The Awakening of James Island

Description
After awakening two years earlier as a fully grown man, James Island has managed to make a life for himself in the city he found himself in. Until the day a lost young alien named Evan Goodheart appears, claiming to be on a mission sent by the gods. Despite trepidation, James finds an affinity with the lost and bewildered Evan and takes it upon himself to help him find his way; all while attempting to maintain some order in the life he's made and his construction work responsibilities. Throughout the course of the day James will come to realise his fate is entwined with Evan's as the truth of his unknown past is revealed to him.
Island Legends is a fantasy sci-fi epic set in a galaxy reeling from devastating wars, filled with countless alien species, a rich history of powerful magical forces and the interventions of many gods, dangerous spirits, and demons constantly at war.
It was originally developed over many, many years as a video game concept before evolving into a book series. So it carries some of its RPG/game origins within its narrative.

- Resigned DilettanteRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5John Donne pun aside it's a promising start for the type of story that it is is. The amnesiac being selected to save the world are both tropes with a long history, but one that has some potential depending on why the amnesia and how the world is in peril. Hard to really tell at this point.
Style: I don't know why, but this is the element that didn't work as well for me. For some reason I just felt a slight resistance to reading this in contrast to other works on this site. This may be a me problem, as my brain may have just been rewired to only seek litrps numbers go whir. Especially since I can't point out any specific reason for me not to like it. So it wasn't bad, it just wasn't a joy if that makes sense.
Grammar: I didn't spot any problems.
Story: It's kinda hard to judge yet, but it has seeds for some interesting stuff. The four years earlier stuff feels like it will either really add to things or be distracting and boring. Hard to say.
Characters: The only problem here is that the MC is the least interesting recurring. I mean, of course he is, he doesn't have any memories past 2 years ago. So his perspective on the world isn't fully formed. Fortunately the other characters make up for that. I like Evan, the perspective guy from the past, and the red monk. They all seem like interesting concepts with their own viewpoints.
