Description
Important! This book is currently on hiatus due to personal reasons, I intend to finish this book along with major edits and focusing on details I want fixed, sadly, I don't have the time for that right now. I will be posting the rough drafts of the chapters I have, these will later be edited when I have the time. These major edits are also for book 2, which has a finished rough draft. The chapters I will post are very rough, and I am going to release them, so people can finish the story.Yes, book 1 and book 2 will be finished with major edits, but there is a lot going on right now in my personal life.Hello diary,These journey entries may be my last entries. The chance is great that I’m going to die soon, and along with me, all existence. My name is Eros, and I am preparing for the final fight to save the existence as we know it. Perhaps I’m getting ahead of myself. You see, my name wasn’t always Eros.
It might be best to start at the beginning, instead of the ending. My name is also Steve. Originally, I ran a bakery. I had a lot of money and my life seemed to be just perfect. That is, until my ex-wife Haley died. Things like that can turn a man sour. But not only that, I felt as if I had a secret hiding within me.
Depression hit me like a hard brick, though it seems so long ago now. A shadow man started to hunt me and things went from bad to worse. An epic journey awaited me, a journey that would not only change me, but would also change the fate of everyone I would meet during my journey. This is my journal entry that details my many adventures. I will call this entry, the chosen one, next door.
P.S. I have learned about many things by now what happened aside from my own journey. I’m adding these interludes to the diary since Clara keeps pressing me to do so. In these interludes, I will tell you a part of the journey from another person’s perspective.
New chapters are released every day.Chapter length is a minimum of 1500 words.
What to expect from this book?— You read this book as if Steve lives it, and when he is not paying attention to details, you won't get them, this goes hand in hand with his mental state.— An MC that is clearly not the hero and loves to commit violent acts— Slow but steady character development as more of the story will be unveiled with each chapter— A strong focus on the side characters and on how they are important as well— Steady power progression as characters learn more about themselves— Adapted Greek mythology that interacts with the world, and the characters— A first-person narrative, following how Steve feels about events, mostly confused and not having many answers— Many battles with either small or big monsters— Nothing is what it seems— Bad guys who are occasionally friendly enough to let the protagonist talk with each other during combat.
Important book tag explanations and when they are triggered (no spoilers)— The anti-hero lead tag is on because the protagonist, who claims to be the hero, loves to commit violent acts, murder not excluded— The gender bender tag comes into play at a later moment, mainly in chapter 96 and will continue to play a prominent role in this book— The genetically engineered tag comes into play much later on when reveals are made, but you can try to guess who is superior from the cast— The technologically engineered tag comes into play rather quickly when a certain bad guy is too revealed to have a robotic arm, no more needs to be said— The Progression tag comes into play throughput the book, as the characters learn more about themselves and spend time training, they become stronger— The time travel tag comes into play at the end of the book, what it entails, you will have to wait and read— The female lead comes into play rather late in the book, at the interlude called, meeting the ferryman, she will take her rightful place as the female lead for the series— The grimdark tag is because this book can get quite grim, and extremely violent, no worries the main characters will have fresh breathing episodes between traumatic experiences, hopefully.— Some other tags like magic, high fantasy and others talk for themselves and will be gradually entwined into the story
What to expect from me?— I will listen to feedback and continue fighting grammar— Answer any questions, unless you ask for spoilers— Never forget to release a new chapter

- ScarletSparrowRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you're reading this review and contemplating whether to start reading "The Chosen One Next Door," I'll give you a definite answer.
"The Chosen One Next Door" is a fantastic piece that delves into the supernatural, isekai, and various fantasy elements. I'm delighted to hear that this is the beginning of a long-running series.
Style: The story unfolds gradually in a lighthearted and entertaining conversational atmosphere. It's compelling and leaves readers eager to continue to the next chapter. There's a certain enchantment akin to the Loch Ness Monster in how it draws you in.
Story: I often pay close attention to how a story develops. While stories that begin with mystery and mystique are not uncommon, this book stands out as one of the best. The captivating arrangement and well-paced plot reflect the meticulous planning by the author, and it's something to look forward to.
Grammar: My standards for grammar aren't low, but it's evident that the author, Nessie, is putting in significant effort to improve. From my perspective, there are no issues worth mentioning. Hence, this 5 stas are well-deserved for your hard work, Nessie.
Characters: This is usually my focal point when reading a story. I'm concerned with the complexity of the characters and their inner workings. In this regard, MC Steve leaves me entirely satisfied. Portraying more vivid images of the characters through their interactions is definitely a smart move. Well done. - Agnes BushesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have to admit, I came here from Reviews by Supersven since I heard the guy wrote a book. I was not expecting much, as I love Fantasy books and well, I've never heard of Royal Road before.
I checked out some reviews before posting this one to see how people do it on this site.
The Grammar: I could not find any errors at all, like did this guy spent hours editing his content?
Style: It is just, dope, the fact the main character is actually not the hero has me thrilled. The name of the book is very apt, the chosen one is in the reality next door.
Story: Without going too much into spoiler territory, the fourth party member is most likely hiding a huge secret that will upset the status quo of the party. I do wonder when the other characters find out what her secret is, I think Steve might be on to something but the guy is way too much in love with her. Damn, he likes ladies, to bad he is leaving Abby in the dust.
Characters: They are all different, amazing actually, there is so much focus on side characters, they all have a different personalities, I do not mind the cursing, the booze, or the weed.
Overall: If you like fantasy books, then go on and read this, I cannot wait for more chapters! - Casey the mighty mageRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Alright, I found this site and your book after you recommended it to me on Steam, I also am looking at some other books. This is a story about a guy named Steve or Eros, I am not sure yet, the pacing is faster in the beginning but it slows down when they get to the reality next door.
I loved the style of writing, I enjoyed the layout and it made it easy to read for me, it was clear who was talking and when. I loved that you made sure to include the names multiple times for this
The grammar is great, I might have seen a few errors here and there but we are only human, since it did not bother me, and they were only miniscule I decided to give give stars
The story is interesting, the pacing seems to be all over the place at first but it gets into a good rhytm later on. There are many questions I have and it all seems to be planned instead of a cooked up in a minute story.
As for the characters, I loved the banter and the party member that got added in Brickton was a fun surprise but it moved a bit too fast for my taste. Maybe there is something behind that, there must be a reason. If there is no reason for this, I might lower my rating.
There was one thing I liked and hated at the same time, so many sockets, for one I love the consitency of using sockets but I am only thinking about sockets now. Please keep it up with the great sockets, I mean the story. - Nsimon801Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Full disclosure I would give this fiction 5/5 stars across the board, but people do not trust such ratings. So for the sake of reality, I will dock .5 stars on story and character ratings only so people accept this rating as valid. Despite the stars, I assure you this story is truly worthy of 5/5 across the board. Now, let's get into it.
Style: the first-person journal type is a breath of fresh air. The author does not pull you along with dialogue/environmental exposition so much as guide you the reader along. Instead of pouring detail and facts down your throat as a reader, the author instead guides you along, gently mixing action with facts as they paint/render the entire world before you. solid 5/5
Grammar: I found little to no errors, and considering the author's in-depth dedication to the storytelling/grammatical success of chapter per chapter, I would say any grammatical errors I overlooked would be easily squashed regardless. 5/5
Story score: this fiction is a ride. Seriously, I can type up all the praise I wish however you must read it to experience the true ride of this author's imagination. 5/5!
Character score: the first persona journal entry type of exposition, followed by the first person pov genuinely provides an authentic and unique experience for the reader! I look forward to reading more! - SuperfluffyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0You've got me hooked on the story from The Chosen One Next Door! Reading a new chapter is the highlight of my day. I'm happy to have learned that this is a pretty large series and that you have wrote in advance.
I’ve read that your goal was to confuse readers, you sure achieved that with me. It makes me very curious to read further. I guess this is one of the reasons that I’m hooked on The Reality Next Door Series.
My favorite part so far is that the frog screamed: the baby! the baby! I like that the characters have had a life before the story started. Another thing that I like is that it isn’t a slice of life book. Let’s be honest. Who is ever that lucky?
English isn't my native language but it isn’t too complicated to follow. I’ve noticed you have updated earlier chapters with new grammar, good job!
I’m wondering what you have in store in the new chapters and interludes. I have an idea but so far my experience is that you lead the reader a certain way but that you leave a lot of red herrings.
Thank you for sharing the series on Royal Road! - kris-kRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I can totally relate to the characters, I love the action, and fights, adds to depth and mystery of the story. I'm surely going to enjoy reading whenever there is plenty of time and chapters available, I'll keep reading this until the end for sure. Keep at it sven!
I wouldn't mind if the story has some hot and steamy parts too :P - mark tweinRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5i do not reading much nowdays. Im not english so i need to translate the story to understain it, but at the end im done so its all right same now...its hard but sometimes i try so im here. this is an intresting book so thanks to you to share it. i hope i will reading much more others story from you. have a good luck and a nice days.
- From_alanRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Maybe the author has a limited experience in writing and not very polished style. But this book shows a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of ideas, action, entertainment and mysteries to be revealed through reading. And cruelty in some chapters. Also an another realm and a lot of characters and their interactions. One more thing: the author really pays attention to readers' comments and is also willingly making small changes as recommended to make the book better! Thanks for this book and good luck with your project!
- RezononoRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Congratulations on writing this story. I am impressed by the work you have done.
I thought I had already given my opinion but apparently not. So here it is:
I am a big fan of fantasy stories and this one fits right in. It also reminds me of some RPG games.
The style suits me even if I sometimes have to rely on a translator. The grammar seems correct, at least for my level of English :)
What's more, the author is very present and easily answers readers' questions. Brilliant!
I have passed the information on to my friends and I know that some of them also enjoy following Steve's adventures between the two worlds. Please do the same, because the author deserves it!
Rezonono - InfinityphoenixRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5So far, the story hasn’t followed the common and well known path of what people do when going to another world. It reads more like traditional fantasy such as the Chronicles of Narnia, although not quite the same level of quality.
Style: I know the author speaks French (edit: NOT French, Dutch) as their first language, so this is with the understanding that grammar and sentence conventions might be different for their language. But the style is slightly strange. Sometimes they use commas when a sentence really should finish with a period, making the sentence flow seem weird. And they use italics for thought without putting ‘I thought’ or similar phrases after or before the italics. They also use the phrase ‘in sockets’ to describe peoples eye’s, but that’s not a thing we do in the English language. Still, it’s readable.
Story: I’m enjoying the way the story is written. This isn’t supposed to be like the many isekai stories out there. This has many unique elements to it, including the protagonist’s own past, that make the story quite different to any others here on royal road. One thing I do want to say is that I’m a little confused on what the main goal of the protagonist and his friends is. The direction of the story might need a little clarification.
Grammar: This ties in to my issue with the style. Internal thoughts shown by italics aren’t put on new lines, so the dialogue and italics are in the same paragraph, and there’s the commas instead of periods again. Spelling is perfectly fine though, from what I’ve seen.
Character: The author has gone an interesting way with their characters. The protagonist is older and the people around the protagonist are unique. He also has a strange past. My issue is that the dialogue is often too simple, and doesn’t reflect what people would really say in real life. It doesn’t sound fully natural at times. But other than that, the characters are decent.
Overall: A unique story I have yet to see on royal road. The story looks like
