- MDWRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Which is basically Stardew Valley in Chinese.
Emberstone Farm has clear inspirations in the game and from "sent to this MMO world" other works but adds novel elements. A gamer in a world of cultivators, what could go wrong?
Violet is unapologitically candid and open. We get a front-row seat into her thoughts and feelings, especially when she's fangirling about her favorite in-game characters. The story is light, Violet's shenanigans are fun to watch, especially when she is squealing inside her head.
So pick up your shovel, plow, and bucket of popcorn. Get ready for that awesome farming game energy and nostalgia, all neatly packed in a smooth LitRPG.
Style: While it uses tropes from the genre, it has Lin Meili's unique touch and point of view. Embersone Farm is a love project and it shows. A lot of time, effort, and care was put in its making, and the small details were well thought and deftly put in. THe descriptions are vivid without getting too verbose.
Story: What's there to dislike? Slow living, LitRPG, farming, portal fantasy... all the good things in one nice package. This is one of the stories I stop whatever I'm doing whenever a new chapter comes online to read. It is one of the highlights of my day when it does.
— Which leads to my only grievance. It doesn't update more often! Like once per HOUR!
Grammar: Impeccable. Word choice makes the story flow easily.
Character: Loving. Violet is fun to watch, and the support cast is very well defined. - OwlGirlRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very cute. The main character has her head a bit in the clouds and her common sense is severely lacking. The characters are not fleshed out, neither is the world building. But the story is true to what the protagonist focuses on. Snippets by other characters help with the fleshing out though.
I really like the story so far for it's calm and day to day style. It makes me feel like I am playing a farming game. - Toby ZieglerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0We see the world from Violet's perspective, thoughts and all. Violet knows nothing of this new world she's been transported into, so she's doing her best to lay low and have her version of fun; trying for a comfortable, low-key farming life.
If only nearly everything in her inventory were not unheard-of, rare, insanely valuable items she might just have succeeded.
Oh well.
Violet's straightorward view and friendly demeanor are refreshingly engaging and pull us in with cuteness and happiness dialed up somewhere around eleven.
Recommended wholeheartedly! - ClockblockerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A fun tale told from two perspectives. The MC and the inhabitants of the world.
The MC is learning the world along with you. She has insight into the game that the world is based on, but living the game and finding the disconnects is an adventure for her.
The inhabitants of the game based world are also learning new things about their world and the MC at the same time. Reading about their confusion when the MC does something new and different makes for a nice contrast to her view.
If she were a different type of player/person that they would probably try to attack or exile her.
Instead she is beloved and treasured for her attitude and helpful actions. Changing their world for the better and bringing nice products to market from her farm and activities. - Sir GreenhiltRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Soft, fluffy and Cosy. The story is a no stake, no drama and no stress. It is just a story about a girl building a farm with her staff and apprentices while very slowly exploring dating a hot dude. She knows what to do, where to go and she has everything she needs for whatever happens. This novel reads like an anti stress ball or anxiety blanket. Just a wonderful hug for the soul.
- Zoro50Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is everything I want in a low stress cozy isekai. Enjoying the slow pace of life and getting to watch the crops along with Violet. Her way of approaching everything without real concerns as all threats are quickly dealt with and we get back to cozy farming. Her apprentices are super cute and her relationship with the prince is comedy gold. Can’t wait to enjoy book 2!
- Rabid FanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I now no longer like rating stars because the end result is worth reading and I don't want it to drop ranks on my account .I liked the work so far.
This Book is fun to read and it doesn't strive to be a masterpiece , which is a shame really.
The introduction was lazy and should get rewritten to show rather then tell us about life before the game properly , much of the wonder was lost because laziness struck skipping 2 chapters worth of intro.
There was need to explain life before game world life, glossing over it by a line in passing has reduced the depth of character development. This is crucial to setting the stage further down the line.
Relationships are hard and the book is sweetly innocent in how the MC handles things. I enjoyed being dissatisfied at how trivial things are considered steps anyone could be embarrassed about.
This book hasn't gotten a heap of humour throughout rather it at the time of review was appealing because it exudes a relaxed feeling that makes you smile often instead of laugh like a maniac.
The world building was well thought out and the P.O.V. changes was masterfully done.
Format of pages was excellent , it made reading fun. A shame really I have to wait and hope this gets updated to find out what happens next. - Lila WeylandRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story delivers on its promises, and more. The cozy farming aspect is there, wholesome and fulfilling. But it also reminds me of Stardew Valley, in how it weaves other things into the story. Light touches of potential romance (subtle and well done), and foreshadowing of adventure.
Story: Overall, there is a sense of overarching plot threads that give the story a bit of mystery. The author has plans and the story isn't just meandering aimlessly. I like it. I thougth a story with just farming would get stale quickly. Lin Meili is avoiding that trap in various crafty ways.
There's ingenuity in Violet's "cheat" with her inventory, the way the world reacts to her actions and intrusions, and quite a lot of gradual, skillful worldbuilding.
There is a lot to look forward to. This story gives me the same wholesome, joyful vibe I get from playing Stardew Valley. I'm excited to read more.
Style: The first couple of chapters are a bit unpolished. Beginnings are hard. They feel a bit telling, more than showing. It evens out pretty quickly and the author finds a good flow.
Grammar: Very good, typos and small mistakes are virtually non-existent.
Character: The protagonist reacts to her predicaments in fun ways, and the side characters are memorable. A lot of humor comes from the characterizations. - dragonlord7012Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5The MC of our story is the type of person who spends hours playing a farming simulator, while looking at pictures of kittens during the 'waiting' periods. Could she perhaps spend time clearing dungeons in between farming? Sure! But not doing so makes her feel a lot more human for it.
Most people enjoy downtime, and simply enjoying life. And that is what this novel is about.
There is a flow between effort, and enjoying life, and its a very warm and fluffy combination that works well for the most part.
Style: Warm and fuzzy feelings (WAFF), and a more practical approach to a world that by definition should be a bit of a metaphysical mess. It subtly meets all the criteria for being an overpowered isekai protagonist, without placing any 'burden' on the character to be so. Instead the items they have filling their inventory makes up the bulk of their strength, while the janky mmo system they 'inherited' makes up their potential. They don't necessarily have a legendary sword, but they do have all the ingredients to make one if they wanted and worked for it. Its focus and unique approach make it remarkable endearing.
Story: The story isn't bad, but it is simple. It's held back by a lack of focus on the greater goings on, which is honestly interesting, but the MC isn't very interested in so you get trickle fed information as things continue. Story happens when life gets interrupted, planned or otherwise, but life goes fairly smoothly for the MC a lot of the times with a lack of conflict. Conflict need not necessarily be violent, but problems that require serious thought and effort to work around. Between the system, OOC knowledge, and item stashes, most problems get bypassed almost by route. That doesn't make it bad, or less enjoyable, it just feels like its missing a key ingredient that would propel it from good, to great.
Book 1 ended fairly strongly, so I'm increasing the rating here a touch artificially. At the same time, the story would definitely be lesser if it didn - JonXarnRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Is this a complicated story, with elaborate rules, people working behind the scenes to destroy the oblivious MC and make all her hard work useless?
No.
This story is exactly what it says on the box. The MC is a cute, OP, delightful lady with an inventory full of loot, playing farm with her cute apprentices, her demon chef (and his wife) and her hunky mysterious beau.
Are the denizens of this world mystified and confused by her casual OPness? Yep. Is it cute and funny? Yes.
If you’re looking for a light, fun read with a sprinkle of System based fun, then this is it. It is fluffy. It is fun, and I look forward to each updated chapter.
