- Luci ReapsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0it is a very refreshing read in what is otherwise a genre filled with stereotypes and ridiculous power fantasies, with a focus on characters and their interactions with the world and each other. it is also good representation of an otherwise neglected and out right ridiculed portion of the population especially in genre. give it a shot
- Mr Alex666Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's quite early for the main story to kick in - so far, the MC and a lot of other folks got mass-isekaied, and the MC mostly experiments with magical tinkering. Exactly two monsters were slain so far.
However, it does look like, it has potential.
Story: so far it doesn't look like a murderhobo-story, but much more like one of the crafter ones. Nothing wrong with that, but maybe you should emphasize that line in the blurb, if you want to go down that road further. I don't have a problem with crafter stories, but those, who are looking for a bloody apocalypse maybe feel misdirected. The story's flow is quite slow, and while I don't have a problem with that either, there are readers, who would want a faster pace. I'll go with a 5, since I don't see any problems so far.
Style: easy to read and captivating enough that I "accidentally" read more, than agreed upon for the swap. There was clearly much effort put into it
Grammar: While the basics are good (don't ask me about commas, Grammarly does that for me), I noticed quite a few typos. Not many, but there are a few. I will go with a 4,5
Characters: so far we haven't met many people outside of the MC - and most of them have only a few lines. They don't have much background, description, or depth, even the MC's new friends. The two tries on the a-holes (the manager and the ratcatcher-politician) were a little bit too much (even with nepotism, the manager would have been put in a position, where couldn't make damage, and how direct the politician was, I wonder, why anyone is willing to follow him), or the MC herself is an a-hole. The MC herself is... asocial, a bit of an idiot, and certainly rude. So far her bad qualities don't distract from the story, but it is certainly a weak point.
In total, I will go with a 5, the story so far was entertaining enough and there was clearly effort afforded. - JahxRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Familiar premise, executed well. It could definitely use a little more proofreading, or perhaps the application of Grammarly, although we've all been betrayed by that program before. What grammatical errors there were, I was able to fill in from context, and didn't detract from the experience overall.
Initially wondered why there was an inclusion of pronouns because honestly when the shit hits the fan scenario kicks off, no one gives a single solitary fuck about how someone identifies. Once it was revealed that the character is trans that mystery became clear.
I'm interested to see where the author takes this world, and this system, I have followed, and will continue reading. - W.Z. LeeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Like many isekais, The Apocalypse Bites starts off on Earth in order to establish who the MC is in the regular world. But unlike many isekais, it does not rely on the usual tropes. Instead, StarThief creates an Earth that feels lived in and uses realistic scenes to establish the character.
While the MC is an introvert, she is by no means the depressing loner archetype. She is quite likable and the POV voice is enjoyable to read. She is also smart, rational, competent, and understands how RPGs work. All this makes her early power-up feel earned.
The depth of characterization also makes the selection of Class, Skills, and Weapons so much more realistic and believable. Unlike some other stories, for which skill descriptions sound like dry math problems and the characters just pick the most OP ones, because of “battle fanatic” reasons.
The synopsis, as of now, is somewhat light on what flavor of LitRPG this story is. I don’t think I’m spoiling anything to say that it leans more into exploration of skills and crafting with an eye towards survival. So it’s less about maximizing physical or magical attributes to become as lethal as possible. Naturally, this makes the story more about being in a party rather than being so OP that the MC can solo-kill everything.
The author does know the grammar rules, so no real issues in that area. However, the author could benefit from a closer eye to spelling errors that cause the wrong word to be used. - sirus_baineRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Its been good so far im really enjoying its going at a pretty good pace and i like how she's figuring everything out and its not all handed to her right form the get go so yeah ill keep up with the story
P.s. author i think you're doing great keep it up 👍 - Five6212Royal Road★★★★ 4.0This story reminds me of SAO, in a good way. It is wonderfully written and we get to follow the main character, Devi in her train of thoughts, helping us understand her character better.
The style of the story is done well, there are some run on sentences but they won’t matter as much when you’re fully immersed in the story, and trust me you will... the prose on display makes for a long story filled with adventure and action, oh and let’s not forget the thrills. Enjoyable read for sure.
The characters are written well, we’ve not seen much of them yet, but the few we’ve seen all have different personalities from each other, which is a very good thing, oh and let’s not forget the floating blue character screen, nice touch to help immerse readers further in the story.
So, if you’ve clicked this novel to read, and you’re scrolling through reviews to know if you should stay, I’m here to tell you that you should, you’ll enjoy it, the author is making sure of that. - Non Sequitur the EquitaurRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The main character Devi starts on Earth, then goes to another planet, goes through character creation, and then encounters enemies and acquires magical items. A fairly basic story.
However, the details are all done well, with excellent descriptions. The crunchiness factor is high. After a few days, she gets a magic item with +25 Int, +25 Wis, +15 Free, +15% Int, +15% Wis. Which is fine for the context of a progression story. - AannddiiRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I like the first few chapters it was nice and refreshing the way the characters choose their class is great background characters feel nonexistent but that doesn't change the fact that this might be a good story depending on the amount of chapters release this might be something for you person reading this but this story feels like it's missing something it feels a bit background less like the main character is walking in a void a simulation that is missing all details I still think it's good
- KindreadzRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Only read 11 chapters so far and finding it quite good. The main character isn't op at this point. Neither her or the current characters around her really understand the system as at don't give any hint on how stats, skills or experience work in any way so they have to figure it out by themselves. The system doesn't hold their hand and explain that vit increases hp or that choosing something like fire magic will make you use spells like firebolt and automatically gives you the knowledge how you use or cast the spells. Or choosing an archer class gives you an understanding on how to use a bow and arrow from the get-go
