- Apricity_143Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0As I said above, I was one of the few who were lucky to have early access to the novel (even before publishing) and was present during the whole process. This is my honest review:
General: the story in general is unique as it has a main character (Maximus) who leaves the lights progressively to his seven students who are going to shine later on. 5/5
Style: as most fantasy novels do, it's renaissance period with magic and multiple fantasy elements. It might look repetitive but it's different, the presence of other worlds accessible through gates (as the title suggests) which gives more diversity to the world. 5/5
Story: it revolves around the time travel of Maximus to prevent the destruction of the world. As the story progresses, Maximus himself starts to understand what and who were behind the catastrophe. The pacing is a bit slow for the first 30-40 chapters but accelerates with the story till the end. 4.5/5
Characters: are relatable, their interactions are good in general but could be better (looks like robots talking to each other at times). My favorites are Maximus, Albus, and the book of knowledge (my boy). 4.5/5
Grammar: here was the problem. Even though it is readable, the sentences are wordy and sometimes a mess. It may annoy native English speakers but others (me and MTL Chinese novels) will find it readable with no problems. 3.5-4/5
In short, it is one of those stories where you either like it or hate it (no middle). Try 20 chapters and judge it yourself.
