- AltoventureRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Apocalypse Cleaners is a post-apocalyptic fantasy tale of two once humans faced with fixing a broken world. The story so far is amazing in delivery, characterization, and polish. Highly recommended.
Style: Very strong. The flow is smooth and I found myself finishing chapters sooner than I’d thought because of how pleasant this prose is to read. The pacing is also great, managing small time skips without losing the reader.
Story: The story begins with an interesting premise that gives the reader just what they need to continue on. I think the first chapter after the prologue is extremely well done and is a perfect introduction to both characters. The overarching plot is introduced early, although there is enough ambiguity and subtext to allow the reader to use their imagination.
Grammar: Excellent. Aside from one or two overly long sentences, the author has delivered a flawless execution of this story which only feeds into how well it reads.
Character(s): How the author managed it exactly escapes me, but I love how the devil character is portrayed in a way that cannot be described as anything other than charming. With devil stealing the show it almost overshadows the angel at his side, but the partnership between them is set up well. - InyssaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0And I just got done reading Good Omens so if I had a nickel for every story that yadda yadda you get the point. Anyway, this was a surprisingly entertaining and sometimes even hilarious read. You have an angel and a demon (who apparently used to be a normal man) teaming up under orders from God to save a dying world. A simple but instantly captivating hook.
Characters: Our two protagonists are perfect companions and foils to one another both at once, yet not as one would expect. It's not good vs evil or selfishness vs selflessness (even if some of that is present) but simply two very different people being forced to work together. Their interactions are funny, adorable and sometimes very heart-wrenching depending on the situation, as they're thrown into this difficult job and must grow together as a team during the course of the story.
Style: The prose is what it needs to be, nothing more, nothing less. It's very much a character and worldbuilding-led story, so the prose is very much to the point and is there to facilitate the character interactions and strange reveals about the world itself.
Grammar: Mostly flawless from the six chapters I've read, although there were some odd turns of phrase and word choices, maybe a second look-over by a beta-tester would help, but overall it's very good.
Story: Besides the really good character interactions, it's the constant turns and reveals regarding the strange world they're in and the mission they've been forced on that keeps one reading, constantly wondering what will happen next. It's hard to do that with world-building alone, but the author succeeds and more in that regard. As fascinating a world as it is ruthless.
Overall this is a very interesting fantasy read so far, and I would recommend anyone who likes good worldbuilding and great character interactions to give it a go. - Mike71414Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: Pretty standard for RR I think, relatively simple sentences that are good for understanding quickly and following the story. Dialogue, punctuation, quotes, etc. are all up to par with what I expect and don't take me out of the story which is always good.
Story: Cool story so far! I think the part where the main "find the God particle" plot is introduced could maybe use some more setting up. Maybe either work in more emotional connection from the MC or connect it somehow to the "Cleaner" role referenced in the title.
Grammar: Again, no issues that I noticed really. With grammar I always just don't want to be noticing things that take me out of the story, and that didn't happen at all so great job!
Characters: I like them! I think angel/devil pairing is always fun and has the potential for lots of cool hijinks and adventures and getting to know each other as the story develops. One thing that could use work maybe is the first chapter, the MC POV felt a little bit confusing perhaps at first with the loss of memory stuff and him not really knowing what's going on. I'm excited to see how the characters develop, and to see others in the world!
Keep up the great work :) - TimWLong50Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a post-apocalyptic story about a group of characters navigating a dystopian landscape. The story focuses on the protagonists, with a devil and angle vibe, think Good Omens for an immediate cultural reference, but it's a casting that works for a reason. The main characters are well imagined and written with their otherworldly appearance. They also have a good mix of humor mixed in with the more serious moments.
The book explores themes of survival, responsibility, and the struggle between good and evil. It looks at how the characters deal with their powers and the consequences of their actions. The relationship between the devil and Anten is important, showing their growth and support for each other as they face challenges.
The writing is great. Good tension and suspenseful atmosphere exists throughout the tale. There were a couple of small grammar mistakes, but they were easily overlooked in the midst of such an intriguing narrative.
The dialogue is natural and helps to develop the characters and their relationships, with a good balance of humor and seriousness. The unique creatures and supernatural elements make the story interesting and keep readers engaged.
Overall, this is a fantastic mix of action, adventure, and speculative fiction. The characters are well-developed, and their relationships add depth to the story. Recommended. - UgarrsvenothRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The author has done a good job at dropping us straight into the premise of the story. An angel and a devil are trying to save the world. The duo protagonists are a fun pairing that works well together without immediately being overpowered characters.
The way the devil realised he wasn't human was also incredibly well done.
Keep up the good work. - TheJournalistRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5As the title said, the premise of this story is very interesting. A duo of an angel of a devil, both of which are interesting in their own right, in a mission to save a post apocalyptic world. The title couldn't be any more fitting taking into consideration.
Now, the style of the story is very dialogue heavy which works well because the dichotomy of the characters drives it in intriguing angles. However, I would advise the author to maybe dial it down, a tiny bit. The world is very interesting and I've been wanting to learn more about it, just from a more clearer lens, not one that is dominated by the duo's dynamic, as engaging as it was.
I assume that the grammar is great because throughout my long read it hasn't broken my immersion, and that's mostly my only criteria for judging. Good work on that.
Now, the main character, he's an intriguing puzzle. He starts out the story without any memories, until the angel informs him of their mission, and to me that looks a treasure trove of possibilities. The story has the potential to tap into some very captivating plot points, and I am looking forward to reading more about them.
Overall, I would recommend giving it a try! - LolloMarencRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I'm still not that far into the story, but so far it's really catchy and great! If you're a fan of post apocalpytic stories, adventure, and psychology you should give this a try! The prologue caught my eye right from the start, and the protagonists duality is really interesting. Maybe it's because I'm also a fan of Fujimoto, but I love seeing stories inspired by mythologies but especially stories that take time into exploring the characters' feelings.
Overall, it's great! - Odi ErisRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I would like to preface my review by saying that I'm honestly intrigued with how the story is going so far. I believe that down the line, the issues I'm about to point out are more or less fixed. But as of the chapter I currently finished (Chapter VII), here are my thoughts on the story:
Grammar - 5/5
Nothing to say other than it's pretty perfect. I didn't notice any glaring tense shifting nor major errors. I didn't even see any typos. The range of vocabulary is nice for this type of story.
Story - 4/5
I like the premise of the "Source" being scattered into different properties. It kind of reminds me of Dragon Ball but with more stakes (which is definitely a plus). The twists and turns of the story is nice as well. I really like the implication of their decision to save a certain character consequently causing a certain chaotic event. Conflicts are piling on top of each other but I do think that it can go a bit too fast at times.
Character - 4/5
The MC kind of reminds me of an Isekai main character. Take that as good or bad, depending on your personal preference but that's the impression I get. It's kind of hard for me to understand his character when he switches his tone more often than not. But the biggest upside of him is how he's handling the people's view on him as a Devil. I think it's very intriguing to have an MC that both doesn't care about how others label him but care about how others get to know him. It's an interesting contradiction. At the same time, I think it may be enhanced if the MC also secretly likes to be praised by other people so that when his Devil side inevitably ends up costing him his reputation, it'll be extra devastating. I also like Angel because I just have this attachment to righteous (albeit sometimes self-righteous) characters who's willing to throw away logic for the sake of their morality. It's pretty neat, paired with Devil's more "logical" side, I guess.
Style - 3.5/5
In terms of the actual narration, I don't seem to have any pr
