Description
In the slums beneath Veston, Kael fled before his mother's body grew cold. No sun. No flowers. No hope. No dreams. Winter and gang lords buried them all. "Pray to the gods and endure for a better tomorrow," his mom said. Why would he pray to the same gods who denied him peace? Who thrust him into this nightmare? No, he'd carve a way to Veston with his own hands, and it started by breaking his promise to his mother for survival. But the job for gang lord Garrick Vane went wrong. He was left for dead with nothing but a ledger salvaged from a submerged temple. But he refused death. "I persist." Two words that awakened a forbidden power, an unlicensed truth anchored to belief and paid for in the warmth of his most precious memories. Now a heretic hunted by priests who burn the unfaithful, Kael discovered the ledger tracked everything: his stress, his anchor, the price he had already paid. Every choice stresses his truth. And if his anchor breaks, he wouldn't just die: he'd become something worse. What to expect: - Analytical main character who thinks his way through problems. - A deep, original system to decipher along with Kael. - A lore-rich worldbuilding with its own religions and epochs to discover. - Truths that aren't free entries on a stat sheet. - No harem Length: 1,600 – 2,000 words per chapter. Schedule: 1 chapter daily.

- _Zee_Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0For the most part, the story was very enjoyable. It is written well, the premise is interesting, and an underdog story is always compelling when handled properly. Watching a character begin from a disadvantaged position and slowly work their way forward creates a strong sense of investment for the reader.
At one point, I was concerned that the narrative might make Kael overpowered too quickly, but the story instead keeps the progression slow. This ends up being a strong decision, because it keeps the tension alive and makes every bit of growth feel earned rather than handed to the protagonist.
The power system is also interesting, particularly because of the constraints and limitations placed on it. What initially appears to be a straightforward power-up later reveals itself as something that can actually restrict Kael, especially when it conflicts with the values tied to his mother. That twist is a clever piece of worldbuilding because it introduces moral boundaries into the mechanics of power, making the system feel more thoughtful and layered.
Some elements of the story occasionally feel a little rushed or convenient, particularly in moments when characters appear exactly when needed or extend generosity that is difficult to justify in a setting where poverty and hardship are otherwise emphasized. A bit more buildup or contextual explanation in such moments would help them feel more grounded within the world.
The core of the story, currently, is pretty simple: it's an underdog progression litrpg fantasy. It's barebones for now, but I am hoping for great things from the author, so it doesn't affect my overall rating.
Aside from that, much of the novel is handled very well. The world feels lively, the characters have personality, and there are enough intriguing ideas to keep the narrative engaging and leave me interested in where it goes next. - Author2189Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0The author did a great job building atmosphere without slowing the story down, and Kael already feels like a real person instead of just a generic poor-boy protagonist. His grief, suspicion, and desperation all come through clearly, and that made his choices feel believable. The slum setting was one of the best parts. The details were vivid and grounded, especially the junk altar, the patched clothes, the dust, the metal houses, and the contrast between Kael's life and the people who profit from it. It gave the world weight right away.I also liked how the side characters were introduced. Sister Harrow, Silma, and Garrick all felt distinct and unsettling in their own way. Nobody was made cartoonishly evil, which made them more interesting. You can already feel that Kael is surrounded by people who are hiding things and using him.
- ThylinwritzRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm new on RR but I've got to say I'm fairly confident you wouldn't find such a great book this easily.
The grammar's so damn good and the writing style terrifying in the best possible way. I truly wonder how he can write so well and of course don't get me started on its style.
If im being frank it's all bangers.
Hell! Even from the start I was given chills, as I was sucked into a fictional world. Only this time I follow a protagonist who only gets more interesting. Like bro his internal conflict is so good! And not just him the other characters and their introductions well... it's like a full course buffet!
I'll go further even though I don't usually give reviews, but this is one's a must read.
Here is why...ermm..I really liked the characters as they feel so damn dangerous or say real I don't want to spoil and can't put it right but I'll still try to explain.
Simply they aren't all sunshine and roses it shows in the larger world and also to the Main character.
In fact it gives a all around cruel grueling vibe. The best way to put it is that they dont give a flip unless you give them a reason too the same way human psychology often works.
I personally like protagonists who work for what they get, and not plain out wish fulfillment. That's exactly what I got.
Damn its getting long already ill try to shorten it.. so what else em..
Oh my gosh yes the plot itself it's too peak not to glaze.
Unfortunately what I'd like to say contains too many spoilers hence ill just leave it at that
And to conclude...this well am begging everyone who reads this review to give this book a read. Its worth it.
And to the author: Don't stop uploading man. You have a found fan base in me already 🙇♂️🙇♂️🙇♂️ - 167fiveRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0To be frank, this isn't the most original story. The plot is very predictable and cliche, relying on a lot of subverted tropes to remain afloat.
However, that doesn't mean that this is a story that is enjoyable to read while turning your brain off.
The main character is a bit stupid, and is hard to relate to, but still has a personality and well fleshed out backstory. The nun chapter is probably the best, doing a great job at introducing the corrupt world while revealing Kael's beginning.
*I also have a personal gripe against the names Kael and Garrick. AI always gives out these types of names. -_-*
Overall, I enjoyed this to an extent. I wouldn't say I enjoyed it, but I didn't hate it either. Honestly, I think that with just more practice, the author could become much better. - DragonsAwayRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This seems like an interesting story! What we've seen so far makes me wonder about the world it takes place in- He walks from the orphanage to the reservoir in the mines and on the way he sees an enormous amount of steel above him. The water is horribly poisoned- downright corrosive and yet he has access to charcoal despite his poverty? Very iteresting! I'd like to find out why :)
Remarkably good grammar for a new story. - GodSaintRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Extremely talented author. Have been following his works on other apps. His world building and attention to detail are amazing. Its like stepping into the another world. You'll feel the characters frustrations, their happiness, their pain. Give it a read. This one is Dark. Like should need a warning dark. But its amazing. Darkness is what makes stories like this really hit home, really makes you feel the story and the characters. The world feels unique from what ive read. Thoughtfully planned and the system is balanced and beautifully well done. Makes you feel like your actually reading a published novel.
Keep it up adam.
Hes got 2 other works available on webnovel if you want to check them out. Same Pen name.
Okay the 200 minimum word count is really too much for me. Im not good at reviews but this one deserves it.

In this novel, (The Crack In Heaven), the sun is just an urban legend, and the air smells of factory grease and shattered dreams. The magic system, meanwhile, is quite the deal... if you’re into masochism. The “Truths” give you cool powers, but in exchange they take your most cherished memories as if they were the payment on a loan shark’s mortgage.
The story follows Kael, a teenager whose only superpower is the ability to "persist" while everyone else tries to run him over. By his side is Els, who can reset reality but still worries about whether her outfits match. But let’s talk about the true, undisputed hero who steals the show every time he twitches a mustache: Antonio (or Tonio, to friends who don’t want to get mauled).
Honestly, if I had to choose a companion to survive an apocalypse in the sewers, I’d pick Tonio without a second thought. He’s a rat-man with an enviable philosophy of life: if you’re weak, it’s because you don’t eat enough rat meat. His honesty is so brutal it’s refreshing; when he calls Kael a “baby mouse” or says he “sucks,” he’s not bullying him, he’s just making an accurate technical assessment.
Tonio is the only (furry) ray of light in this mess. He’s an indestructible force of nature who can wipe out twelve assassins in the blink of an eye and then worry because Kael is walking barefoot on the cold ground, giving him a new pair of shoes. He’s the kind of friend who saves your life and then asks you to scratch him behind the ears. Even though he’s been treated like a lab experiment by people like Garrick, he has more heart than all the priests of Kythra put together.
In conclusion, read this book for the fast-paced action and nightmarish world-building, but stick around for Antonio. If Kael is the (stressed-out) brains of the group, Tonio is the heart, the claws, and the only rat food critic worth - KosLaniakeaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I quite thoroughly enjoyed reading this web novel. Personally, I enjoyed the way you do framing with your prose, as someone who struggles to fully visualize events when reading, it was quite easy for me to follow. Character's thoughts and internal dialogue were really well paced as well. The plot was also intriguing and engaging. Can't wait to read more!
- KshyealolRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0You can notice the story is very detailed and written by a very experienced writer, very enjoyable to read and I high recommend you to read the book too! I found the character building to be very nice and unique, overall??? 5/5 stars, even more if I could give a rating higher than that
- Pain JRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It immediately sucked me in with its immersive writing. I could feel the eyes of characters, the difference between their social status and Kael, and even relate with Kael's loss. The intrigue is here from the start and it keeps making me want to read more.I cant wait to find out what's there in the mine! ^^
