- BlueElkNerdRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It is still early in the story's lifespan, but despite that I am greatly enjoying what I have read thus far. The main character has aspects to his character that I don't recall seeing in main characters before, the story setup is an interesting twist on a genre classic, and the restrictions and format of the litrpg System present are a refreshingly different take.
Besides that, you can feel the author's passion for the story as you read, and while that alone isn't enough for a glowing review, combined with everything else it certainly is. - C. Sebastian NuttRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As soon as you crack open this story, whether it is the flow of the prose or the dedication to the world, you can tell that the author loves this story. If you are on the lookout for some fantasy with some more comfy tropes, then you will enjoy this piece. Highly recommend!
Style: It is hard to critique style on this cite, but I would have to say that I enjoy the writer's dedication to utilizing simple constructions in their writing. It both helps to elevate the description, while not making the pacing suffer.
Grammar: There isn't anything that I can really deduct here. Throughout the reading I didn't have any instances where the structure, prose, or word choice caused me to stumble. I believe that we can see the author's talent in writing shine through. There was a point where the author began to replace quotes for speech with hyphens, which I did find a bit strange.
Story: If I am being honest, I have no idea where this story is going to end up going. From what I read, the story itself is still in the early phases, trying to establish the rules of the world. The genre awareness that the author displays throughout the story demonstrates to me that there is a certain amount of clear direction given, and I trust that the emergent story will continue to capture my interest.
Character: At first, I didn't really know what to make of this main character. He is essentially introduced as someone able to nonchalantly cave in a college student's chest; this is before the magic system is introduced. I was a bit wary of him if I am being honest. That quickly changed and he began to grow on me faster than I might expect. It is still early days where I am at, but I think I can trust this writer to deliver strong characters. - SaberschwalzRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great premise. Love the unique approach to stats and loot. Kura is an instant star. Looking forward to seeing how far he's willing to go for success. Normally I power through the always overally sappy backstories this genre loves to open with but I was actually interested in the early chapters learn MC's story and motivations (to the author could be fleshed out a bit more on a rewrite but good enough to keep me reading).
- Sungainer5Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story blends aspects that remind me of Hunter x Hunter and Road to Mastery, with an exciting twist similar to the Hunger Games.
It showcases a powerful protagonist who encounters numerous obstacles and possesses unique skills. Themes of exploration, intriguing mysteries, and powerful creatures are prominent throughout. I'm having a great time with it!
Kai, the protagonist, embodies a sort of failed monk, complete with a tragic backstory that he overcomes through sheer determination. He exhibits a touch of social awkwardness that is seamlessly woven into the narrative, and his stat improvements positively influence his personal growth in a way that really makes me root for him.
The fusion of traits is particularly intriguing, sparking my curiosity about the potential combinations. The powers are also captivating, steering clear of the typical Void or Life and Death themes, instead delving into hydrokinesis, stars, gravity and I suspect blood manipulation.
This book introduces a wealth of fresh and fascinating concepts that I haven't encountered before, alongside some beloved tropes that define progression fantasy. For instance, the numerical representation next to achievements indicates your rank within this system integration, if you're 1 of 10, that means only ten exist which implies rarity, this concept allows you to gauge global progress against others. The first to get something also receives a top-tier reward called an Apex bonus.
I'm also eager to discover what lies beneath the cloud layer, as it seems the Earth is divided into different layers. This scenario reminds me of Dante's Inferno, where he navigates through the nine circles of hell. What could be down there??!?! I’m dying to find out!!
Now we arrive at the highlight of the story, the sentient ring or spirit treasure. She's proud and fierce, serving as a character who enriches the protagonist’s journey with a touch of humour without overshadowing the dialogue.
Although the protagonist sometimes ju - picuRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0it's still early in story development and not alot to go off of, but so far MC seems smart and methodical. the story is well-written. I typically sample the first chapter of a new story and then add it to my read later list, just so it builds up chapters, but I was drawn in from the beginning and before I realized I was all caught up on chapters and looking for more. give it a shot you won't be disappointed !
- Krakenkllr123Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0There is not enough content for me to have formed a complete opinion, but as far as I have read I am left itching for more. Intriguing MC and circumstances added to well-written and structured chapters leave me no choice but to give a glowing review as the first one to do so...
I am looking forward to further chapters. - Moogle1Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5Really been enjoying this book so far, I’m not really a big gamer but have recently become a fan of the LitRPG genre and this story hits the mark on many of the key themes.
looking forward to seeing what happens to Kai and Kura as the story progresses!
Thanks - NoTime..Royal Road★★★★ 3.5It certainly has potential and is a worthwhile read. The power system seems interesting and has a lot of room for details/explanation of how it works.
The mc overall is a bit strange for me though. I do not really know how to rate the character in this story, because the system basically stripped him of most of his core memories/personality at the start of the story. Basically a core part of his being is the principles and things he learned as a monk in a monastery but he lost all those too soon and is basically stuck rediscovering himself.
I suppose he has potential so long as he rediscovers himself in a nice to read fashion. - DreamsRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Overall, I think this is a good first attempt at writing and it's a story I'll throw on my follow list and check up on later.
However, there's still flaws that really stand in the first few chapters. The first of which is our MC constantly intuitively understands things that doesn't make logical sense from the readers side. He talks about techniques and he smashes a random arrogant man (extremely cliched event, definitely would recommend redoing this part because it's very "eye rolly") chest cavity with an open palm strike which is something that you obviously can't do in real life Earth. It's not clear whether this supposed to be a normal Earth or an Earth where they have powers and that's a problem when it's the whole intro of your story.
Our MC is rationalizing things and understanding things he doesn't have any logical explanation for understanding. Making decisions on ideas/connections he should never be able to make. If the story ever gets to trying to self publish I'd really recommend redoing a lot of how our MC acts in the intro and early chapters of the story. It really doesn't make much sense if you as a reader think about it more than superficially. A clear example for this would be when he gets his first "power/inheritance". He makes a ton of logical leaps with literally no knowledge behind them that just happen to be right. Why does he think these things are offering power? Why does he think if he touches something he'll get offered a choice between all 3? Why would he assume he could only have one rather than all 3? He's making decisions on a bunch of "rules" he's never been taught. There's multiple similar things in each of the early chapters.
On the positive side the system/powers seem somewhat interesting. Hints of world building that can be delved into. The grammar is good for a first time author, better than the average RR story. Some tense problems here and there but rare. Prose is solid, experiments with flowery language.
He is given a power tha
