Description
Blake Thornwood never expected the apocalypse, but when it came, he was ready. In a world filled with monsters, he's doing the only thing he can: survive. That survival includes learning more about the mysterious cards the sytem is granting random people. Revelations start to pile up, and it's revealed that he has a unqiue ability among Earth's citizens. He can access the heart of the cards, drawing out their true powers.
If Blake can survive long enough, he might find out not only the origin of the system, but also his own origin. The truth, however, is something that will shake the foundations of both Blake Thornwood and the system itself.

- RaplRAPlRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I found it very interesting as it had a different view on the system where the humans only have 5 levels/ranks but monsters and cards go way higher in level and the
Idea that he was never born and he is just a card played by a challenger who gained the power of a god - varkolakRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5The premise is there, the main characters are kinda there, the grammer is good, the card based system isn't bad, but the interactions are just nonsense. It's like the reverse of a western wuxia. I get the feeling it's like if someone from a dictatorship tried to image how a democratic society would adapt to sudden fascism. Everyone but the 2 main characters act like they've been brainwashed into an NPC cult. Farmer: "You've saved my farm, please choose 2 magic items from my storage". Clerk: "Isn't it great to support the city!" Guard "I'm a guard, obey or else". A rewrite could make this into a 5* story but as is it's just a mess.
- Dusky van DoomRoyal Road★★★ 3.0I really wanted to like this novel!
The story is quite okay, the grammar acceptable and the MC well fleshed out. His goal "find my parents" is a bit thin, but I only read the first 13 cp, so that may change.
However, the world building is an absolute mess. It is apocalypse right now, first week. It's written much about the disasters that are hitting all over the world. But than, there suddenly pops up a magic city. Okay, magic, fine with me. However inside the city everything is already in perfect order, new rules and regulations are in place and soldiers to ensure the law is upheld. No one had more than a week time to get used to the system, the whole world is on fire and the lady in the news talks about the weather for today...really?
Also the power levels are crooked. Still first week, MC and friend just got their first -hard to aquire - cards the day before, but there is a lvl 3 with 15+ cards and two system-tests mastered? How???
I could go on like this, but I think this gives enough insights for a review.
It really is a pity, the story and especially the great system have so much potential... I really hope author-chan gives this a rework at some point. I would love to read more, if everything becomes a bit more believable. - Shiny RainbowUmbreonRoyal Road★★★ 3.0This story honestly feel liks it could be a 5/5 if you fixed two glaring issues.
Issue 1 is the worldbuilding, it's super nonsensical and very poorly defined. The system for leveling up making no sense is the biggest onefor me, unless i've missed something, it's completely arbitrary and means nothing to achieve the "requirements" to level up, as it's completely up to one of the 7 city lords and they can just make you max rank if they feel like it and there is no way outside of that to rank up.
Issue 2 is character motivation and human behavior, people act and do things that make absolutely no sense constantly. More than once i've been left completely baffled and confused why this or that character did something, which isn't good, especially when it's the MC.
It honestly feels really good besides that though, the fight scenes are fantastic, the dialog is very nice when the characters aren't doing bizarre stuff, and the power system feels super interesting and cool, but super poorly explained or fleshed out.
