- Sunny ZRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Love it! I can totally tell from the life in the main characters and the detail in the content put out that this is going to continue going strong. I think the strongest aspect of the story is the characters, and especially the relationship between the two leads.
The writing also does a good job of getting across a grungy and rich setting without any exposition dumps, and I appreciate the more novel-like style.
If I had a piece of advice for readers it would be to look past the grammar in the prologue, it’s the only chapter out of the ones that are out (at time of writing) where it detracts from the story.
Also I feel like I have to mention that this story has some of the best action sequences I’ve ever read? As in I never get lost in the descriptions of fights, and I feel like the authors have martial arts experience (or have just researched very well) because it reads so fluently.
My only piece of constructive criticism is that sometimes I get I little lost on who is speaking. But over all great story guys :) look forward to seeing how it develops. - Reccos21Royal Road★★★★ 4.0Okay, The Battler is quite the engaging tale so far, but let me get some stuff out of the way early. This story is very different from the typical story you find on Royal Road. The chapters are much longer, and the paragraphs are more similar to those of a published novel rather than a web novel. So prepare for longer segments of description, dialogue, and internal thoughts. Bear in mind that this is NOT a bad style to use at all; it's just different.
Secondly, I want to mention that the authors are from Argentina, and as far as I'm aware, the official language of Argentina is Spanish, with English probably being a close second or third. There are instances where I believe a language barrier might be present in terms of narrative storytelling (the authors seem very knowledgeable and perhaps fluent in English; there are just minor word choices and punctuation that probably vary between the two languages). I'm able to speak a little Spanish (I can understand it a lot easier), so I can see when the instances where a difference in lingual grammar is present. Once again, I want to reaffirm that these minimal differences don't detract from the story as a whole.
Okay, as the synopsis says, The Battler follows two main characters, siblings who are both well-versed in their martial arts skills. The brother, Sam, and the sister, Caroline, are both poor and earn their money through underground fights and, I'm sure, other various matters that happen behind closed doors. There is gore, there is profanity, there are visual depictions that are not exactly pleasant to visualize haha. But those qualities add to the ominous tone and circumstances that Sam and Caroline both find themselves in.
Style: As I mentioned above, this story is very different from most on Royal Road. The chapters are much longer than your average chapter, and the paragraphs are more lengthy than curt. That said... while I'm sure that will inevitably bother some readers, I didn't find myself thinking that those
