Description
Ever since childhood, Monica looked up to the heroes of her myths. So, when she discovered that she had a gift unique to her, she made a choice to become just like the heroes she once aspired to. Everyone remembered the white mask and the vigilante who wore it. They knew her as ‘the Lady in White’, whose watchful eyes made sure to keep the crimes of the country in check. But real life proved to be harsher than the stories. After a series of violent events, by those trying to imitate their hero, the reign of the superhero came to an abrupt end and everyone presumed that the Lady was dead.
A year after her death as the Lady, Monica found herself returning to the world as a normal woman once again. She was determined to lead a normal life, but how long can one keep the soul of a rebel in check? As she tries to come to terms with her mistakes, the pull to don the costume once again is stronger than ever before. Only now the world and herself ask, should the alter-ego return?

- BSartRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So I finished reading the whole book. Honestly it sometimes feels more like slice of life or if anybody knows - Kino's journey - where mc travels from place to place and it sometimes feels like each part is its own separate story only for the author to tie everything together at the end.
What I really like:
- it humanizes the mc even if she has superpowers doesn't mean she is invincible or that she can't be powerless in a lot of situations you are still human even if you have powers
- the fight isn't against some invincible person with powers that are unfathomable where our mc needs some power up to face them - which is good
I would say that it is more realistic and down to earth in that sense
- the author really planned this story out and it shows so good job on that
a bit of a warning:
- for some people it may be a bit slow paced in some parts- it didn't bother me much but I can see where other people might argue - if you are not sure this story is definitely worth while
Character
I really like the mc and how this story showed her growth and as the other person wrote slowly persuaded to pick up the mantle again. Redemption is sometimes a really hard concept to work with because it can be often misplaced.
like with superheroes where the hero is only like that because they don't want to think of a new villain and villain only keeps escaping and coming back because why not.
But I think author made it understandable by slowly unveiling her past and giving reasons why she does some things that she does. - Like if I was in her shoes, I wouldn't do some things that she does, but I understand why she does them and can emphasize.
Story
It was really well-thought-out and enjoyable although as I said previously for some people maybe a bit slow paced.
Grammar
it was good I have not much to say - there wasn't anything that would really stand out - VI.Connected.StoriesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0overall
So, I'm a little sick still and want to make my review comprehensive while not taking too much time to overblown it, I love this story. I really enjoy the MC as a non-abrasive lead character and strong female archetype that doesn't make light of or take advantage of the fact she is female.
Style and character
I enjoy the prose a lot and the setting is really well thought out with its darker themes and shady character work that really matches the cover art in what I felt was a very gritty nature to it that was well crafted in atmosphere and dialogue work from the MC and her companion that is one of my favorite characters tbh lol
Story, Grammar, and Stuff!
The only minor gripe I had which is what I'm working on and by all means is nothing wild on the author's part and is only meant so I'm not glazing them lol; I struggle with dialogue being stacked and without action words behind it making a full convo. This is again nothing major and doesn't stop the story from being a full sail take into a great superhero story
My take away
Personally, I would rank this among one of my favorite's though I really find it hard to finish books I try to take some time to come back and read this book. I cant say much more than how thoroughly the aesthetic the author is able to build with each chapter from the onset of the book.
I know I'm not very good with reviews but I want others to take the time to read this and enjoy it as much as I have even though I do not have any critiques or substance to add since it's a much higher quality than the bulk of my works combined in many cases!
I hope to see more work in the future and thanks for publishing ✌🏾
GET IN THERE MY GUY!! - MountainSkaldRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Overall:
An extremely engaging and intriguing twist on the superhero genre. The story appears to be told in the form of smaller, self-contained arcs, much like a comic, which makes for a refreshing change from the endless continuum style that characterizes Royal Road fictions (mine included.)
Style:
Overall pleasant to read. The action sequences are fast paced, fun, and clearly communicated, and I had no difficulty getting inside the head of the characters and understanding what they were thinking. There are a few jarring POV shifts, but it’s not too bad.
Grammar:
It was a bit rough in places. The prose often switches tense between past and present, and there is a lot of word repetition.
Character:
The main character is extremely compelling – a female superhero known as Arora, or the white lady. She’s kindhearted, morally well centered, and a relentless pursuer of justice. In the second story arc, she shows a lot of intuition and intelligence in figuring out the story of the ladies in the wood.
There appears to have been a violent revolt against her presence in the city. What exactly happened and why is not shared in the beginning, even though most of the supporting characters seem to know already. It feels like a shame that this was kept mysterious, as it would certainly have added to the protagonist’s character.
Story:
The story seems to flow along the lines of the classic superhero arc. The protoganist is consumed with guilt for something she did, and running to escape her past, only to be dragged in to a new conflict as soon as she sees innocents being threatened again. Except in this case there are some compelling horror elements which really set this fiction apart.
I wasn’t sure I fully understood the context of these characters and their world, but it seems that the superheros are all female, while everybody else revolts against their existence (i.e. burn the witches). It’s only hinted at, but it’s another very original take on the superhero genre that makes - LleayaaRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I read up to chapter 5 and have definitely been enjoying it. I would recommend this book to anyone who would want a fresh taste of the action superhero genre. It's definitely well written and I think the author has put a lot of care into the story.
Style
The style prioritizes the reader knowing whats happening without a doubt, as well as the reasoning behind each action. This makes it very easy for the reader to understand the direction of each characters movements as well as the overall direction of the book. The only thing I'd want to see more of is a bit more description with the action taking place.
Grammar
I've found a decent amount of grammatical errors that have made me reread sentences, it's not a huge issue but it gets slightly annoying at times. The grammar issues aren't a huge deal and they don't heavily impact the story or impair the narrative.
Story
I really enjoyed the streamline story and how it rationalizes and focuses on more than just the superhero aspect. The author has clearly put a lot of love and care in crafting the story. Only issue I found is over-explaining certain topics.
Character
I found it rather easy to get behind each characters and each of their personalities. The motives of each of the characters makes them relatable in some aspects. I've found Monica to be a great example of the type of superhero character that has a good description to their own style. - William FlattenerRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Style
The author has a strong sense of narrative style. The prose is percussive, made of a short staccato tempo that’s very effective during action scenes and lends a very noir tempo to the rest. The dialogue reminds me of the best parts of Christopher Nolan Batman movies–high-minded, gritty and full of philosophical impact. It’s a very sensory style as well, and this author often does a great job of showing rather than telling. Characters see, smell and feel things, rather than a list of declaratives, which already sets this above a lot of other fiction and gives it a very forensic style of storytelling.
Story & Character
The author writes characters well – instantly investing the reader with hints about their pasts and their goals, never giving it all away at once. Even early on, it’s clear there are some interesting character arcs to delve into.
Monica is an empowered bad*ss contending with paranormal beasts, mythical maids and other dangers. She is resilient and resolute… and when she’s caught wind of something that doesn’t add up, she can’t seem to leave it alone. She is noble and selfless–big Geralt of Rivia / Constantine / Hellboy vibes in my humble opinion.
Grammar
The grammar is strong. Good vocabulary here as well; I learned the word “tiffin.” 😁 There are some tense shifts but they may be intentional.
Overall
Between strong pacing, compelling characters, and considerable twists, I like where this story is headed. There’s a lot of lore and backstory being drip-drip-dripped out, and each chapter is very rewarding. - David GilesRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I will confess I was unable to read all the way to the end, the book is a long one and not a genre I would typically read but what I did read I enjoyed, stopping around Chapter 7 - Then and Again Part 2.
Grammar
While there are grammatical errors they're easier enough to read around without any loss of reading comprehension.
Character
The character work is meticulous with deep looks at the history and motives of characters as they emerge as well as their relationship with respect to the setting. The main character Monica (the eponymous hero Arora) is delightly empathetic and thoughtful in a way few protagonists are, with a heavy focus on redemption over punishment.
Story
The author has put a lot of work into the setting, clearly thinking it out before writing it and it shows, sometimes a little too much where the desire to describe the history of various places slows things down to a crawl, though this only happens a couple times.
I'd recommend The Arora Chronicles for its premise alone, the retired hero is a delightful trope and it's the narrative puts in the work to slowly convince Arora to pick up the mantle rather than just jumping back into it like so many other examples of that genre.
Style
The style focuses on clarity above all else, there will never be any doubt as to what's happening or why it's happening except in the more mystery focused aspects of the book (the hero trying to find out what they are, why they have powers etc). The combat is fluid and clear but a little barebones on description. - Ensii99Royal Road★★★★ 4.0Is very hard to find a good superhero book. I'd know, I am obsessed with the genre. That's because too many people make the same mistake. They focus too much on the hero, forgetting the man/ woman behind the costume.
Like worm and soon I'll be invincible, this is what Arora does well. Capping it off with a relatable set of characters and an interesting MC in Monica it's a good read for now. Imma update my review when I finish it
PS: Grammer is not the best, but readable and worth it. - morningteamarigoldRoyal Road★★★ 2.5(Review swap)
This review is based solely on my opinion of the story. You are free to disagree. :)
As can be deduced from the title, I believe that this story has potential. However, the many mistakes/errors and the writing style took away from my enjoyment of the plot. I will talk about this in more detail in the following sections. This review might come off as harsh, but I truly believe that criticism is the best way to improve. And this author definitely has potential.
Style: I believe that the writing style is the most important part of a novel. It can turn an average plot into a masterpiece but can also lessen the enjoyment of reading a novel that has a good story at its core. In this case, unfortunately, the style took away from my enjoyment. The events are described in a way that slows down the pacing of the story, even in the scenes that are supposed to be the most dynamic. The sentences are pretty simple and “bare”, causing the pictures that the author tries to paint to "lack color". The dialogue was also a bit awkward at times. My advice would be to work on the style a bit more so it wouldn't distract the reader from the plot. :)
Grammar: There are many grammatical errors/mistakes in all five chapters. They don't make the story illegible, but they lessened my enjoyment of reading because they distracted me from the plot. There were also some spelling mistakes. This, however, is something that can be fixed easily.
Story: I generally find superhero stories decently enjoyable. I like that this novel focuses on different cases that the main character solves. I have no feedback to give in this department; the story is what it promises it would be. :)
Characters: I don't have much to say about the characters because they are made secondary to the plot. I would even go as far as to say that they are serving the plot rather than driving it forward. I respect that some more insight into the characters' motives might be given further in the story, but so far, I was
