Description
Jack was dying of cancer when a strange being appeared before him in a dream, granting him a new life. But nothing comes without price. If he wants to live, he must compete against others to become the champion of a self-proclaimed goddess. Taken to a new world, he must quickly learn the rules and excel, that is, if he wants to live.
This is a LITRPG/Portal fantasy.
I will update this story as often as possible. My plan is to release 3 chapters per week, with the occasional bonus chapter thrown in when I have time.
The release schedule should be Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

- UguDyLightRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is worth reading. It starts slowly then gets faster. The realism behind the MC's psyché is very intriguing. I am very eager to find what happens next.
The hiatus and the author's difficulties to write written in the 22nd record makes this a possible dead end story which is sad though. I will wait for new chapters and wish the author to go beyond his block. Time issue are understandable though.
Thanks for the story. - HNugent11Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I mostly read sci-fi and lately a few in the LitRPG genre. I can say that "the Contestant" holds my interest as well as many of the books I have read by more renowned authors. The author provides a background for those that are not familiar with the LitRPG genre. Eagerly waiting for the next chapter to see what happens with Jack and the orc chief. Keep it up!! :)
- SimlyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0First of all, I will mention this story is quite decent and deserves attention. I have read it until chapter 7, however, it is not my cup of tea as one may say. Though it isn't my reading preference, I think it still deserves a decent review.
STYLE
The writing style is good and engaging. Most descriptions are good. I don't have much else to say. It is a very good way of storytelling. I'm giving 4-stars because of the blue screens that often interrupt the story process. Don't change it tho, it's your story man :)
GRAMMAR
It is definitely a good standard, it's clear the author knows his grammar and is doing a fine job.
STORY
The story is very interesting and absorbs you at the start but later tones down the pace too much, going from 'I'm in a new world!' to just plain ole' survival in a village. As I said, it is not my type of reading preference, but it has merit of its own. I do hope it gets a bit more intriguing later.
CHARACTER
I'll be blunt here. So far, Jack is a bit boring. He's a penny-pincher but has principles. However, every other paragraph is him being happy about the exp or getting a new, random, everyday skill. Though he has his quirks, they are not all that defined. Some more character development is needed but I'm sure the author's got that covered.
All in all, the overall score is 5-stars for motivation. I really think this could be liked by many people who like this sort of light novel. Cheers and keep up the good work.
Best of luck. - Baine53Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5I hope the author is able to continue this story, it's very nice so far, though only 20 or so chapters. The 30-day time limit is interesting; the leveling system a little bland, but we've hardly seen any of it yet so that will probably change with more updates.
P.S. Don't burn yourself out trying to write! Even once or twice a week is fine - you said you were doing a MWF schedule, but that frankly doesn't seem sustainable. Any amount you give us is good! - ZZZXRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Old Review:

So, The Contestant by Nugenttw. To be fair I entered into it initially without any specific expectations. With a generic synopsis for a LitRPG novel. I can say while not perfect yet, I was very pleasantly surprised.
So our main character is transported into another world and he gets to know things and discover the world while he tries to understand his mission. Normally my biggest gripe with many LitRPGs is the how "accepting" the main characters to situations that just occur to cause them to be in that new world.
Here the way things are operated is much more logical and I felt much more satisfied with the MC's actions and thoughts knowing what he did know. Also the small glimpse we get in the prologue from the goddess' side was also very intriguing. Driving me to be more interested to reach that point of the story (Even if, at this point of writing this review, that is still far off for obvious reasons)
Grammar wise it is mostly fine, It is clear that some care was taken to make sure it is as grammatically correct as possible. However, there are still some minor grammar issues occurring. Not commonly mind you, but if I paid any attention to it I could find them. There were some minor occurrences that just didn't sound right to me, even though I checked and they should be grammatically correct. But that could be due to my own feelings which could be incorrect.
Finally, in conclusion, I want to say that I recommend this story, It is still not very far off (34~ pages of this time) but I could see improvements the further I can go, for which I will put an initial rating of a 4.5 stars, considering not only the current state but what I am expecting in the next few chapters.
At that time I will be reading further ahead and rewriting this review with more details and either a higher or lower score depending on how the story/writing progresses
Now, this story is further ahead, 132 pages as of this re-review. I will go through with my comments o - Omnis RaRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Interesting story. It has promise of being well done. Well thought out idea
- AtreivahaviRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5You can understand what I mean if you read first 5 or so chapter. The story has potential but I think it will be wasted eventually. Everything is so dull in the story. It is like everybody in the story are NPCs. I don't think it is worth to read if you want some spice in your stories.
Spoiler: Spoiler
Mc is insufferably naive and thinks like a SMOrc. He doesn't think even one step ahead. He is like "Hmm me need exp me go big kill, fast good me go big fast". There are huge holes in his personality. He is nothing like a 20 years old American because I don't think any 20 year old American can sleep in a room full of rats or eat rat and carrots eaten by rats in any circumstances unless he ain't the goddamn Bear Grylls. Don't forget he is stingy as hell too. He must be a Xianxia mc instead of American.
