- CrazyMinerGuyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great book that is very well-written. It goes through the process of John going through and creating a bookstore to sell books in return for interesting story. It also describes how John sees understands and learns more about humanity (and other species) that inhabit the world he is in.
The writing is good, with little to no errors. The pacing is great! And John's reactions and musing on various thing are very intriguing! - dtracersRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A beautiful story. It's like a slice of lives.
View the world from the perspective of an outsider. A good short read that makes you think but also let's you relax.
You get attached to well written characters but they also leave just as quickly.
You feel like you lived a lifetime while only living a couple days.
Really enjoyed it and I just made the word count.
Leave a story at the end of you loved the book - racxinRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story gave me a lot of exitement and dread after reading. Even some existential crisis. But over all such a great book. I would love to read more books from you and if i can would try to give you chicken nuggets not now though maybe in the future.
- worryinglyIntoIsekaiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a relatively sedately-paced slice of life about an eldritch being named John who runs a bookstore in a fantasy world in a town that mostly has humans in it and he trades books for stories. It's engaging but not particularly innovative.
A solid work that feels slightly low stakes so it's a very relaxed read. - James BailyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So far so good. Not very much written. Interesting premis. Kinda reminds me of "I'm really not the demon god's lackey" but not really. So far it's just 3 chapters. Main character is aloof...? so far. MAIN CHARACTER CAN SIT!!! HE HAS LEGS!!!
Edit: It is now complete. I highly recommend. - PurpleMagiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0From the moment that I read the description of this fiction, I knew I would like this book. It is a delightful tale of an unimaginably powerful being following their whims. Their whims being receiving fun stories in exchange for distributing books. As a story addict myself, I think my actions would mirror John's, were I in his situation. Loved the book, would definitely buy a paperback if it ever became available.
- SilverSpiritRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Nice slice of life for the friendly neighborhood eldritch monster who learns about the world he currently resides in through various customer encounters of his bookstore. Nice story to slow down with.
I liked the fact that it didn't follow the customers and change to their pov unlike a few bookstore stories I've read. Didn't force the MC to get involved into customer lives outside his space because of this. Just him, his bookstore, & his random thoughts on what he thinks he learned that day.
I wouldn't mind a random ch every month or so just to read what John may or may not have understood from his newest customer. If ever feel froggy or encounter something yourself & go "hmm 🤔.. what would our friend John think of this" feel free to rando add to his encounters .. 🤭 - TheMageKingRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is relatively short for much of what I’ve been reading lately, but it still says a lot. There’s lots more to the world that we never see; John may be able to see everything across an entire planet, but his ability to understand is more limited. We see hints of larger stories, tales of other possibilities. John grapples with some interesting philosophical questions.
I think many of the story’s flaws in my view, like the lack of “lore” as to why, say, a potion does this, or where John’s people are from or even what he looks like, are intended reflections of John’s perspective. Definitely a fun, light read. Hopefully the ending isn’t implying John’s next destructive spree. - aFallingFridgeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A refreshing short story from the viewpoint of an inhuman character, which the author manages to write convincingly well with it's mannerisms and thoughts.
The world building is broad for a short story, and honestly if this was continued at all, I'd love to see what the author could create.
Overall, a great little binge read that I will likely come back to again in the future. - anythingcreatureRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This book shows an interesting perspective on a fantasy world from the perspective of a bookkeeper. It is a gentle and cosy read but keeps you engaged. The pacing was done very well balancing moments of interest, conflict, and connection. Overall, I’d recommend reading it even if it isn’t your type of book as it is easy and short enough to read and move on while still enjoying it.
