pretty good for a while. I’m not sure how much I really like the protagonist, and the voices and tone of the side characters could be blurred or sound similar quite often. However, I was still entertained until the end of the chunin exam arc, where everything afterwards takes an immediate nose-dive in quality.
The events, dialogue, and overall tone shift to a cringier, weird, and overall strange direction that feels like a qualitative downgrade compared to the story it was. I’m not saying it was perfect or even great before that, but it was entertaining to me.
Kushina being revived with the reanimation jutsu wasn’t bad, but the entire atmosphere, tone, and overall story and vibe between Naruto, her, and everyone else afterwards was just weird and it wasn’t good at all. It was terrible. The writing, the tone, all of it. What makes this so much worse is that the entire Chunin Exam Arc BEFORE this event was actually really really good, which makes this disappointing shift even worse.
To me, and from my perspective, the entire story goes completely downhill from here. Sasuke being recruited to the ANBU doesn’t make sense, seeing as how Itachi very obviously was already holding Danzo back from doing so in Canon, and the story showed no shift from that. The Akatsuki entering the leaf village was never even shown, nor was it even possible within the timeframe of the invasion. And worst of all things, Naruto’s entire personality just became terrible. Maybe he was already like that, but just toned down, but whatever happened after the events of the exam, he became extremely unlikable. The relationship with Jaraiya isn’t that great. Tsunade’s personality and character is bad. The events in the village to get her to become hokage don’t make any fucking sense either (when the akatsuki come). First, the - SageofloreRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Its decent if you can get past the premise of the story and forget how it started. Like just forget that he reincarnated and instead just think that Naruto somehow knows a lot more stuff. And is a lot edgier.
Otherwise the store is pretty good all things considered.
Could use some justification for why the reincarnation plays no role in the plot of this fan-fiction though. - SiliconWolfRoyal Road★★★ 2.5TL;DR: The story is sticking too close to canon without explaining why. The entire point of having future knowledge is to use it to make things better. And that's not happening.
Style: is fine. No complaints. 5/5
Grammar: is fine. No complaints. 5/5
Story: ....meh. By sticking so close to canon, I can neither praise nor criticize some things. But the changes that are made and the expansion of details not found in the anime do fit well. 5/5
Character: Here is where things go way off the rails for me. Now before anyone freaks out at my negativity, I do plan to change my review if things start making sense. But as of now, I very much disagree with what we have been shown.
As things are now, I can't help but see a mc that refuses to take risks to save others. This apparently-selfish mc would rather risk his own death during the chunin exams instead of taking a more intelligent risk and exposing earlier plots that weakened the Hidden Leaf village. 1.5/5 stars because all of the characters EXCEPT Naruto make sense.
In summary: I deeply dislike this mc for not trying to save lives. His pointless attempts to save himself are only causing him to land in more danger later. I will change my review if the author has a good reason for all of this preventable death. - Erzherzog_KarlRoyal Road★★★ 2.5Overall, TLDR: A tropey smart/strong Naruto story that for some reason is an SI that refuses to take advantage of his metaknowledge. Canon rails till author fiat pushes the story off the rails, not due to the actions of the SI. Also, boring dbz battles.
Style:
It feels like the whole story is too much tell and too little show. There is nothing wrong with telling things to the readers. In many cases, for brevity sakes, it makes perfect sense to go that way, but here it feels like it’s too much.
What people think, is shoved into your face. What people meant when they said something, is shoved in your face. Their motivation behind it all, shoved in your face. The writing lacks subtlety and should take into account that most readers are not a couple of four-year-olds.
Then there are the frequent pov changes. Nothing about them feels well executed. Their placement is horrible, usage leads to head scratching and the point of it all is just to explain truly everything to the “dumb” reader.
For example, cliffhangers are followed by pov changes to completely unrelated events and after the build up tension is gone you switch back. Or a point is made, explained and then comes the pov change to really hammer it into the head of the reader. You have scenes that are literally shown two times from different point of views.
Story:
The pacing is horrible in the beginning and then it gets somewhat better. There is the aforementioned issue of cliffhangers followed by unneeded pov changes, but the pacing is overall bad. For example, we are dragged through a slow academy arc that boils down to a boring training arc and just when something interesting goes on we start skipping years. After going through multiple academy years in detail.
If you’re familiar with the classic abused Naruto tropes and common points for Naruto suddenly being smart or strong, you will see nothing new. Honestly, it’s so tropey, I expected the rampaging yearly mob to appear at any moment. There is nothing new or - jauRoyal Road★★ 1.5Angsty fanfic with angsty characters. It's like I've entered the head of a fifteen-year-old teenager. And, everyone is so... gentle, as if they were not killers for hire, but graduates of a boarding school for noble girls... And the novel is also a typical "railroad self-insert fanfic". Nothing changes and follows the canon rails.
